  1. They can't option all of Keirsey, Lee, Julien, Helman and Martin. Right now 4 of the 5 HAVE to make the team or they're playing with just 9 position players on the roster. Even if they decide to give a spot to Emmanuel Rodriguez (who should also probably earn it in AAA) they will need to use 3 of those 5. They need to add an outfielder and an infielder if they want to make people earn their way to the big leagues. Otherwise we will get scholarships for players who haven't earned it. There is also NO depth for the inevitable injuries. If the Twins end up with 3 position players on the IL (which happened in April last year) they will be forced to call up one of Eeles, McCusker or Severino. I know there are prospect fans that want to see all of these guys play, but that's a recipe for a repeat 4th place finish.
  2. To execute on this plan they need to add another OF/DH bat and another infielder. If Lee and Julien don't make the opening day roster they have Michael Helman and Austin Martin as opening day starters.
  3. I agree, which is why I am concerned that Julien is the opening day DH on the current depth chart.
  4. It's based on "I made it up because it supports my opinion"
  5. If you can buy an asset for less than market value you should. Trade the player later if you have to.
  6. If the Twins don't believe in Alcala he could be pretty good trade bait.
  7. With the risk of hijacking the thread, an article about whether to extend Jhoan Duran would be worth reading. He's only controlled until age 29 He's never made any big money either with a signing bonus or through arbitration He's coming off a down year so buying low is a possibility He's not going to get a qualifying offer as a free agent reliever so that isn't a consideration This seems like EXACTLY the right time to give him a contract extension that gets him to age 30 or 31.
  8. The Twins should want their free agents to get big contracts around age 30 so they can give them the qualifying offer and get the draft pick. Ryan fits this scenario perfectly. They shouldn't be giving big money to pitchers in their mid-30s.
  9. Get someone who can catch the ball and move one of their below average fielders to DH.
  10. The defense is the big question mark for Keaschall. He's not a SS but could be anywhere in the OF or the right side of the infield. Is he a good fielder or is he bouncing around because they can't find a spot where he's good like Austin Martin? Is he all bat like Luis Arraez?
  11. Luzardo is lefthanded, throws 96 MPH, and is 1 year removed from a 4 WAR season. One 4 WAR season got Jordan Montgomery 2 years $47M. Lucas Giolito parlayed an absolutely awful walk season into a 2 year $37M contract from the Red Sox. Market value for starting pitching is crazy.
  12. Keaschall looks good. Luzardo would get a multiyear contract as a free agent > $25M per season.
  13. They gave up 1-1/2 expensive years of Berrios for 6 years of SWR. Woods-Richardson's 2024 was better than the full season of Berrios they traded away. The Twins have already won the deal.
  14. It's already an underpay with Keaschall. Julien for Luzardo would be a trade vetoed by a fantasy baseball commissioner. You don't get top lefthanded starting pitchers for a 3rd option at DH.
  15. You may want to tell Fangraphs that he's a top 60 prospect because they don't rate him in their top 100. Jorge Polanco last season cost $12M in salary and returned 4 players including top 150 prospect Gonzalez. Castro is coming off a much more impressive season than Polanco and costs half as much. If other teams aren't valuing 2025 Castro higher than 2024 Polanco then the Twins should be negotiating a contract extension with Castro because he is very undervalued. It is rare that you can get an All-Star infielder for just $6M. The only free agent infielders I would rather have than Castro are Bregman and Gleyber Torres. Willi Castro is a lot better than you are giving him credit for.
  16. Trading away Castro would make the infield really weak this season with a gaping hole at either 2B or 3B, depending on where they play Lewis, but this proposal is a net win for the Twins. The Comp A pick would return in two seasons when the Twins offer Luzardo a QO as a free agent. Nardi for CJ Culpepper is a steal. That means you're trading Keaschall for 2 cheap seasons of Luzardo. They might be able to find a prospect as good as Keaschall in a Castro trade. Miami turns this offer down, flat.
  17. Absolutely nobody thinks Randy Dobnak and Walker Jenkins are the same type of talent. However, if Walker Jenkins says he will sign for Randy Dobnak's miniscule contract they would have to be brain-dead stupid not to give him that deal. I would settle for the team giving long-term contracts to players like Jeffers and Duran who have already proven themselves. This front office has been paralyzed since before the 2024 trade deadline in July.
  18. I disagree that Laureano and Bader are "Margot level players". Margot was a below average outfielder and both of those guys can catch the ball. Bader was a Gold Glove winner and he's still pretty damned good.
  19. The upside for Helman and Keirsey is as well-known as it is for any other 28-year-old professional player. Expectations should be quite low. Martin was already tried once and was terrible. I'm not sure what he did last year that makes people want to depend on him this year.
  20. I would sign just about anyone I could find to avoid relying on Martin, Keirsey and Helman.
  21. Bubic is a lefty, not a great comp. Stroman is 5'7" tall so not a good comp physically and he's a sinker/slider groundball pitcher vs Woods-Richardson's 4-seam/changeup/curveball repertoire. Justin Verlander throws the same pitches as Woods-Richardson (though harder and better). Domingo German also has the same pitch mix. Those are the best comps I can find after searching for 15 minutes. Let's use those as bookends. If his career is somewhere between German and Verlander the Twins should be happy.
  22. Moving Royce to 1B means they have holes at 3B and 2B. Royce isn't a great fielder at 3B, but he's better than Miranda. The only player on the roster I would want to play everyday at 2B besides Royce Lewis is Willi Castro. A Lee, Correa, Keaschall, Lewis infield with Rodriguez in the outfield would be placing a heavy bet on rookies. That's the risk/reward play. Even with those players in those positions they could still use Laureano as the 5th outfielder.
  23. Exciting, young talent Keirsey was born May 13, 1997. He will be 28 next season. Over the hill, decrepit, aging veteran Bader was born June 3, 1994. Keirsey is younger, but not enough to matter. Both players should be considered finished products.
