Dobnak and Smeltzer. Even if the FO swings a trade or signs Ryu, both Dobnak and Smeltzer will each get 10-20 starts at minimum. Injuries will happen, and Pineda is missing the first 39 games or something. With Berrios and Pineda under contract for 2021, both of those two need to take control of the middle of the rotation.

Agreed, I don't think it was money that deterred the FO. It may be also that Doogie might have over reacted a bit to his source telling him they were in on Yamaguchi.

Pittsburgh has a new manager and pitching coach. Wouldn't they want to see what Oscar Marin can do with him before cutting bait? I'm guessing the return will be higher than anticipated, being Pittsburgh gave up a ton to get Archer. -
can u-haul unload a bunch of that real estate for a good price and not take a massive tax hit? They have a terrible liquidity crunch on their hands... If they can squeeze through that itty-bitty window, and start flowing cash again there’s still a question of growth. Looking at the adjacent housing market, is now the time to exit self storage? Mortgage interest rates can only climb from here. Home prices are sky high and still climbing. With a decade of growth since the Great Recession, are moves as a result of home buying going to grow? I’m skeptical. If you can’t move to a bigger house, you need somewhere to store all your stuff. But self storage is a cash hog and saturated. I’m not buying it. I’m no investment pro, I’m sure they know things I don’t, but I just don’t get it. I’m not buying that recommendation

With Odorizzi on the QO and Pineda on a two year deal, you’ve only got Berrios and Pineda for 2021. Development is not linear, so having more pitchers would help alleviate my anxiety... Alcantara as your 5th starter in ‘20 gives a ton of upside and depth with Dobnak in AAA. We all saw how thin a rotation can get as the season wears on.

So the floor for the ‘20 rotation is (providing health) the ‘19 rotation which was top 10. I’m very ok with that and will be very pleased if the FO can acquire a front of the rotation starter to move back Berrios, Odorizzi and Pineda a slot.

I’m gen x, and I really identify with the OP. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xczb7GeQwdAI am doing the stupid dad jokes, backing into parking spots (when practical) and trying to figure out how to work in a Kyle Gibson debate with a coworker even though Gibson’s not a twin. I’m a bit despondent. What the hell am I going to do with myself all winter?

with this, the playoff baseball was more “dead” than the regular season. The Twins built a team with good to great outfielders for a live ball carrying to the outfield. Injuries derailed this, but the infield was also built for the live ball. If more balls carry to the outfield, shifts can overcome your infield deficiencies. Fewer chances on infield plays can mitigate... With a potential dead ball for ‘20, infield defense could regain priority.

My first reaction w/ Pineda is let this play out. There won’t be a market for him w/ suspension and he can be a cheap fallback option. I didn’t think there would be a market for Gibson and here he is, signed w/ the Rangers for 3/30 in November. Looking back at Gibson, my instincts might not be very good. Pineda would be a very nice floor on a 4th or 5th starter. Might not be bad to lock that up while going after bigger fish that might not land until Feb or March.

If you are going to trade Sano, trade him while he's still considered a third baseman and has two years left. It would leave a massive gap in the lineup and I have my doubts that he's worth much of anything in the ways of major league starting pitching, and wouldn't trade hiim. Personally I think, if you can't sign Donaldson, Moustakas, or trade for Bryant - leave Sano at 3rd primarily, sign Brock Holt, and rotate Marwin, Miguel and Brock through the corner IFs.
