  1. Sounds like malware
  2. There is no catcher pipeline. They need to make a trade for some other team's prospect. They can't afford to pay retail prices for catchers.
  3. I agree that they need to find some players who can field. They especially need to find a second baseman and an outfielder with a good glove. If they want Castro to be that second baseman then they need to find another utility guy.
  4. A better question is "What will be the ranking of the best free agent the Twins sign?" I doubt they spend more than $5M so I will guess around 80 or so.
  5. If you want to communicate with other people it is important to use the actual definitions of words and not definitions that exist only in your head.
  6. Then it's REALLY stupid to compare catchers based on how many strikeouts their pitchers get. That is measuring the pitchers, not the catchers. Range Factor is a significantly worse way to measure catcher defense than I had imagined. Thanks for the clarification.
  7. Range Factor is an insignificant contributor to catcher defense. Catchers field very few batted balls.
  8. Julien and Kirilloff were NOT rookies last season and neither of them were responsible for September. Kirilloff was out injured and Julien was mostly benched. Martin was in AAA for most of September so he's blameless. Lee was only playing because veteran Kyle Farmer was terrible and veteran Carlos Correa was injured. That leaves Lewis. He wasn't good but I don't think you can blame a collapse that epic on one player, no matter how much you want a scapegoat. Plus, he was being forced into action at 2B on the fly because veteran Kyle Farmer was so terrible.
  9. Reardon over Viola and Power over Killebrew are picks that look really bad in hindsight.
  10. Wallner is from here. Some of the fans are literally related to him.
  11. Margot, Farmer and Vazquez (plus Thielbar, Jackson and Okert) were on this year's team and they all contributed to missing the playoffs. The only rookie in the outfield was Austin Martin and he only played half the season. The infield rookies were Royce Lewis (he was injured half the year) and Brooks Lee (only played 50 games). Woods-Richardson was great in the rotation as a rookie as was Sands in the bullpen. Your narrative does not match the data.
  12. Washed up veterans just cost more than struggling rookies. They don't win you any more games.
  13. Replacing Max Kepler with Austin Martin is a massive downgrade in all aspects. I think I'd rather just use an unfinished Emmanuel Rodriguez on Opening Day. If Texas is selling Leody Tavares, I would be buying. He's a switch-hitter who can play defense at all three outfield positions.
  14. This article made me try to think of any memory I have of Alex Kirilloff. There aren't any. I haven't been able to watch the Twins on TV for his entire major league career. I wouldn't know if he walked up next to me on the street.
  15. So about 80 days until the Twins start making their offseason moves.
  16. USA Today goes to 120. Only Kepler (33) and Santana (38) are ranked.
  17. On offense, Santana was a non-factor except for June. 961 OPS in June and .725 OPS after that month. If you want a .725 OPS and great defense sign a utility infielder.
  18. He was supposedly fully recovered last April from the ligament replacement surgery and didn't pitch the entire season. His average innings pitched over the last 5 seasons is 12. Most likely scenario: He'll start the season in the minors and be injured before he can put up enough innings to evaluate whether he's worth keeping.
  19. Is Hye-Seong Kim more Kaz Matsui or Tsuyoshi Nishioka?
  20. How many years in a row of not pitching does it take to "tank"? He's pitched 60 innings over the last 5 seasons.
  21. I can think of one: He's always injured and unavailable to pitch. At some point you cut bait on that.
  22. If nobody else in MLB wants to give a player a 40-man roster spot then there is no reason for the Twins to give them a 40-man roster spot. Players are kept on the roster to make sure they can't go elsewhere. Thielbar is off the roster. He's a free agent. Varland still has one option remaining (Winder was out of options) and showed potential as a reliever in 2023.
  23. I think Lewis would be a better fit at 2B than Lee but I don't think he wants to play there. He's better defensively at 3B. Castro is more athletic than either of them (throws harder, runs faster, better lateral range). The Twins have a lot of guys who can play 3B (Castro, Lewis, Lee, Miranda). Trading one of them to balance the roster is probably a better idea than trying to play them all out of position. Castro is the only one on that list I would want playing 2B or the OF. For 2025 I would go Lewis at 3B and Miranda at 1B in MLB. I would play Lee at 3B and Julien at 1B in AAA. I would find another 2B and a plus defensive outfielder. Second basemen are the cheapest spot to fill in free agency or trade.
  24. There are so many teams that are looking to reduce payroll due to the Diamond Sports bust that I would expect a 10% or greater decrease in the average $$/WAR for free agents.
