  1. It’s not hard to imagine that the Yankees called the Twins inquiring about Simmons, and that would be enough to call it “interest.” Still, the response from the Twins should have been: DoneDeal! He’syoursNoBacksies TooBadSoSad *click*
  2. I don’t think it’s an AL Central problem. If the Twins has pulled their weight and won 90+ games, the Central would have looked like several other divisions this season. So that’s why I say it’s a Twins problem, not a Central problem. As far as the possibility of the White Sox being swept and having this be the fourth consecutive season where the AL Central winner has been swept out of the first round? First, other teams are allowed to be good. But secondly, yeah, that’s a bad look. The Twins have played a big part in that streak. Three different AL Central teams represented the American League in the World Series for 4 out of 5 years recently, from 2012 to 2016. So that tells me that a good team or mid-market team from the Central division can compete just fine.
  3. I was surprised to hear the Red Sox actually had a Rule 5 guy on their roster all year. So any in the final 10 maybe have room as well (and I’m betting are still checking the waiver wire).
  4. The 1993 San Francisco Giants won 103 games and missed the playoffs. (It was the year right before the realignment / wild card era, and as it happens, the year before the strike)
  5. Colina had a non-TJ elbow injury way back in spring. Obviously I have no idea what the recovery prognosis would have been. It sounds to me like they weren’t expecting Colina to pick up a baseball at all in 2021. I hate to think that Shaun Anderson was acquired in response to Colina going down, but we don’t know the timelines. Right here and right now, it’s probably not a big deal to waive Colina. Just my two cents. Best of luck to him in his recovery.
  6. @chpettit19it was honest mistake. Please don’t go away. The “one move ahead” was actually directed more towards the front office.
  7. @Brock Beauchamp This is the exchange I was referring to: Yes. In what world would it not be in their best interest to have Celestino develop into a starting center fielder? Having 2 starting CFers is better than having 1. Having 3 is better than having 2. It is always in a team, and their fan's, best interest to have more talent than less. Expand to see full exchange. An honest mistake, some might say.
  8. If Celestino becomes the starting center fielder, in say 2023, then that means Buxton is gone. If I’m reading the room correctly, people won’t be too thrilled if that’s the case. It just feels like there’s a failure to think more than one move ahead sometimes before clicking the REPLY button. I apologize for not being more clear and if that sounds too harsh. As far as Alcala, yeah I like him. Said it during the season even when he was struggling with all the other relievers. Still would rather have had Pressly for 2019.
  9. So what is your timeline for this desired outcome? To begin the 2023 season? Please tell Anyone who smashed LOVE on your comment is welcome to respond as well. One of the points I am trying to make is that light-hitting backup centerfielders can be found, I assume, for a lot less than an established All Star relief pitcher.
  10. My view of the 2019 ALDS was that the series was over after the 3rd inning of Game 2 (when they fell behind 7-0). So, 4 runs in 12 innings isn't that bad, to be honest.
  11. I think this is an underrated comment. Is it really in the best interest of Twins fans for Celestino to develop into a starting center fielder? If not, then you are left to evaluate the trade as Pressly for Alcala.
  12. I was raised as a Duck Duck Grey Duck child. Be very careful with our kind!
  13. Is that supposed to be some non-phonetic spelling of The Duff? I think this is the more compelling question. Kind of like how you see the word boogieman spelled out as “bogeyman” — in an attempt to terrorize golfers, apparently.
  14. A solemn occasion indeed
  15. He’s gonna retire after watching the playoffs on TV? lol
  16. MVPs, all of you! may this be yours again, some day
  17. I am trying to imagine what Falvey or Levine would think, hearing that they are given an A+ grade after a year like this.
  18. Berrios was my favorite Twin by far but I don’t have much hope for him tonight. The Yankees are too hot right now. Stanton is in a Bonds-like “just walk the guy every time” hitting zone. And the Jays bats went suddenly cold. We’ll see.
  19. The Redbirds were a 500 team and 7.0 games behind the second wild card team at the trade deadline. In an effort to get pitching and salvage their season, they traded for a couple of struggling veteran lefthanders from other organizations who they thought might rebound in a new environment and give them some innings while Mikolas and Flaherty rehabbed from injury. The NL wild card game is a week from Wednesday.
  20. It would seem my original hunch was likely closest to being correct— Woods Richardson was put on that development list for reasons of mechanics and not throwing strikes. He had trouble in his first two appearances but they thought the answer was to let him pitch through it, which I like, and it looks like he found his footing again by the end. Another interesting question would be if they want to start him at High A Cedar Rapids, instead of AA Wichita, to start 2022, to give him a better chance to post some gaudy stat lines and give him some confidence. Thoughts? Long offseason, lots of time to see what happens.
  21. He could be a very useful bench player. I don’t think he holds up over a full season. I’ve read too many first hand reports including from ashbury which I unfortunately did not bookmark.. Nothing against the guy personally and like I said, maybe a good bench player, in the ways lineups used to be mostly fixed and players had roles.
  22. I’ll make the Danny Santana comp here.
  23. As long as you mention it, can I ask you a question? What is it about Berrios that you see as inconsistent, especially with respect to other starting pitchers? Is it the occasional bad start? Don’t most good pitchers have the occasional bad start, though? I look at the Berrios career stat line (not going to post it here; it can be looked up on many sites) and in all truth I cannot imagine how he could be any more consistent. I’m not calling him an ace, but has he been consistently good? I think so. Why don’t you think so?
  24. I can’t watch the game but have fun everyone. I’d be curious to hear from people if Berrios has still changed his windup and what people think of that.
  25. You or I might not have liked Gonsalves, @TheLeviathan, but the national guys did, and Falvey and Levine must have too, right? Or they would have traded him when he was valuable, right? (Apologies for using Stephen Gonsalves here to demonstrate a point; nothing personal.) A couple clicks around the Twins Daily archive brought me to this page (not cherry picking, it was the first one I found) and here is what one rater said of Gonsalves: 2) Stephen Gonsalves, LHP, Grade B+: You can make a good case to put him ahead of Gordon on strength of stellar 2016, 2.06 ERA in 140 innings, 155/57 K/BB, just 86 hits. Improvement in secondary pitches (curve, change, cutter) was key factor in 2016 and the numbers certainly back up strong reports. Fastball isn’t always premium in low-90s but respectable for a lefty, projects as a number three starter and perhaps more. Age 22. ETA: late 2017. (link) And here is what the starter of this thread today said back then about the rater, the ratings, and presumably, about how Gonsalves was rated: Hard to disagree with much of that. I realize it's not good form to dig up old takes (apologies again), but you were rejecting my own evidence and asking for it on your terms. So I went to find something that I think you would recognize as actual evidence and not just what you consider raw opinion or anecdote. Again, here's how Gonsalves was summed up: "Projects as a 3 or better." That's kind of how a few of our current prospects rate, correct? Can we agree to disagree on whether the cupboard was bare when Falvey took over? Handshake?
