    Kudos to Twins Daily for shaking up the rankings! Raya looks like a guy to watch. Hits per 9 is a number I like to check to get a basic idea on guys I'm not familiar with, and that checks out really well with Raya. Then yeah the good analysis by @Hoze 🙂 and yeah the physical profile and even the windup comparison to Berrios is hard to miss.

    Seth knows much more about baseball than LaVelle and is a much harder worker. :) The Twins relationship with Boras could be an interesting subject, for sure. LaVelle's column kind of follows the formula of: 1. Sign Boras's players,... 2. ??? ... 3. Profit! but I think there's much richer subject matter to explore. LaVelle also uses the Houston Astros as a lead-in for how to build a World Series contender, which is kind of a double-edged sword given the many, many issues the Astros have had with off the field stuff.

    I would just assume that Boras is in it for himself, first and foremost. Then second, he's in it for his clients. By this point, a high profile client who hires Boras knows exactly what the game is. In my opinion, as it pertains to Correa, the Twins glass is half empty. Either the Twins will be vastly overpaying for a less mobile Correa at SS or Correa as 3B/DH before those six years is up, or they will be losing the opportunity to see either Lewis or Lee play shortstop just as good for a fraction of Correa's salary. Just one person's opinion.

    Good deep dive into some pitch level numbers. The statline of his debut in Detroit looks ok, but Woods Richardson almost got knocked out in the first inning in that game. You could say he settled down after that, but he also continued to give up a lot of hard contact. I will stay out of the prediction business, but I am confident predicting he won't be as good as Berrios.

    No, it was in games, and no, I'm thinking it does not happen routinely. So yeah that would be my question, too. I had only read he tops out around 90. What happened to the velo? He might have a better chance to stick if he can get back into the mid to upper 90s

    Kirilloff had multiple cortisone shots and a wrist surgery already, prior to the surgery in 2022. It's unfortunate for him, for sure, and for fans and the team. If I recall, one of those cortisone shots was while in the minors so that might have been a warning flag. But you could also say that it went from minor concern heading into 2021 to career-threatening concern in a blink of an eye. He might have had some trade value prior to August 2022, but at this point I would say not. I don't think the front office needs to come out point blank and say, "We will be lucky to get much from Kirilloff anymore, from this point going forward." That would be worst case, obviously, and I think that can be left unsaid. My own hope for Kirilloff is that he has some good stretches at DH. I don't know if catching baseballs affects his wrist or not or if keeping him out of the field would save some aggravation. You hate to ask a player to play through that pain.

    On the contrary, the Mets had no problem telling national reporters what their secondary offer to Correa was after the Mets rejected Correa's ankle scans. To translate this into Corporatespeak: "Dear Twins or other mystery team, here is our new offer to Correa: 6/157. Please beat it and release us from this negotiation." Transparent as a sunny day. The Twins not only beat that offer (for a player no other team really wanted that much), they beat it by 25%. It certainly is.

    Very nice article. I was in the game thread the night Arraez broke up Dylan Cease’s no-hitter, and if I recall, there was some brief back-and-forth about whether Cease should pitch around Arraez and walk him, or earn the no-hitter by retiring Arraez for the last out. Arraez being Arraez, lofts a single to right center. This is a huge, huge loss, and it’s impact will be both seen in the standings and also felt in the hearts of fans who care more about the team than the cold calculation of player values generated by a computer program somewhere.

    This gossip on Arraez's knees reminds me of the conversations we had about Bailey Ober's fastball. Or maybe it was Joe Ryan's. So Joe Ryan throws a 90-91mph fastball, but the Twins coaching staff can usually add a couple miles per hour to that, so really it's more like 92-93, but actually his deceptive delivery has the effect of adding a couple more mph, so really it's more like 94-95, and when he really wants to crank it up, he can add another couple mph on top of that. So basically it's more like a 96-97mph fastball than 90-91. If this thread goes long enough, we can get Arraez into knee replacement surgery and out of baseball in no time!

    Yeah im really interested in seeing how Purdy comes out in the second half. Good overall, didn’t ask much of him, but a little bit of a mental error waiting to get rid of that last pass.

    San Francisco leading Dallas 9-6 at half. Feels like the San Fran offense is just playing rope a dope. They might end up winning by three touchdowns, we will see. I’m really hoping we see a Maher FG attempt. Another missed extra point that he’s lucky was blocked.

    I mean, in another thread before the trade took place, you were telling me that trading away Arraez for Lopez wasn’t worth it, because Lopez was only a #3 and only had two more years of control. But now you are changing your tune. The minor leaguers Miami threw in are so far away that I find it hard to believe they tipped the scales for you that much.

    Close? I’d also rate Chicago’s rotation better, though I’d definitely give the edge to Minnesota’s bullpen with Hendricks going down. All the other teams in the Central also have a clear young Number #1 emerging, better than whoever the Twins number one is, although I think Skubal had a setback but Detroit isn’t going anywhere anyway. Pablo Lopez will help the Twins pitching staff, as long as his shoulder holds up. I don’t think anyone is arguing otherwise.

    This feels like a one for one deal to me, too. Arraez was under control through the end of 2025 and I am wondering how much value you think Salas will provide to the Twins in that time?

    Another way to put it is that .314 is actually Arraez’s second worst season batting average. Are hits overrated now? Interesting. Well what about hits plus walks? Arraez is 14th in MLB in OBP since his debut in 2019. For context, the top of that list includes guys like Trout, Judge, Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Juan Soto, who are the top five. Arraez is in the next tier with Goldschmidt, Betts, and other guys like that. Correa ranks 32nd in OBP since 2019. Granted, OBP is not the only hitting tool, and Correa is a better overall hitter than Arraez. But OBP is extremely important, it’s the “not making outs” tool that I remember people on this site used to make a big deal about. (until now)
