It's a little of both (or a lot of both, in this case). The players collapsed by themselves just fine in late July, but a trade for a starter a little but sooner (Garcia?) would have preceded the collapse.

Another game, another strikeout looking by Castro where he turns and whines to the umpire. He does this regularly and it's just bizarre, immature behavior for a catcher in particular. You could hear Gladden say "that's a good call" off mike after Castro struck out in the 7th last night.
True, but Tyler Wells strikes me as a good comp to James Kaprielian, an over aged low minors guy who strikes guys out but can't stay healthy. Kaprielian is the only arm New York gave up in the deal. I wonder if Wells and then Gordon would have been the basis of a trade. I wonder if the Twins even talked to Oakland.
