    I have said on more than one occasion that Lewis is the Lynchpin. I know they said he would not play the OF in 23 but we were talking about 2024 and he fits best on this team as an OFer or Super Utility given the depth of INfers and Buxton's propensity for injury. They have Lee / Miranda / Severino and Proto as potential 3B replacements. We are almost as deep at 3B as we are 2B. They only have Castro and Lewis as potential RH or switch hitting OFers, and Lewis offers a more legit start CF option. Lewis could play every day between CF/LF/3B/SS. Just my opinion but It would see to be a lot easier to maximize the personnel we have and match-ups if Lewis is used as an OFer or Super Utility. If there was a pool for when Lee is called up, I would take a June Date.

    According to Statcast, Arraez is even worse at 2B. Julien is in the 18th percentile for OAA and Arraez in the 2nd percentile. Why would it be better to have Arraez "entrenched" as our 2B? One could argue that we replaced Arraez with an equivalent player and gained a very good starting pitcher.

    Why limit the choices to current SPs? How about a lefty starter like Jordan Montgomery. Blake Snell is having a great year too. I have not been on the Snell bandwagon, but he has been very good this year.

    Other than Lewis, I don't see youth filling any more holes this year unless there are a significant number of injuries. The INF will be Kirilloff / Julien / Lewis and Correa. The OF will be Kepler / MAT / Wallner. The September call up for position players will be Prato or Severino. Next year .... Move Lewis to the OF and 3B is a competition between Lee / Miranda /Prato and Severino. The OF is Kepler / Wallner / Lewis and Buxton. Castro is the only certain bench player. Farmer probably stays but there are 2-3 bench roles between Farmer / Gordon / Martin / Prato / Severino and maybe even Hellman.

    What Mike said. I would add that I have never seen him play 1B nor do I have access to all the coaches providing feedback. Other factors like where they think Lewis and Lee end up also come into play. No doubt, this will be a factor. Lewis to the OF where they need help much more so than the IF would change things substantially. I also don’t develop players for a living. With all of this in mind, it would be naïve for me to believe I have a better understanding of where Julien should play than Twin’s management so all I can do is speculate knowing I don't know enough. An IF of Kirilloff / Julien / Lee and Correa with an OF of Lewis / Wallner / Buxton and Jeffers catching looks pretty good to me.

    If Julien is healthy, I would take an even money bet that he gets the most innings at 2B of anyone on the team in 2024.

    He played 180 Innings at 1B in the minors so it's a safe bet they also worked him out at 1B on numerous occasions. Anyone who has seen him play anywhere knows he has stone hands and bad footwork. Yet, somehow people who have not seen him play 1B are astonished the Twins are not playing him there. He is bad at 2B and we have several 2B options and we need 1B depth. It's pretty obvious the organization has tested this option and concluded it will not work, at least not in season. Maybe they have him take throws and work on his footwork at 1B over the winter.

    Why would you want to "get out from under" Kepler and Pagan right now. especially Kepler? We should put Buxton in to be an automatic out because he is here long-term and get rid of Kepler who is playing great on both sides of the ball?

    The average paid in free agency is roughly $9M per 1 WAR. That does not reflect worth. It reflects cost. It's the average production per dollar spent which reflects the crapshoot that is free agency. (See Carlos Correa) We expected more. Paying $10M/WAR is a recipe for failure especially for any team with similar revenue to the Twins. Teams don't pay a 6 WAR player $60M/year. They pay them $30M/year. A high percentage of them fail making the average cost much higher than the signing team expected.

    The better question is how do they convince another team to trade for him the way he is going now.

    September? Only if it's a product of injuries. He is not taking MAT's spot or 2B from Julien or LF from Wallner. I am also not so sure he is ready right at the moment but I still believe he could contribute significantly at some point. I sure hope so because we could use more dynamic athletes that can get on base and then run the bases. He will be fun to watch.

    As you well know, any hope of sustained success for this team is developing prospects. The previous core was going nowhere and future success will be a product of how far Jeffers / Kirilloff / Lewis / Julien / Lee / Wallner and those yet to come can take us. Hopefully, a couple more from the group of Martin / Severino / Rodriquez / Prato, etc help starting next year and Jenkins / Winokur, etc can support that core group 3-4 years down the road. Lacking interest or respect for the importance of prospects requires an exceptional lack of awareness of how winning teams are being built. I will continue to watch closely and cheer on players like Martin to reach their potential. I don't see him contributing to 2023 but hopefully he is part of 24.

    He has definitely been optioned in each of the last 3 years. Larnach Transactions I think he gets traded this off-season if they plan to move Lewis to the OF.

    I was watching thinking the same exact thing. Could not believe they passed on Carroll who had 70 grade speed and a 60 hit tool. I have been bitching about it for 4 years.

    I think Castro's spot is the most secure of any bench/role players. However, he and Gordon could certainly co-exist. Salano and MAT are free agents and I don't see either one being retained. They have Castro / Martin / Gordon and Kiersey Jr as CF back-ups and several replacements for Solano. IDK how this plays out between all these prospects but we should have great depth for the next several years.

    I don't understand the continued call for him a 1B because he really does have terrible hands and foot work. Severino has become the guy I am hoping they can teach to play 1B but IDK that he has the right tools either. My thought is he becomes more useful if he can cover 1B/3B/DH.

    Farmer is an ARB 3? So, they could non-tender him but he has trade value. I think there is at least a 50% chance they keep him. I just don't think it's a lock. Maybe he is in the eyes of the FO but the guys at AAA are making noise. I think Lee will figure it out as well. I am not on the "rookie of year" level bus. He has been very good, not elite. He will be competing against higher ranked / more accomplished prospects. Polanco has been one of my favorite twins but I think he gets traded if they get a reasonable offer. He does not look good at 3B and he is not taking 2B back from Julien.

    I am not inclined to call Lee or Farmer Locks. Lee will need to be very impressive at AAA given there are only 39 games remaining and he is started out very poorly. There is just no need to be in a hurry given the number of options. I think the odds are actually low that Lee breaks camp if Lewis remains at 3B. Farmer has been a good bench player but some of the guys waiting in the wings have more upside and they are cheaper. A lot will depend on if Prato or Severino get some playing time at the ML level.

    Can't wait to see how it shakes out will all these position players over the remainder of this year and then how the roster is constructed next year. Lewis has a full-time spot for sure. How will this shake out for the rest. Could Prato or Severino get a shot before Lee? Where do Prato and Severino play defensively? The lynchpin is where they play Lewis. If ends up in the OF two-thirds of the time he plays, that opens up 3rd base for a competition between Miranda / Lee / Prato and Severino. So, what does that do to the bench next year. I see some combination of Castro / Gordon / Prato / Martin / Larnach / Miranda / Severino and perhaps Kiersey. It may not be a certainty they bring Farmer back with all these options. Somebody needs to learn to play 1B.

    90+ percent chance they pick-up Kepler's option unless he really falls off the rest of the way. 80+ percent chance he is a Minnesota Twin in 24. We just don't have much depth. Polanco is a different story. 2;1 he is not a Minnesota Twin. We have enough options that it's not a huge risk letting him go. I think there is a good chance they exercise the option because there is decent chance he has trade value. The 2nd year option reduces risk so I can see him bringing something back. I hope he is good the rest of the season and gets us a nice prospect. A AA RH hitting OFer or a catcher would be great. We can feel pretty good about the future INF with Kirilloff / Julien / Correa / Lee / Castro / Farmer and maybe Miranda / Prato or Severino. I hope Lewis ends up in the OF but who knows things could change where it makes sense to have him in the IF.
