  1. All fair points, I think it's just so predictable. Instead of signing the best FA out there, or making an intriguing trade, or developing your own relievers, go out and sign an old journeyman for close to minimum. Predictable and typical. That said, I am beginning to like this signing a little more. There is nothing preventing a trade and we actually have a few young guys now who have shown MLB success and might develop into something (different from how we projected Burdi and Chargois). Rodney's work is a high wire act though. It might work, but it will be adventurous.
  2. I was not aware of that. ..... which probably means he's shooting the arrow to heaven.... so i guess never mind any personal criticisms of him I posted
  3. I'm with you. Close call, but I would prefer Cole to Darvish in this situation. Gordon is a tough guy to part with, but Granite and Jay are not hard to replace. Also, making a deal for both Cole and Darvish is not against the rules.
  4. I honestly feel like something big is going to happen.... (it almost has to)
  5. i have to back up the opinion of the other poster. Castro's 720 OPS seems ok but it's context neutral and also below average for catchers in 2017 (or at least below median for catchers with a high number of plate appearances) When at bats mattered, Castro was terrible. Especially as the season wore on. Maybe he will do better in 2018.
  6. It's starting to feel like this is going to happen. Would be great if it did, or, one of the other big targets would be good too, but Darvish would be ideal.
  7. To get an idea of Rodney's market value, I looked at Kintzler's contract, and Kintzler signed for twice as much, twice as long, to carry a lighter load.
  8. Agree. I've been excited about their coaching and executive hires and other things, but they need pitchers. Good ones. Josh Kalk is not permitted to actually go out and throw the pitches for these guys.
  9. You'll find a lot more uncritical praise than unwarranted criticism here with this move!
  10. Call me a skeptic. Maybe Pineda can come out of the pen late in 2018. He throws hard but been mediocre as a starter.
  11. Nice to see you show Sano some respect, finally. However, you could argue that the above-average dependability of Longoria is preferable to the unpredictability and highs and lows of having Sano around, much as I'm in his corner and hope he gets straightened out.
  12. Archer and Longoria for Gonsalves and Sano. Who says no? (Besides Tampa, of course)
  13. Gordon is near-MLB ready and plays a premium position. Very agonizing to part with a guy like that!
  14. Wow, rumor of a solid proposal. I would do that trade.
  15. Speaking of the 5% percent Fangraphs probability, it's possible to go back and look at what the probability was on a daily basis, instead of just assuming it was a constant number for the whole period leading up to the deadline. Not sure how that number is calculated, nor much interested in it, but I will assume it was dependent on whether the Twins won or lost that day.
  16. Just so you know, neither of those guys has played an inning of even A ball. That's quite the projection.
  17. See I would have them flipped. Catcher guy interests me but I'm not interested in an outfielder with zero power and can't field. Can't possibly be ahead of Rooker. Rooker was mashing.
  18. Completely turn it around? The way I see it, the Twins were in first place in mid June and several games over .500 at various points in early July.
  19. I respect that people disagree, but all I said was that the Twins schedule was about to get easier. What I hear you (and others) saying is that Falvey did not have the judgment to forsee this.
