  1. Is Luplow vs elite starting pitching better?
  2. Can he play 1B?
  3. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia 'wouldn't have' had knee surgery after 2017 season - ESPN
  4. If the Twins sign Taylor it will need to be at the beginning of free agency because he will not last on the market long. That would answer a lot of questions (negatively) about Buxton's knee. I think they'll roll with Castro, Gordon and Martin in CF next year with the hope that Martin wins that competition.
  5. Would you prefer Alonso or Goldschmidt? Plenty of time for these articles in November. Right now I'm enjoying the magic number thread more.
  6. I think Taylor will get a lot of attention in free agency this offseason. There are very few center fielders available. Bellinger and Bader are the only guys under 30. Of the rest only Kiermaier had a better season than Taylor. I don't think the Twins will be the high bidder.
  7. Why? If he gets injured he can be replaced.
  8. This is true, but the computer isn't calling the black part of the plate. The umpires (and hitters) know it and have shrunk the zone to match the computer.
  9. Time on the injured list will not grow cartilage in your knee. If that is the issue he will continue to have chronic injury problems with the knee. I still hope he's able to return for the playoffs. I'd rather have him on the bench than Jordan Luplow.

  11. They also have to make the adjustment to the larger strike zone in MLB versus AAA. The automated strike zone does the batters no favors for developing as a hitter.
  12. The umpire's job is to call balls and strikes, not encourage the batter to swing. A ball just off the corner has a 50/50 chance of being called a strike. That's a .500 OBP if you take the pitch (which is elite). It's worth a 50% strikeout rate if you also have a .500 OBP.
  13. You assume he hasn't been doing much with his knee. I assume his life has been nearly constant rehab since the surgery. Without a medical opinion I can't guess whether he will recover but it doesn't look good so far.
  14. It's time to give him a season in the big leagues and see what happens. There's no reason to stash him in AAA for another season.
  15. Can he rehab the shoulder injury enough that his power returns? If not, he's not going to make it. I think that's been the root cause all season.
  16. The Twins control Ober until the end of 2027, at which point he will be 32 years old. There is very little incentive to give him a long-term contract.
  17. I'm not. There aren't that many pitchers who can successfully pitch 5 innings in the big leagues. If you go to a 6 man rotation on the Twins you're giving innings to someone like Headrick instead of Sonny Gray. There are a lot more pitchers who can get through 1 inning than can get through 6 innings.
  18. As far as getting maximum production out of Ober I think they've handled him well. He's pitched great this season. They will be counting on him again next season.
  19. A win today means they would be expected to clinch in Chicago instead of Cincinnati.
  20. No. I'm saying trying to win is a lot more fun than selling at the deadline.
