  1. I think it would be a waste to use his service time before he's ready to contribute in the big leagues.
  2. Based on his AA numbers he needs more reps before he's ready to contribute at the MLB level from that side of the plate. There is no sense promoting him if any lefty reliever is going to be able to get him out. They should have learned from Aaron Hicks that switch hitters take longer to develop.
  3. I think switch hitting is going to slow down that race for Lee. Ideally you'd want him to have 100 PA against lefties at AAA before he gets promoted. They should be preparing him for a full-time position, not a platoon role.
  4. Maeda is in the playoff rotation with Gray and Lopez. Joe Ryan could be a relief option.
  5. One other thing to note. Julien is probably dragging down Correa's defensive numbers as they are not good together turning the double play (the Twins are near last in the league in double plays per game). That's mostly Julien's fault.
  6. I think the article overrates Julien's glove. He's a -6 in both Total Zone and Defensive Runs saved in 400 innings which would be -17/-18 runs saved extrapolated to a full season. You don't see players below -20 very often because teams don't tolerate defense that bad. Kyle Farmer has been below average at SS but exactly average at 2B which would mean the gap between Farmer and Julien over a full season would be almost 2 WAR. Farmer's bat is rated at -4 vs Julien's +10 over roughly the same number of plate appearances. That's a 3 WAR gap over a full season. That gives Julien the edge by 1 WAR overall. Really the best answer is to platoon Farmer and Julien. Julien has been awful hitting lefties (.412 OPS) while Farmer is known for hitting lefties. Farmer can replace Julien defensively in the 8th and 9th innings or conversely Julien can pinch hit for Farmer. Their value when deployed properly is about 1 WAR compared to randomly assigning their innings.
  7. Julien has had 4 off seasons worth of work at 2B since the draft as well as the entire COVID offseason but I'm sure one more offseason worth of work will do the trick.
  8. I like that role for Polanco but question whether he's worth $10M as an oft-injured utility infielder.
  9. I think Brooks Lee would save about 30 defensive runs more than Julien at 2B. +10 vs -20.
  10. Based on what I've seen at AAA he can definitely handle SS in the majors and would be an immediate gold glove candidate at 1B. He is a very good infielder. He's a coach's kid who could probably give a fielding clinic at every position. I don't know why the Twins would put one of their best fielders out of position at 1B while playing one of their worst fielders (Julien) at 2B, that just seems mind-blowingly stupid. They would be giving up so many outs. Lee's bat is not ready yet and it likely won't be ready until May of next season at the earliest. It certainly isn't ready for the offensive expectations at 1B. Play one of the utility guys (Farmer, Castro, Solano, Polanco) at 1B until Kirilloff returns (that's why you have utility players on the roster) unless you get a RH SP who can't throw a changeup in which case you can play Gallo.
  11. Yeah, and Delmon Young got more and more reps in the outfield and kept getting worse. Miguel Sano was awful pretty much everywhere. Sometimes they just don't have the athleticism to play defense. Even if Julien improves, he'll still be like the 5th best choice in the organization to play defense at 2B next season. Do people really think Julien would be worse than Delmon Young or Josh Willingham in LF?
  12. Open question whether they would be as effective if everyone knew he only throws two pitches. Also worth investigating whether he throws the other offspeed pitches to lefties/righties more often. I think ditching the two-seamer could help based on your data. Getting a better 3rd pitch would make the most difference.
  13. It's just frustration that people think Julien can't catch a ball or judge a pop fly, so let's put him at an up-the-middle defensive position where it really hurts the team defensively instead of hiding him at one of the easiest positions.
  14. Pretty bold to put Julien, Wallner and Duran ahead of Kirilloff. Assuming Brooks Lee and Royce Lewis are also in that list it doesn't leave room for Jenkins.
  15. I want the Twins to trade him for pitching like the Rays did when they dumped Delmon Young on the Twins.
  16. He's unplayable at 2B for a whole season. If that's his best position, then he doesn't have one. LF would be a better choice simply because they get fewer chances to screw up than 2B. They made the 2B decision before the rules changes about infield shifting. Now 2B range matters again and Julien doesn't have enough range.
  17. Brooks Lee is in AAA getting ready for 2024. It's plenty challenging for him as a hitter.
  18. I don't care how hard Julien works defensively he won't ever be a better choice at 2B than Brooks Lee. I'd rather see them have Julien work hard in the offseason at 1B or LF to see if there is one position in the field he can play competently.
  19. 1) Buxton has a no-trade clause as part of the contract 2) No other team wants Buxton if he can't play defense I wish I would stop seeing people make this suggestion. It has no basis in reality.
  20. I think I would rather have Maeda for one season $20M than two seasons $30M. He will be 37 in 2025.
  21. I don't know if this strategy has really paid off for the Twins. Pineda wasn't much better than any other random $10M starting pitcher. We'll see if Paddack produces more than an innings eater after his surgery. There is limited upside and plenty of downside signing Mahle.
