  1. I wouldn't necessarily say this team is built on defense. Polanco, Wallner, Julien and Kirilloff are in the starting lineup for offense. Fortunately they have someone (Castro, Farmer, Solano, Stevenson) available to replace all of them defensively if the team takes a lead.
  2. Ober was better than Duran, too. I think people continue to underestimate how much more difficult it is to be a starting pitcher and get outs for 5-6 innings than it is to be a reliever and get outs for 1 inning.
  3. Sonny Gray was phenomenal at limiting HR this season. That's everything in 2023 baseball.
  4. The Twins were clearly more prepared for this series than the Blue Jays. Great job by the guys behind the scenes figuring out how Gausman was tipping the splitter and also the Jays hitters' vulnerability to curveballs. The Jays were outmanaged in several ways.
  5. I have no idea who that reporter thought he was talking about. Can someone tag him and ask?
  6. Expanding the zone with 3 balls in the count is a terrible idea. That pitch gives him a walk at least 75% of the time. Swinging at a pitch at the edge of the zone is not going to have a 750 OBP, especially for Julien who has a hard time hitting pitches in that part of the zone.
  7. You do know he's had two ACL surgeries already, right?
  8. Carroll was 21 last season. Lewis is 24 now. There is a big difference between buying ages 27-29 and ages 30-32.
  9. I would like to see if he can play a full season before offering him a longer-term contract than the 5 year deal they already have.
  10. Royce Lewis is already under contract for the next 5 seasons.
  11. You'd give up 4 Royce Lewis walks a game in favor of one pinch hit? Let them pitch around him and take the free baserunners.
  12. I stand by this one. Castro to 3B.
  13. I guarantee Correa practices making plays just like that one (field barehanded and throw home). My daughter practiced plays like that in high school.
  14. Somewhat notable for who ISN'T on the roster: Gallo, Keuchel, Buxton, Larnach, Luplow and the relievers who pitched most of the bullpen innings during the season.
  15. On my depth chart the 12th arm is Griffin Jax.
  16. Of the infielders Kirilloff can play outfield and of the outfielders Castro can play infield so there is good positional flexibility. Stevenson makes the roster instead of Buxton.
  17. Agreed
  18. That's exactly what they're doing in the next round - starting on Friday. The Wild-Card round is the play-in round for the real playoffs. ESPN doesn't have football to show Tuesday-Thursday and they want some programming. Hence, wild card baseball.
  19. Polanco, he's a bad defender at 3B. I would have Buxton and Polanco (and possibly Kirilloff) riding the bench.
  20. I believe option 2 is the plan for round 1. Lewis had the highest OPS+ of any Twins hitter. They want his bat in the lineup. Willi Castro can handle 3B as well as Royce can defensively. Buxton, if he's on the roster, will take Luplow's RH bench bat role.
  21. You really think it was the Twins and not the Rockies who are tanking?
  22. No. The game is on ESPN. Find a friend with ESPN (good time to visit an elderly relative) or a local bar.
  23. No blackouts for the postseason of any team
  24. He usually writes parody or satire, not sarcasm.
