    It should also be noted that Pohlad unambiguously said, on the Inside Twins show a couple weeks ago, that yes the Twins could afford to sign/keep both Buxton and Berrios. Maybe the pandemic has put him in a reflective mind and given him a case of the "can't take it with you"

    I think what we are looking for, is a statement from someone before Wheeler made his decision. Not an after-signing comment from a press conference where both parties say all kinds of things like "never a doubt" and "always wanted to play here". Given equal offers and recruitment efforts, it's more than likely and more than fair to think Wheeler would have signed with the Twins coming off a 100-win season, instead of the .500 Phillies. (with apologies to the poster above who requested we not fight these old battles here)

    My preference is Options 1 or 2. I think they are capable of Option 1, but that Option 2 is most likely, and both will generate some real optimism again next spring. If they do decide on Option 3, which means trading Buxton/Berrios, then I don’t see why they wouldn’t trade Donaldson and Maeda as well. Option 3 sounds fine as a discussion exercise on a Twins fan website, but I would expect it to look pretty grim if it plays out in real life.

    I think it would just be really interesting to go back, two years ago, and see if people were describing the offense as a one-year wonder. If anyone was, I was. Yet the offense is at least average or well above average in all the standard statistics this year. Are they too old? I don't know how anyone can claim that if they really take a look. It's the pitching, they need two additional starters and two additional relievers, and if they get 3 of 4 of those, plus a better start to the season (no bad blown saves), they will be right back up to 90+ wins. But yeah they need to get that part right.

    I don't hear the television broadcast much, but I really like how Bremer blamed the runs in the third inning on the ballboy not getting out of the way of the Jake Rogers double. For the Twins today, it all went downhill from there, probably.

    Pohlad said unequivocally on the Sunday Twins show that yes absolutely the Twins were in a position to extend or sign Berrios and Buxton and keep them around after 2022. @Tim @insagt1 My two cents: i think the painful decision would be trading one of Polanco or Arraez (though various posters here make a good case that Arraez might be suitable at third base). I think the painful painful painful decision would be to part with Larnach or Kirilloff for a solid controllable pitcher. What do people think of that?

    I liked the All Star game. The players are really into. Apparently Ohtani dressed and left the park after he came out of the game. I have no problem with that and it didn't sound like the players did either. (per radio). These guys need some rest as well. But I also heard the players weren't keen on other players taking the game off just because. No one really wants to see Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson, do they? Twins fans maybe. I also liked the hot mikes during live action. A really good way to put the players center stage and present the game in a different way before the second half gets underway.
