  1. They have some minor leaguers who they probably won't protect next December that other teams may be interested in. If they don't shop those players at the trade deadline the alternative is giving them away for nothing.
  2. It's not really a slump - it's a complete inability to hit changeups. They are feeding him a steady diet of changeups, he knows they are coming and he can't hit them. I think he has been getting a little unlucky with the looking strikeouts - some should have been walks - but right now he is completely neutralized by even mediocre changeups. Dan Gladden said in the radio broadcast with the gist of "If I was a pitcher facing Gallo and I didn't have a changeup I'd come up with one in a hurry."
  3. This team is not one player away from a championship. They should be shopping the clearance aisle, not the window display.
  4. The Lopez trade might be the worst. At least Mahle threw the ball decent in his few healthy starts. Lopez has been terrible. Do NOT give up anything valuable for a relief pitcher. Trade #7 was a nothing-for-nothing deal that matters about as much as picking up a DFA pitcher.
  5. Are you talking about the same guy who couldn't run to first base without injuring himself last evening?
  6. They're going to "eat" this contract whether they are playing him or not. It's a sunk cost. I try not to be too harsh on Gallo. He was quite useful in April playing well at 1B and at the plate. He is a capable defender at 1B and the corner OF positions and he can hit the ball a ton when he connects. There is a role for that on many teams including the Twins. The problem is the Twins have too many players like Gallo on offense. It is pretty disheartening that the Twins have spent $35M on Gallo, Kepler and Buxton and they're not getting much production out of any of them.
  7. I am really glad Cutch didn't sign with the Twins and is having a great season in Pittsburgh. It's like when Torii Hunter came back to the Twins.
  8. Lots of times last night when the Twins picked the wrong pitch to swing at - letting hittable pitches go in favor of swinging at unhittable pitches. I think their game plan at the plate was not prepared for how the Tigers were pitching. Tigers management has stolen several games against the Twins this year and they have their team playing well above expectations.
  9. Julien looks completely lost at second base and Correa looks frustrated trying to teach the rookie what to do in real time. He's giving back on defense everything he provides on offense. I agree, play Farmer at 2B. When they send Julien back to the minors give him a first baseman's glove. It's going to take years of additional reps at second base to make him playable and even then he won't be good.
  10. Yes, let's wait another month for the team to make the obvious decision.
  11. Johan Santana and David Cone look really good compared to the current generation of starting pitchers. Yet they couldn't even stay on the ballot.
  12. I think this season they should think less about buying veterans with prospects or selling veterans for prospects and more about remaking the roster by dealing vets for vets. Example: send Kepler out for an expensive, mediocre reliever. I think buyers will outnumber sellers at the deadline so there will be an opportunity for buyers to deal with each other.
  13. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that Ryan threw a no-walker. Was everyone making sure they didn't discuss it to keep from jinxing the no-walker? Is that the first no-walker of the 2023 season? Who is the last pitcher to throw a no-walker?
  14. Would rather see them add Dalton Guthrie.
  15. Popkins isn't the reason Kepler isn't performing. Kepler's 30 and he peaked at age 26. Hitting coaches can't reverse time.
  16. I doubt Solano continues at that pace for the rest of the year. That would make 2023 his best season of production ever. ZIPS projects him at a 106 wRC+ for the remainder of the season. That's what you would want Miranda and/or Williams to replace.
  17. That's like a days rest for every inning they throw in a start.
  18. It would be hilarious if the entire AL Central sold at the deadline.
  19. Solano is earning his paycheck. There is a role for a cheap, RH bench bat who can play the field. Once we get past the first arbitration year for Miranda they should probably re-evaluate.
  20. I don't want him playing 3B for the Twins except in an emergency. He's not good enough. I think when Miranda grows up he's going to be Solano.
  21. Solano is 3rd in plate appearances for the Twins. That's plenty of playing time for Miranda. Miranda (or Chris Williams) and Julien could share first base. Outfield of Larnach, Taylor and Kirilloff. Wallner at DH. That isn't going to be worse than what they're doing right now.
  22. If you want to bring up Miranda find a home for Solano and give him that role. I think they can go with the youth movement and still win the division. In fact, it might be their best chance to win the division. Larnach looks better than Kepler in the outfield. Wallner or Julien looks better than Buxton at DH. Sands and Winder can replace Lopez and Pagan.
  23. I have confidence Buxton will be out for the season within a week if they make him play the outfield. He currently can't stay healthy as a DH.
