  1. Gary Sanchez was actually pretty good this season. I have no idea what he would expect for a contract. 2 years $18M?
  2. The more I look into Vazquez the more I like him.
  3. There's a Herschel Walker joke here somewhere
  4. The Pohlads are only interested in the house in Eagan if they can foreclose on it.
  5. I think we could find someone to remodel the doors if they sign Judge.
  6. The area they have excelled is finding athletic outfielders. They have utterly failed at acquiring pitching through international free agency.
  7. No, I mean when Polanco was playing he was producing awful results AND dragging down Correa's numbers. When Polanco was out of the lineup due to injury he was replaced by Gordon and Arraez and the 2B and SS defense BOTH improved. Polanco was a giant black hole of suck in 2022 that made the entire infield defense worse. I hope it was just due to injury and not a permanent drop in his performance.
  8. They have to find someone who can take that spot in the lineup. If not they would need to trade Polanco as part of a rebuild.
  9. It is a little scary to think about that. Polanco was horrible even with a very limited range to cover at 2B. With shifting reduced next season he will need to cover more ground or he will be unplayable. It makes you wonder how much of the shifting the Twins did last season was to cover up for their terrible second base defense.
  10. You have just described the average 2B in 2022.
  11. Odorizzi has a $12.5M player option he is sure to exercise. It costs $6.5M to buy him out so the Braves might choose to keep him.
  12. $20M won't even get you a premier starter. Verlander and deGrom might get double that per season. Scherzer is making $43M. Cole is at $36M.
  13. They don't need salary relief to sign a SS or SP. They have plenty of room in the budget for the next several seasons. Arraez might win the gold glove at 1B. He's not a terrible fielder. Love the line about Bonnes.
  14. Polanco was terrible at 2B in 2022. UZR/150 of -9.2 which was the second worst (to Gavin Lux). Second worst in Outs Above Average (-9) to Nolan Gorman. Below average in every defensive rating system and one of the worst fielding 2B in baseball in some of them. Carlos Correa's defensive numbers at SS started to climb at the end of the season when Polanco's injury kept him out of the lineup. This is the biggest reason why it would be difficult to trade Polanco. Nobody wants to downgrade their 2B defense that much. If Polanco is really this bad defensively then the Twins should trade him now before he becomes unplayable. Arraez and Gordon both graded out as average at 2B - Arraez slightly above and Gordon slightly below.
  15. Let's just be clear - Julien hasn't proven anything yet. Pitching in the Arizona Fall League is lousy this season. I would like to see a half season at AAA before he debuts. They can afford to move Polanco because they have another All-Star 2B in Arraez on the roster as well as plenty of MLB caliber depth (Gordon, Lewis, Miranda) and several interesting prospects (Martin, Lee, Julien, Schobel, Miller and the surprising Dalton Shuffield) in the infield. The upcoming free agent market is actually pretty lousy for 2B. Jean Segura and Brandon Drury are the top talent. Both are older and less desirable than Polanco. I wouldn't even target anything in particular for Polanco. Get the best overall talent you can find. If that includes a catcher even better. The reason NOT to move Polanco is he is coming off a down year with bad defense and time lost to injuries, If they can't find a good return he can absolutely help this team in 2023.
  16. Is there an increased risk of injury pitching in the rotation versus pitching in the bullpen? Is pitching back-to-back games more or less stressful than pitching 5 innings every 5th game?
  17. I saw today that Zach Eflin is about to be the father of twins. Seems like fate to me. There is actually a lot to like there - he's young (28) and he's been a shutdown reliever down the stretch for the Phillies. There is a chance he hasn't yet had his best season in the big leagues. He also shouldn't require more than a 3 or 4 year contract. The Twins seem to have a lot of pitchers to choose from but Mahle, Gray and Maeda are all in the final season of their contracts. Archer and Bundy pitched a lot of innings for the 2022 team and replacing them all with unproven rookies would be a mistake.
  18. The Twins are going to have to decide next season whether to keep Balazovic in the rotation or try him as a reliever. He's getting to the point in his career where they can't carry him on the roster if he isn't able to contribute to the big league team. Sands and Enlow are arms I would say are already destined for the bullpen.
  19. They actually used Duran for multiple inning stints quite often and rarely had him pitch back-to-back games.
  20. Who both ended up battling injuries and played fewer games combined than Gary Sanchez.
  21. They have a player who throws 100 MPH with two different nasty breaking balls. I think they should try putting Duran in the rotation. Worst case they put him back in the bullpen where he has already proven he can contribute.
  22. Drafted and signed? Not very many. There are a lot of high school players drafted after 539 who didn't sign and went to college. You can do the data search yourself, I'm not interested in going any deeper down this rabbit hole.
  23. I thought it could be interesting to trade him to the Rays for Manuel Margot. He's RH and a good fielder but underwhelming at the plate just like Kepler. The Rays want to add more lefties to their lineup. The Twins need more offense vs LHP.
  24. Yes, but not as often as they would with someone else.
