Maeda has come out of at least a few starts looking completely gassed to me. My guess? his early season struggles wore him down mentally and he's a bit out of shape? An extra day of rest could help with that. Since a week-long rest at the All Star break, Maeda has had 4 days, 4 days, 6 days, 4 days, 5 days, and now 6 more days rest leading up to Saturday's start.

I feel like we say that every year.

I will have to build a similar study for pitchers so that Gio Gonzalez qualifies and then I will tag you then.

This comment made me think. In stadiums, a player hits a home run and you can see where the ball lands, and get an idea of the distance that way. At that park, you hit it over the fence but you lose track of its flight, and you just assume it landed in the corn somewhere. Not sure where. The ball just kind of disappears. A little bit of poetry to that, I'd say.

It’s a side discussion, but I completely agree. For roughly the same price as a Perez/Pineda combo, or Pineda/Bailey/Hill, or Happ/Shoemaker, the Twins could have had Darvish + another pre-arb pitcher making the minimum. For the same price. “Shoemaker’s contract is cheap, this is a no risk signing, because the Twins can just drop him if he doesn’t pan out” we see some version of that argument every year (no offense to any specific Twins fans out there!)

As it relates to Ober, I do agree with you. I don’t know about the data on his pitches but he has command and poise and takes the mound like he has a job to do.

Maybe so, but I bet from the earliest planning stages the two teams were always going to be the White Sox and Yankees. Maybe Cubs, but probably Yankees. The story it was based on is about the White Sox, and the Yankees are... the Yankees.
