    I doubt they put Celestino on the MLB bench. He'll play every day in AAA and come up if Taylor gets hurt.

    The article mentions replacing Donovan Solano. Ultimately I think that's Miranda's role on a major league team. He's not a starter but he could be a good matchup reserve. On the downside, Solano didn't stick in the big leagues until age 31 with his 5th organization.

    I agree with Kepler but Garlick is a definite downgrade on Joey Gallo.

    Martin is probably a better defensive 2B than Julien. I'm hopeful Austin Martin becomes more than just a RH Nick Gordon (2B/LF/CF).

    I underestimated how quickly Buxton would go from all-defensive CF to DH. I thought there would be a stop in the corner outfield in between. The guy can't keep his knees healthy enough to practice catching flyballs so he can prepare for an outfield spot. This is Tony Oliva 1971 impact on his career.

    Who stops at second guessing here? I think we're up to our seventeenth guess on some decisions.

    I doubt it, unless they get an outfielder in return. That would mean a whole lot of Kyle Garlick playing time between now and October.

    They would probably be leading the division by 3-5 games.

    In general they've done better selling at the deadline than they have buying at the deadline. Part of that is inherent to deadline deal trades. The buyer is going to pay significantly above 'retail' prices at the end of July. Trades in the offseason are generally where you'll see even value. Nobody brings up the Josh Donaldson deal where the Twins absolutely destroyed the Yankees. Trading away oft-injured Mitch Garver looks like a win and it set up the Donaldson deal. The Arraez trade will be won or lost based on whether Salas and Chourio develop. The Farmer and Taylor deals look good. I wouldn't say they've done "extremely poorly". I think they've won about as many trades as they have lost and several of the "lost" trades are due to injuries. I'd give this front office a C grade for trades. My bigger issue is they don't acquire enough international free agent pitching talent. They have to be one of the worst organizations for identifying, signing and developing Latin pitchers.

    If that were true he would be traded already. His cost gets lower every passing day.

    If they break the playoff losing streak with one playoff win that's a step forward. This pitching staff looks pretty good for a short series. They have a good 4-man rotation and they can hide the worst relievers especially if they move starters (Maeda and Varland) to the bullpen. We have seen this offense get hot for a game here and there. I don't think anyone else in the division will buy at the deadline to try to catch the Twins.

    It would be nice if they had someone who was in the top 30 at their position all-time. They're good outfielders but that list is mediocre compared to other franchises. Of course the Twins are a pretty mediocre franchise so that makes sense.

    This has the potential to go off the rails (hello, moderator) but I'll just note that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences of your speech. It only refers to the government penalizing you for your speech. If you say something that publicly embarrasses your employer expect to get fired.

    Are there really people still in the major leagues who can't hit a 95 MPH fastball? I think that's kind of a prerequisite.

    That doesn't happen year-to-year but it does month to month and nobody questions it. Defensive stats are based on fewer chances than offense plate appearances so there will be a higher variation in the results. I have also seen many players play through an injury that affects their defense more than their offense.

    They don't have an impressive list of all-time greats, period.

    I'm not sure they're far off from that. The AI can't sit in the dugout though so they have to find a paper-pusher like Rocco to actually do what it says. The front office is happy with Rocco. He's doing exactly what they want him to do (which is a good way to keep your job). If they fire Rocco they'll just bring in another Rocco.

    I'm pretty sure the analytics guys hand the game plan to Rocco, including the lineup.

    Rocco isn't the top. I don't think he writes out the lineup.

    I wanted the Twins to sign Eflin but it sounds like he took a hometown discount to play near home in Orlando.
