  1. Are they talking to a team in South Korea? Dobnak doesn't belong in MLB and he probably isn't good enough to play in Japan.
  2. Lee, Julien and Martin haven't earned everyday playing time with their performance. They should start the season in AAA.
  3. Plus Ronny Henriquez. It would be prudent to trade out some of their bullpen depth along with Paddack for offense. If they add a 1B then I expect Miranda to fill 3B. They really want to add an outfielder so only two of Julien, Helman, Keirsey, Lee and Martin make the 26-man roster.
  4. They're looking to make a trade. I think that they will lose some bullpen depth in that trade.
  5. The 1988 Twins won 91 games, so he couldn't have made it that much worse. Herr got replaced by Lombardozzi who famously got into a fight with Dan Gladden.
  6. Whether a clubhouse can survive some jerks is mostly up to the manager. Many people with elite athletic skills are lacking in social skills. People coddle elite athletes and rarely hold them accountable for their behavior.
  7. Yes. There are MLE translation charts for AAA to MLB performance. The general drop in performance is 100-200 points compared to what the player is doing in AAA. The players you have noted were quite young in AAA and still improving which is why their numbers in MLB are comparable or better to what they did in AAA. However, if you only look at what they did at AAA in the same season as when they were promoted to MLB you will see, on average, a dropoff of 150 points of OPS depending on league and ballpark context. League Equivalencies | Sabermetrics Library Michael Helman is 28 years old, the age when baseball players are at their peak performance at the plate. His actual AAA performance minus 150 points should be a good estimate for his MLB performance. If his performance is better, then he got better. He's equally likely to get better as Amed Rosario. Helman is relevant because the current projection has him getting 300+ PAs on the 26-man roster. That's who they would be replacing by signing a veteran like Rosario. I think both options are a bad bet for a team with playoff aspirations.
  8. Helman has 847 plate appearances in AAA that translate to a 650 OPS in MLB and he's not a gold-glove candidate on defense.
  9. I think they could do well trading relief pitching for hitting. Trading starting pitching for hitting would just be trading one hole for another.
  10. FYI - Amed Rosario is only one year older than Michael Helman. If Rosario is a known bad player, then so is Helman.
  11. Who said they shouldn't have signed Lopez? That's a terrible take. That extension looks terrific right now.
  12. That would be on brand. It will probably take two teams like the Rays-Dodgers trip Margot took to the Twins and the Giants-Mariners trip taken by DeSclafani.
  13. Miranda is right-handed, cheap and already on the roster
  14. I thought I saw Texas celebrating on the field in 2023. Did I dream that up?
  15. I see three potential rookies with actual upside potential - Brooks Lee, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Luke Keaschall. If they want to give playing time to develop those guys, then I'm okay with the decision. Betting on Helman, Keirsey and Martin is a loser bet. They never give a straight answer (so they can't be held accountable) but the plan for the infield appears to be 3B Lee, SS Correa, 2B Lewis, 1B Miranda. UT Castro. I'm fine with that if they add a good outfielder so they're not using Julien as the everyday DH.
  16. Emmanuel Rodriguez is supposed to be able to play defense. They'll put up with his numbers against LHP if he can catch the ball. They did with Max Kepler.
  17. And now I'll expand on whether Rosario can actually play defense. Probably not. He has been a below average defender his entire career and appears to be getting worse. He's 12th percentile on Statcast in Fielding Run Value. He can't play SS and is only okay at 2B. He gets good marks for speed and arm and bad marks for actually catching the ball in the outfield. Pluses - makes contact, good baserunning, fast, strong arm Minuses - bad defender, low power, doesn't walk, chases pitches outside the zone The Twins can afford to have a bench player with a below average bat and an excellent glove. That player would complement their starters. I don't see a reason to roster a player who is below average in everything but speed.
  18. Beats using not-ready-for-primetime rookies. If he can actually play defense, then he's a generalist, not a specialist. That's a 4-tool player (field, run, throw, hit for average). I'm not sure who was prevented from playing last season. Pretty much every rookie who truly performed in AAA got a shot. Some who were only okay in AAA got a shot.
  19. If he can play good defense a .670 OPS vs RHP is perfectly acceptable for your utility player.
  20. Padres pick Juan Nunez was one of the pitchers the Twins traded for Jorge Lopez MLB Rule 5 draft results: Analyzing all 15 picks from major-league portion as Mets lose two pitchers - CBSSports.com
