    I was with you until you said Dobnak. I think they would go to Canterino and/or Headrick (already on the 40 man roster) or Festa (need to add him to the 40 man soon anyway) before they go back to Randy Dobnak. I see Dobnak last on the Triple-A depth chart and only ahead of the Double-A pitchers. That puts him 11th on the overall depth chart.

    This is nonsense. Players in the minor leagues are competing at their highest athletic ability. Nobody is coasting in the minors and the radar guns will prove the pitchers are throwing just as hard.

    Miranda still isn't throwing. Canterino walked 6 batters per 9 innings in Double-A.

    A team will generally need 8 starting pitchers to get through a season. Varland should get 25 starts just like Ober did last year. Matt Canterino has pitched 0 innings above Double-A and was out injured for all of last season. Calling him "major league ready" is ridiculous. Miranda showed what he could do last season and it wasn't much. Based on AAA stats he should be behind Yunior Severino on the depth chart.

    The favorite is someone not currently on the 40-man roster. None of the players mentioned are Plan A.

    The Cubs are still interested and they have a lot of room in the budget.

    He is progressing nicely. He has two more years before he has to be added to the MLB 40-man roster to make sure they don't lose him in the Rule 5 draft. That would make him out of options at age 25. That means he should spend a chunk of next season in Double-A to keep him in the long-term plans. I expect Miller will have difficulty hitting at Double-A which means there is likely to be a competition for playing time.

    Michael A Taylor would be a fine addition to the bench but he may still be looking for an every day opportunity. I don't think the price will come down far enough on the top free agents to get them to the Twins. I expect the Cubs, Angels, Giants and Yankees are still interested at prices higher than the Twins want to pay.

    Instead of offering knothole tickets (which is how I always saw a game as a kid) they decided shutting down the upper deck entirely was the better move.

    I think that's low. I see > $40M in his last two years of arbitration as a real possibility.

    Other teams are giving players long-term extensions with zero games played.

    If I was Royce Lewis I would actually prefer a 6 year deal to a 10 year deal. Hit free agency at age 30 and get my next big contract. The Twins would be able to give him a QO and recoup a draft pick at that age too.

    I expect to see Santana at 1B nearly every day. He's their best fielder and they didn't sign him to just face lefties.

    If they get into a bind that probably means someone is going on the injured list, which opens up the roster spot. Also, Willi Castro still has an option. Taylor is a better fit than Austin Martin. The projection systems have their expected contribution at the plate as basically even but Taylor is a much better fielder. That said, Taylor is probably worth less than $5M to the Twins.

    Santana is basically the same as playing Polanco at 1B, which was suggested by several here, but at half the cost.

    I would keep them out of the plans until May, barring injury.

    I would plan on Santana taking 1B since he rates much higher on defense than Miranda or Kirilloff.

    What does his arbitration schedule look like without an extension? That's essentially a team option every season for the next 5 years. The best 3B make $30M a season but those are free agent prices. Austin Riley is a better comp than Witt and he's getting 10 years $212M. He signed that deal closer to free agency than Royce and with better health and production in the seasons leading up to the deal. 10 years $180M would be my offer. That accounts for the extra season of pre-arbitration control the Twins have compared to Riley and the injury history.

    Jim Fregosi was a helluva ballplayer. The projections are right to expect Correa, Buxton and Lewis to drive this offense. It is more optimistic about Kirilloff than I am.

    I'm expecting Kirilloff to get those DH starts.

    I see Martin gets a 55 grade for speed which is about 28 ft/s. That's about as fast as Wallner and Royce Lewis and slower than Buxton and Castro.

    Taylor is going to have to decide whether he wants to be a starter for (for example) the Pirates or a backup for (example) the Twins. The money will probably be the same.

    It isn't what it used to be, it's considerably more.

    I don't think any team has a single day where all 26 players at the top of the depth chart are healthy.
