  1. If they keep Rooker then maybe they don't have room to add Willi Castro. Maybe Larnach gets cut instead. There are ripple effects. and you're always balancing winning now with winning later.
  2. Brent Headrick, Travis Adams, Christian MacLeod. They need to send Dobnak down to Double-A to give these guys innings.
  3. Randy Dobnak and Cole Irvin were both available on waivers last season. Dasan Hill has a lot more upside than "an up and down arm". If the ceiling is "barely a major leaguer" then the floor doesn't matter.
  4. What does he need to work on to be successful? Location. He's a junkball pitcher so he needs to be able to pitch strikes while avoiding the middle of the strike zone. I don't know how that translates into being a top 10 prospect. That's freely available on the waiver wire.
  5. That is the key, though I don't ever expect Jax to go 7 innings. If he moves to the rotation, he will be a 5-inning pitcher for the first season.
  6. If Jax moves to the rotation you have Duran, Alcala, Sands, Stewart/Topa (you'll get a half season out of each) Mike Tonkin Ronny Henriquez (he's out of options so they'll keep him all season) Two slots for unproven rookies and pitchers other teams didn't want.
  7. The key for 2025 is how much better he is than rookie Festa or sophomore Woods-Richardson. If Jax can provide as much value in the rotation as he did in the bullpen AND either of those pitchers would provide 0 WAR, then it's a good move. If Festa and Woods-Richardson would be fine in the 4-5 slots OR Jax can't pitch to a 4.20 RA9 (or better) in the rotation, then it's going to be a downgrade for the team in the short term. In the long-term, if they can convert Jax to a decent starter they can trade him off for a much bigger haul at the trade deadline or next offseason.
  8. Winder had shoulder injuries and struggled to pitch as well out of the stretch as he did with a windup. He was terrible at holding baserunners. Severino has a decent enough bat, but his glove limited him to 1B/DH. If he could play 3B or 2B he'd still be in the system.
  9. Pitchers who should be top 30 prospects who you haven't mentioned yet Charlee Soto, Andrew Morris, Marco Raya, Adrian Bohorquez, Cory Lewis, Travis Adams Players in the top 10 you haven't mentioned yet: Emmanuel Rodriguez, Walker Jenkins, Luke Keaschall, Kaelen Culpepper. Looks like Bohorquez got overlooked.
  10. Bad defense and baserunning really limits his upside. He's going to need to hit like Josh Willingham.
  11. Last time we saw Canterino he was walking nearly 6 batters per 9 innings in Double-A. He's never pitched in AAA. I would recommend he start there to pitch with the automated strike zone.
  12. Even if a pitcher profiles as a reliever long-term I want him starting in the minors to get more innings. Maybe they only go 3 innings per start (like Raya) for 90-100 innings a year. That's more than the 60 innings they would get as a minor league reliever.
  13. It totally changes the location on your breaking ball if you throw it 2 MPH faster. It takes repetitions to refine command.
  14. I am ready to cut bait on Canterino and acquire a pitcher who can actually play baseball. Before people pencil in Varland for two-inning stints they should make sure he can pitch effectively in a one-inning role. I'm fine with letting Prielipp begin the season in the minors as a starter. He's not going directly to MLB. If he's doing well in Double-A, then I would have no problem moving him to the major league bullpen for the last half of the season.
  15. Correa is the short and medium-term SS for the Twins. Long-term isn't usually worth planning for in baseball except "acquire as much young talent as you can".
  16. I think he might return more at the deadline. His positional flexibility means just about every contender would have a spot for him on their roster. Half his salary will be paid down so he will fit into every team's budget. It has been a seller's market the past few trade deadlines. That's not a big gap and Castro's speed closes that gap. There isn't anyone on the Twins 40-man roster with his mix of speed and defense. Brooks Lee is versatile but slow. Austin Martin has speed but can't field. You can piece together his contribution from 6 different players but that would take up 6 roster spots which means you can't actually replace him in aggregate. I would be open to trading Castro but I would want more than the Twins got for Polanco. He's a better player and costs half as much.
  17. Would you say no to Jax to Boston for Teel?
  18. I think the Yankees field is still being considered. There might not be any appetite to spend hundreds of millions on a baseball stadium in the Tampa Bay region. The hurricane caused billions of dollars in damages. The reasonable long-term move for MLB is one team in Orlando. Tampa Bay is going to keep getting hammered by hurricanes and most of Miami is going to be underwater in 40 years. If the St. Pete council votes down funding a stadium we may see the Omaha Rays.
  19. Plus, he hasn't hit well enough to earn a callup to AAA. If he was ready for AAA, he'd have an OPS well over 1000 in the AFL.
  20. Not a good idea. Prielipp is the pitcher you want to face the best lefthanded hitters. Making him an opener would take away his leverage and let the opposing team stack the lineup with RH hitters.
  21. I agree, he's stalled out. For prospects it's improve or go home and he's not getting better very quickly. I don't see a reason to add him to the 40-man roster to protect him because I don't see a team wanting to play with a 25-man roster for an entire season.
  22. If you think of ranking prospects in terms of "I would trade this guy for that guy" then Dasan Hill should he higher. I would trade Rosario or DeBarge for another Dasan Hill in a heartbeat.
  23. I agree that the deadline might be the best time to move him. If you are a believer in sell high, buy low then selling high on Jax isn't a bad idea.
