  1. Interesting to see someone argue that Christian Vazquez is underpaid.
  2. I don't think there is much downside to giving him a chance in the rotation. If he struggles, move him back to the bullpen.
  3. There is a difference between "offseason" replacement value where there are tons of freely available players ready to fill in the margins of your roster and "in-season" replacement value where you are limited to your own organization or whoever gets dumped on the waiver wire. You are right that having someone like Castro allows for more in-season flexibility when determining who gets called up in the Twins organization. That has value that is not captured in WAR.
  4. They need either a RH hitting 4th outfielder OR they need a second baseman. Castro can move to the other spot. If they get both they can start their players with huge question marks (Julien, Martin, Lee) in the minors and see which ones produce. I don't see Vazquez getting moved until the trade deadline when half his salary is paid down. They don't have any pitchers I would count on to fill in for Ryan, Lopez or Ober. They have some options who could take Paddack's spot without much drop-off (if any). I agree that the bullpen needs a good lefty.
  5. And he hated Milwaukee. Why would he want to come to Minnesota?
  6. The Pohlads have quite a few properties in Minneapolis. Those properties are more valuable with the Twins in Minneapolis so I expect they will want to sell to a buyer interested in keeping the team in Minnesota.
  7. This is not how major league teams play baseball in 2024. The league leader in sacrifice bunts was the Diamondbacks with 34. That's one bunt every 5 games. League average is 15 sacs, one every 10 games.
  8. They should probably send Dobnak to Wichita. He's taking innings in St. Paul that would be better used on their starting pitcher prospects (Festa, Morris, Raya, Matthews, Headrick, Adams, Lewis).
  9. Profar is a great fit for the Twins but I'm not sure they have any budget space to acquire him. Jesse Winker hit .199 for the Brewers in 2023 and .243 for the Mets this year. He's a pretty volatile batter and a below average fielder. He doesn't add anything.
  10. Counterpoint - what other MLB team offers a controlling interest for just 19% of the purchase price?
  11. Sounds like they haven't made the right campaign donations.
  12. I'm sure the twins could assemble a lineup that is 16 points above league average. That team would hit ..260, not .280. You can't defy a league-wide trend by finding "the right" players.
  13. Miranda improved at 1B to mediocre but his success rate at 3B was just as poor as 2023. Jose Miranda Stats: Statcast, Visuals & Advanced Metrics | baseballsavant.com (mlb.com) Lewis has the better arm and range. He's clearly better than Miranda at 3B. Royce Lewis Stats: Statcast, Visuals & Advanced Metrics | baseballsavant.com (mlb.com)
  14. #2 and #3 usually boil down to additional real estate that the team can develop around the stadium. The Pohlads already developed the real estate around Target Field. Meanwhile... Renderings of Related Midwest’s The 78, White Sox Stadium (therealdeal.com)
  15. No, Miranda grades out much better defensively at 1B than he does at 3B and Lewis grades better than Miranda at 3B. Your idea would downgrade the defense at both positions compared to playing Lewis at 3B and Miranda at 1B.
  16. Warren Buffet owns a piece of the Braves and previously owned 25% of the Omaha minor league team.
  17. It would be awesome if the Twins had 9 players better than Willi Castro. They clearly don't.
  18. The team currently has a big gaping hole at DH. Rather than filling that hole with whatever mediocre bat they can find in free agency I'd like to see them acquire someone who is good at fielding the ball and push one of their lesser defenders to DH.
  19. Adding the DH to the National League changed first base expectations. There are only so many elite bats who you want to hide on defense. Now that you can use 15 more players at DH the player at 1B has to be able to field the position.
  20. MLB batting average was .265 in 1979. It's .243 now. The highest batting average of any team in 2024 was .263. The Twins aren't going to hit 15 points higher than the best team in baseball. To assemble a team that hits .280 in 2024 you would need to have every player better than the top 5 in batting average at their position. 5th best batting average at each position in 2024: 1B Yandy Diaz .281 (Miranda hit .284 FWIW) 2B Brendan Donovan .278 SS Corey Seager .278 3B Rafael Devers .272 LF Lourdes Gurriel .279 CF Julio Rodriguez .273 RF Fernando Tatis Jr .276 C Salvador Perez .271 DH Marcell Ozuna .302 So, the Twins just need to acquire an All-Star caliber bat at every position (with a $130M budget) and the team can hit .280. Simple.
  21. The Mariners own their regional sports network. They just lost the NBA and NHL. The RSN era is ending.
  22. Looks like the White Sox are for sale now as well. Two teams looking for a new buyer.
  23. I agree that they have a lot of options to help the back end of the pen. The one guy listed who could help close games is Prielipp. He could potentially be one of their top 4 relievers.
