  1. I thought the Marlins were even worse for hitting for their catchers.
  2. Over the past 2 weeks I'm not sure that has been true, which is sad. Some of the better bats would make the defense worse enough that I'd rather have Vazquez in the lineup and Jeffers at DH.
  3. It was a clear mistake at the time for the front office to not extend Jose Berrios. Once they made that bad decision, they did okay with the consequences. It appears they want to make that mistake all over again with their current young talent because they didn't offer ANY of them a team-friendly contract extension this past offseason.
  4. Did those playoff teams also rank next to last in offensive production? This team cannot win games with average starting pitching.
  5. 130 games for Jeffers is not going to happen unless 30 of those games are at DH. Adley Rutschman maxed out at 110 games behind the plate in 2023.
  6. Why do people continue to believe Berrios would have signed a free agent contract with the cheapskate Twins?
  7. I'm actually optimistic about the trade. Two of the members of the current team came from that trade. If Berrios had left as a free agent instead they would have nothing to show for it.
  8. Royce Lewis is clearly a 60 day IL candidate. Would they add Keirsey to the 40 man and give him his debut or go with someone they feel comfortable cutting like Diego Castillo?
  9. The competition for the job is not fierce. An ERA around 5 will give him the job for the season.
  10. How good was his slider in the 5th inning? We'll never know because they won't let him pitch into the 5th inning.
  11. FYI - Cubs are giving away a cheap 1B who looks about as good as Jose Miranda
  12. Every start from Festa makes it look more and more likely that his future is in the bullpen.
  13. He still needs to go, giving the playing time to Larnach, Wallner and Kirilloff will be more important in August and September.
  14. I'm 100% in favor of this. Max goes for the best prospects available at the deadline.
  15. I checked, my take holds up - signing Santana prevented them from signing someone better. Brandon Belt - who outhit every Twin except Royce Lewis in 2023 - is sitting at home waiting for someone to give him a job. Jose Miranda is showing that he's a better option as a RH platoon bat at 1B. Even if we assume a bounce back for Santana from terrible to mediocre. this is a simple move to make. Bench him until they can work out a contract with Belt and then release him. Could be worse, see the Astros and Jose Abreu.
  16. He has a 5.20 ERA in AAA since the beginning of 2023 which would project to > 6 in the big leagues. It would likely be a long, drawn-out story of failure.
  17. In the least surprising development of the season, Matt Canterino is still injured.
  18. With hindsight, they should have put more emphasis on the going forward part of the trade.
  19. Maybe they can bring Polanco back next season after Seattle declines his option.
  20. It appears that 2024 has seen another drop in offense around the league. Batting average is down. The rates of 2B and HR are also down. K rates are steady. Pitching velocity usually affects the oldest players the most. Judging just by age I think Willi Castro is the best bet to bounce back from his early hitting woes.
