    Yeah, I admit it would be nice to have Buxton, Correa, and Dobnak all locked up long-term. ? It depends on the money, obviously. And Correa seems ticketed for third base soon. I think the Twins have all the leverage.* Boras really blew it and at this point Correa’s value should be discounted deeply. So my reaction does depend on the final terms wherever he lands (I’m still betting The Fellowship signs him) * still bidding against the Mets I presume

    The problem with your survey options is that you are missing one: That the people who are usually wrong about stuff just keep being wrong about the next shiny new thing that comes along without stopping to reflect on how wrong they were in the past on all the other stuff. ?

    I love the concept but the Reddit poster forgot about Aaron Judge’s Triple Crown bid and that Arraez, of the Twins, was the batting average leader! That should have been listed in either the poster’s ‘award leader’ or ‘something interesting’ group, and eliminated the Twins from consideration for this terrible ignominy. (Maybe next year!) By the way, both Arraez and Judge woke up on the morning of Sept. 29 with a .313 batting average.

    If Correa does eventually sign with The Fellowship, I imagine manager Gandalf will let Correa wear the ring every time he reaches base. His stolen base numbers should go through the roof!

    I’d take it further: not only does this front office not spend money on starting pitching, but they don’t really believe in the value of starting pitching in the first place. In 2023 they will be leaning even more heavily on the bullpen—which should actually be much better next year than it was last year. So worry not. But the Twins are staring from a precarious spot and if things go wrong, the starting pitching has the ‘potential’ to be among the worst in the league. Not saying it will or that I want it to. Eovaldi would have been a nice little signing. The time to make hay in free agency was previous offseasons. According to a summary on MLBTR, among the best starting pitching free agents still available at this point are Bundy and Archer. There was a Michael Pineda reunion after 2019 — there may be a Dylan Bundy reunion in our near future. For 2023, the Twins will be hoping that several of their young guys take huge steps forward, and that their older guys stay healthy. I’d be curious to know how often their simulations spit out that outcome.

    I mean, maybe I would trade Arraez, everyone has their price, but I have no confidence that the front office would be able to identify the right trade partner and the right pitcher. None at all. Anyone who voted No to this poll could probably pull off a better trade just by spitballing, than Falvey or Levine. ? ? So let’s enjoy Arraez for who he is.

    This passage is key. Thanks, Nick. I don’t have the time to catch up on the other threads, but I’ve glanced through, and seen the “Giants got cold feet” argument made. I don’t buy it. Boras doesn’t move on that fast and leave that money on the table if there’s nothing there. Your suggestion that it’s the ankle makes a lot of sense.

    hmm… let’s see.. I was really high on Alex Meyer. I thought he should have been called up sooner, and that he didn’t get the breaks other guys get. However, he was with two teams in MLB and could not stick; talent would have won out at some point. As for the current teams… I was also wrong about Caleb Thielbar. He was a guy in a group of guys (Thorpe, Smeltzer) who I thought were easy cuts from the 40 man. There was the Rule 5 we lost Baddoo and Wells. I don’t know if I would trust Thielbar in Yankees Stadium but he’s certainly capable of getting some big outs. Also wrong about Kirilloff in that I did not think he would be as potentially special as he is—he is a truly natural hitter and pretty solid at first base. I figured him to be a good hitter and defensive liability. I hope he can make a full recovery. I also think Luis Arraez needs to be inked at second base and leadoff. Every day, set it and forget it. But other posters see it differently, that bouncing him around (my phrasing) works just fine. I don’t know how you prove which approach is right and which one isn’t.

    We have heard “don’t trade Kepler when his value is at a low point” plenty of times in the last 18 months. Now as of today, with the Gallo signing, we have two starting right fielders. So, yeah. Follow up: so on double checking, it looks like Gallo has played a lot of left, too. At bats taken away from younger players? Or “you can never have too many good players”? I agree with you @Sherry Cerny that dealings Urshela was a huge disappointment, for the reasons you stated.

    Correa gets 13/350 and Swanson gets 7/177. That’s basically half the contract. No way in my opinion is Correa twice as valuable as Swanson. I do value Swanson‘s ability to stay healthy and am just not sold on Correa being a top 5 player.

    One of the many great things about this win, is that you know there are die hard fans who gave up on the game and still don’t know the outcome.
