  1. Wait until you hear what the "Twins" team name refers to
  2. Lots of analysis on the shortstop supply, not much on the demand. I count the Dodgers, Red Sox, Phillies and Cubs as teams actively looking for a SS and I expect each of them to pursue one of the big four (Correa, Turner, Bogaerts, Swanson). The Braves, Yankees, Angels and Giants will also have interest at the right price. That's 8 teams with deeper pockets than the Twins they will have to outbid.
  3. The M looks like the Washington Senators W turned upside down.
  4. I am more interested in Manuel Margot of the Rays. RH bat who is a good defender. He's getting too expensive for Tampa.
  5. Urshela would be the top 3B on the free agent market if non-tendered. Any team looking for a 3B would be glad to have him at his projected salary.
  6. I don't think Boras lets Bogaerts sign before Correa.
  7. Besides the players not added this year (Urbina at the top of that list) the list of trade bait, ahem, players who need protection are Austin Martin, Aaron Sabato, Marco Raya, Alerick Soularie and Kalai Rosario. It will be a light year for adds next winter due to the 5 round 2020 draft.
  8. I get that they want to keep the lefty. Hope he's ready for the bullpen soon. They must know something about Legumina because based on his stat sheet he looks like a pitcher I would sell for $100k without worrying about it.
  9. Martin and Julien named to MLB's AFL team 2022 All-Arizona Fall League Team (mlb.com)
  10. Urshela has played SS and I'm sure he could play 1B. The Twins don't need any more second basemen, they're about 5 deep at that position.
  11. Why would you sign Drury to replace Urshela when you could just keep Urshela?
  12. A non-tender of Urshela would be pretty dumb. He would be the top available free agent 3B ranked above an aging Justin Turner and Evan Longoria.
  13. fWAR works fine. WPA measures context, not performance.
  14. I'm going to guess the Twins are willing to take $100k for Helman whether or not it is in the Rule 5 draft.
  15. I think Urbina has the ceiling of a starter but I also think he's low risk for a team to stash all year given how few position players are on a team's bench.
  16. I would rather see the Twins sign a free agent lefthanded pitcher and put him on the roster instead of adding Headrick. I think that will help the team more over the next couple seasons.
  17. I agree with just Julien and Canterino. Is Headrick more useful to have on the roster than Danny Couloumbe?
  18. Blayne Enlow is likely to end up in the bullpen. Heck, Louie Varland might contribute more as a reliever than as a starter before his big league career is over.
  19. For one, the old arbitration was already based on statistical data - just not as good at determining value as WAR. For another, the owners and players agreed on this new system together, nobody from Fangraphs or Baseball Reference had any say whatsoever in those negotiations.
  20. Disagree completely with this. WPA is a junk stat.
  21. The differences in WAR are philosophical. Everyone mostly agrees on offensive value. Replacement value can be calculated in different ways. Pitching value can start from runs allowed (bWAR) or from xFIP (fWAR). Defensive value has several systems to choose from. I'm actually surprised the players didn't suggest their own WAR system, considering it determines their pay.
