  1. Now we just need to hope he can stay healthy and get back to his form before the injury.
  2. If they keep him down for like 2 weeks or less it gets another year of control. So I have to disagree it's not about money it's years of control. Besides he is not ready.
  3. Even if Gordon is ready, keep him down long enough to earn an extra year of team control. I would also not even think about starting Gordon right now. He has not earned it & the chance of ruining him is not worth the risk. Let him earn the promotion to AAA first.
  4. Comparing a pitcher to a hitter are not the same. A pitcher needs to get his work in to get in his work. They also should have had an option for like $15M for 2019.
  5. Hope this doesn't turn out like when the Twins signed Kendrys Morales. The biggest questions will be what has he been doing since pitchers & catchers reported? Is he behind & will he be ready for opening day without much of any Spring Training?
  6. I'm pretty sure it's the 75th pick in the draft. Twins got a competitive balance round B pick. The Tinws would give up their 3rd highest pick.
  7. Anyone else notice Neil Walker can't find a team? Just saying demand is not that great for 2nd base. I know Walker is not equal to Dozier but just proves they could find a cheap alternative some where next year if Dozier demands the world in a contract.
  8. I have no problem with the lowball offer. The agents overplayed their hands & most likely passed on good deals back in December. I love it that is called collusion when teams finally figure out it's not smart to spend like drunken sailors on leave. This is gonna be really ugly when the collective bargaining agreement is up. With all the teams tanking t rebuild.
  9. I would be a little afraid signing any of the 3 top pitchers. Nobody has any clue what they have done since pitchers & catchers reported. They may be behind and not ready to start or worse yet be likely to over due it and cause an injury. Just remember how good it worked out when the Twins signed Kendrys Morales. No spring training and never found his old form.
  10. Just remember what happened when the Twins signed Mauer to an extension before he was eligible to become a free agent. If he has a good year, offer him the QO first & then talk about a possible 3-4 year contract. Or fall back on your in-house options that may make sense in the long term.
  11. Then once he realizes how messed up the market is here he will be open to playing overseas to make some cash. Also, it is the best way to build some value since I can't see him getting regular AB's on any team.
  12. I'm sure many teams would be in for the right price...
  13. Vargas to Korea or Japan. The Twins will sit him down and ask him if he would be open to going overseas to get some actual playing time. This way he could make a return to MLB with some confidence since he could get normal AB's in either Korea or Japan. Not sure which season would start sooner to be a quicker/better fit for him.
  14. Give me one of the following Logan Morrison, Mark Reynolds or Corey Dickerson. Or if you want to gamble sign Jose Bautista. I have always liked Vargas. It just seems like he has never got a fair chance to evolve into the great hitter he could become. His best bet might be going to Korea or Japan and make some big money while he can.
  15. Charlie Morton might be a better target. Thin he may only be signed for 1 more year.
  16. I wonder if Boston is regretting the David Price contract? 7 years $217M ouch. There should never be a team giving any pitcher over 30 a deal longer than 5 years tops. Sad part teams will over pay and get burned in the last 2 years if not more.
  17. You can't overpay for someone who doesn't want to come here. Up to $150M. Not sure the terms since they are not public yet.
  18. Why hasn't anyone brought up making a trade with Houston for a starting pitcher? Once they traded for Gerrit Cole they have 7 starting pitchers on their team. I would expect Charlie Morton & Collin McHugh would be available. Neither top tier but would not cost much in terms of prospects. As well Houston would be open to a trade to replenish prospects after making the Cole & Verlander trades.
  19. If they want to cut down time of games start with the time between innings. But that would cost them advertising money so they would not want to do that. On the same note, when they make a pitching change they need to speed that time up so no need for another commercial break.
  20. I want no part of Darvish. He will be 32 in August & sounds like the contract is going to $150M at least. It doesn't seem wise to go 5-6 years for a pitcher his age.
  21. The best part of signing Reed is that if the Twins fall out of playoff contention they have a valuable asset that they can flip for some nice prospects.
  22. I would figure Buddy Boshers will be the first removed from the 40 man roster. After that you can go to Gabriel Moya, Aaron Slegers, & Tyler Kinley. To be honest could just as well make Tyler Kinley the first sacrificial lamb cut from the roster. Why waste a roster spot on a rule 5 pitcher.
