I think the problem is they have already fallen too far down the slippery slope. They are overlooking literally dozens of better starting pitchers to induct fairly successful relief pitchers. I want the ceremonies honoring guys like David Cone, Kevin Brown, Dave Stieb, Bret Saberhagen and Johan Santana instead. Billy Wagner is a pathetic joke of a candidate compared to Johan Santana. I would vote for Roy Oswalt, Mark Buehrle, Tim Hudson, Felix Hernandez and Kevin Appier before I would vote for Billy Wagner.

It's just 6 years. The extra 12 years of high performance for Rivera matter a LOT. I am not a fan of electing relievers. My list of Hall-worthy relievers is Wilhelm, Gossage and Rivera. Eck and Smoltz get in because they were also excellent starting pitchers. If you're not better than Gossage then I'm not interested.

Ramon Laureano would be a fit in the outfield.
-
Austin Hays non-tendered. He could be a fit as a RH corner outfielder.

Because $1.3MM is chicken feed when the minimum is $760k. I like Topa as a reclamation project better than Josh Staumont or Jay Jackson. It's a low risk bet with a medium reward payout.

Topa has options. He doesn't have to take up any room on the 26-man roster. The bullpen will have Henriquez, Stewart and Tonkin as pitchers without options. They can stash Topa in AAA until the first injury.

The roster as-is doesn't have a starter at 2B/3B (depending on where they play Royce Lewis) or a 4th OF. They need Castro more in 2025 than they did in 2024.

717 OPS is good for a 102 OPS+. He had a 105 OPS+ the season before. He has an average bat and plays above average defense at 2B, 3B, LF. He gets labeled as a utility infielder but he's an everyday player for the Twins, clearly one of their best 9. He was named the team MVP for 2024 and made the All-Star team. If they can't afford that for $6M then they have completely mismanaged their budget. He has more than $6M worth of value to 20 of the 30 teams in MLB. It is a no-brainer to tender Willi Castro.

Are Trevor Larnach And Matt Wallner Redundent?
DJL44 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Me neither. Are Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis redundant? They both hit righthanded and play infield. -
I thought this article was going to be about 4 players on other teams who could be non-tendered today but might help the Twins. That would be a much more interesting article.

You cannot find players cheaper than Headrick or Henriquez. If they find someone better, they can release them at that moment without costing the team a dime. If Headrick spends the season in the minors the Twins pay him around $115,000. The only reason to cut any of these guys is you have someone else you like better for the roster spot. The Twins have open roster spots at the moment.

The Path to an Elite Minnesota Twins Bullpen in 2025

Unless they use Jax as a starter, in which case they definitely need to trade Paddack.- 47 replies

They didn't throw Miranda away. They sent him to AAA and made him earn his way back. If you want to give scholarships to AAA players you will be mostly disappointed. They don't need an All-Star veteran, they need an adequate placeholder. Bringing back Carlos Santana and moving Miranda to 3B would work.

Yes, if they have no catcher in the high minors on their 40-man roster that means their system is pretty weak for catchers (or that catcher isn't Rule 5 eligible yet). The Twins have Camargo, but they like him so much they nailed him to the bench when he came up to the majors. Catcher depth is a real problem in MLB.

The Path to an Elite Minnesota Twins Bullpen in 2025
DJL44 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't want a bullpen full of 8 high fastball / low slider guys with the same release point. The article on Tonkin showed why an east-west look is valuable to have. A LHP can be a weapon if used correctly. If everyone has the same pitch mix, then there is no leverage.- 47 replies

I wish the Twins had someone like that in the minors. That doesn't describe anyone above rookie ball.

The current MLB depth chart has Brooks Lee as a starter and Eddie Julien, Michael Helman and Austin Martin as backups. They need another outfielder and another infielder. All of those guys should start the season in AAA.

If your system doesn't have any catchers worth protecting in the high minors, then it's pretty weak for catchers. I don't know if they have anyone who projects as a big-league catcher.

None of them is worth carrying as a backup catcher on an MLB roster in 2025.
