  1. The Twins are league average at grounding into double plays. Problem solved. BTW - the antidote to GIDP is usually swinging hard, which creates strikeouts. The people here who want fewer strikeouts are asking for more double plays.
  2. Player OPS+ Luis Arraez 153 Alex Kirilloff 191 Joey Gallo 146 The Twins don't really miss Arraez at all.
  3. No, good teams generally go .500 on a road trip or 3-3. They go 4-2 at home. That's a 94 win pace - win half your game on the road and 2/3 at home. Your expectations are completely unrealistic - you're expecting a 135+ win pace.
  4. It's so dismal that he's been above average both offensively and defensively compared to his peers at his position.
  5. Take out the 5 highest scoring games for any team and their average runs per game will fall. If I take out their 5 lowest scoring games their average runs will go up too. Removing data from the sample makes it less representative, not more.
  6. The "putrid" offense that is 11th out of 30 teams in scoring runs? I don't think people here have a clue about what is happening around baseball. Every team has a ton of strikeouts. We're seeing the highest rate of strikeouts in 150 years of major league baseball. The teams that strike out the least are the 20-27 Nationals and the 20-26 Guardians. They also hit the least home runs and are 24th and 28th in runs scored. Swinging for the fences is the way teams score runs in major league baseball. People pine for Luis Arraez but don't notice that Miami has the worst offense in the league. They're not going to win every game or every series or even every homestand but they are a good team. I am really tired of the constant whining here win or lose. Every game someone will rant about Buxton's injured knee, or strikeouts, or Pagan (whether he pitches or not) or how the coaching staff sucks or (the most ridiculous) how this team "lacks courage" or "doesn't know how to win". It's a west coast road trip against two playoff contenders. They're not going to sweep the teams.
  7. He's not "soft". He has a knee injury he's been rehabbing all season. I'm having Joe Mauer deja vu.
  8. Thank you. Jax needs to use the whole strike zone, not just one corner. A slider down and away is a good pitch but it can't be your only pitch.
  9. They found a spot for Solano on this "clogged" 40 man roster in March. I understood not adding anyone in January but I was bewildered why they didn't when the 60 man IL spots opened up.
  10. They should have kept Danny Couloumbe. He's been effective and he's dirt cheap.
  11. The problem with Julien is the spot he's most likely to help this team is DH with Buxton moving to CF.
  12. Miranda to AAA is exactly this kind of move and we're all hoping Royce Lewis is a top of the pile addition.
  13. 3B has been moving up the spectrum for 15 years. Fielding chances have declined faster for other positions due to the rise in strikeouts.
  14. The commonly accepted defensive spectrum aligns with positional adjustment values in WAR. If you look at the difference in average offense by position that's the way it lines up. It hasn't always been static. In the 1920s there was a lot more bunting and fewer double plays so 3B was more important than 2B. With the defensive shift 2B was trending lower in importance but it's gained that back this season. Position Player WAR Calculations and Details | Baseball-Reference.com 2B, CF and 3B are close on that list.
  15. This is not correct. CF is in the middle of the defensive spectrum right next to 3B and 2B. A player who can field and hit at any of those positions is worth about the same defensively. C, SS, 2B, CF, 3B, RF, LF, 1B in that order. 2B and 3B get to turn double plays and CF generally does not.
  16. Balazovic is going to get beat up in his first go around at the MLB level. He's not ready to help a playoff team win games.
  17. Lee isn't ready yet and Lewis is a better infielder than Julien or Miranda. They're not going to move the plus fielder to the outfield to put the minus fielder in the infield. That makes no sense.
  18. Any update on Maeda? He's been out 3 weeks with a triceps injury.
  19. To replace him they need a better option. Giving the job to Balazovic based on 18 innings where he's walked 11 batters is laughable. DeLeon isn't the answer either. Cole Sands has not impressed. Alcala has struggled. Winder is awful at the moment. The cupboard is bare. They didn't address the bullpen when it only cost money during the offseason so they're going to have to pay for relief help with prospects if they want an improvement.
  20. The bad calls mostly even out over time. A robot strike zone won't actually affect more than a game or two in the standings. That matters, especially for a playoff series, but the Twins aren't going to see any net benefit.
  21. I think I'd have Ariel Castro ahead of Helman. In fact I'd trade Helman for any of the top 3 international free agents the Twins signed last summer.
  22. Royce Lewis is playing like he deserves a position somewhere. No rust at all with a .455/.539/.818 slash line (plus 3 stolen bases) so far. Farmer is hitting WELL above his established past performance.
  23. The Twins tried something different this year putting the young prospects at Cedar Rapids and the older org guys in Fort Myers. I think that might have been a mistake. Some of the players at Cedar Rapids are failing at that level (Salas, Urbina, Cavaco) while some of those at Fort Myers are not being challenged (Cossetti, Shuffield). Making each team a mix of older and younger players for the rest of the season would be a better idea.
