  1. They need a RH outfield bat who can field the ball (not Martin or Margot). That could be Willi Castro but then they need to find a 2B. I floated bringing back Polanco for < $5M on a different thread. Castro won't be non-tendered. He has more trade value than Polanco did last season (costs half as much, plays more positions competently, more team control, younger).
  2. It's a net loss to the league revenue but the Twins are in the same situation as 16-20 other teams. The Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers will be able to use their revenue advantage to get the top players but the Twins should be on a level playing field with the rest of the league.
  3. I agree that this trade as proposed is weighted too heavily toward the Twins. If a team can trade a reliever for a top 30 prospect they should do that every time (think how irritated you would be if the Twins traded Emmanuel Rodriguez for a relief pitcher). Then you subtract the negative value of Vazquez and add another good pitching prospect for the Twins. If they can get the Cubs to offer this much they should agree quickly.
  4. 50% of broadcast revenue is shared. It's a huge win for baseball fans. Instead of $1000/year it's $100/year to watch the team. It will take a few years for the free agent market to adjust but the best players will still make tens of millions.
  5. Ricardo Olivar is probably the top catching prospect. He has questions about his glove and has only spent 19 games in AA.

Bill James doesn't look like he knows anything about baseball. Aaron Gleeman really doesn't look like he knows anything about baseball.
  7. They should trade Vazquez because small market teams should always trade old and expensive for younger and cheaper. They won't get anyone to take on all $10M of the contract. My guess is the other team would want the Twins to eat $8M (or take on $8M worth of their bad contracts). For $2M the Twins won't find anyone better than Vazquez on the free agent market. At best this is a sideways move.
  8. Deserving of the Hall of Fame. I felt bad when Kaat was announced and not Tiant.
  9. Your article perfectly illustrates why Correa is the 2024 team MVP. He was their best player, he had a great season when he was available, and the team fell apart when he wasn't available. Without Correa, they would never have been close to the playoffs.
  10. Lee starts the season in AAA working on his game until the inevitable injury. Switch-hitting Polanco means you don't have to have a platoon caddy for him. He had a bad season but recovered pretty well (.740 OPS 2nd half). Castro's playing time gets more heavily weighted to corner OF with Larnach or Wallner getting the DH spot. They need a RH or switch hitting OF who can field. Profar or Santander will cost too much but they already have Castro on the roster. They have Keirsey to backup Buxton so Castro doesn't get overexposed in CF. Second basemen are typically cheaper to add in free agency than corner OF. Kirilloff, Julien, Martin, Keirsey and Helman (all optionable) fight it out for the last couple slots with some likely waiver wire pickups.
  11. I would rather bet on 27-year-old Jose Miranda than 37-year-old Paul Goldschmidt. I keep wondering just how cheaply they could bring back Jorge Polanco. Seattle is going to buy out his option. For less than $5M, I will take my chances with 31-year-old Jorge Polanco as my free agent acquisition.
  12. Lee has been asked to play three positions while adjusting two swings to major league pitching. It is unrealistic to think that he will find success after a few games.
  13. It is weird to have an author say "This player is clearly not the best choice but I'm going to make the case for him anyway." What is the point of that article? Are we going to get a similar article for everyone on the team? If so, I'll opt out of engaging in the "Making the Case for Ronny Henriquez as 2024 Twins MVP" article.
  14. It will be hard to dump salary with 16 teams looking at unsettled TV money. One suggestion I had for trading Paddack was to find a team who needs to use him as a starter and deal him for a veteran reliever on that team who makes half his salary. That is a better use of resources than putting Paddack in the bullpen. Veteran for slightly cheaper veteran will get them under the $130M and could get them the players they need to fill the holes on the roster.
  15. They need defense as much as they need offense. Better defense improves the rotation AND the bullpen. I am with you regarding no specialists. They can't have bench players who are lousy at defense and only hit lefthanded pitching well. Rocco will pinch hit for his LH starter in the 3rd inning and the hitting and defense will suffer for the rest of the game.
  16. He's not the MVP. You successfully contradicted your entire article.
  17. This team was 82-80 and just missed the playoffs despite losing Correa and Ryan for months. I know they were bad in September but they were also really good in June.
  18. Every plate appearance Castro took away from Margot, Martin and Julien made the team better defensively. Keeping Miranda away from 3B makes the team better defensively. Buxton and Correa missed large chunks of the season. Without Castro they could have had the worst defense other than the White Sox.
  19. You're wrong. The throw from LF to 3B is much shorter than the throw from RF. If you want to keep baserunners from going first to third you need the arm in RF. Why do you think Shannon Stewart played LF?
  20. Wallner will be in RF. He has a plus arm and the small RF at Target Field should compensate for his issues with range. Larnach is a decent fielding LF when he isn't hobbled with turf toe. Rodriguez has barely seen AAA and Jenkins has barely seen AA. Neither is an option at the start of the season.
  21. What is the point of a rebuild? Tear it all down, watch the team come one starting pitcher, two relievers and one bat away from contention (where they are currently) and tear it all down again? A recurring cycle of half-trying followed by a stretch where they aren't trying at all?
  22. Irvin is a free agent. >3 years of service time and not on the 40 man roster.
