  1. 2014 Phil Hughes Threw 209 innings, struck out 186 and walked 16. 11.63 strike out to walk ratio. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2210967-twins-phil-hughes-sets-mlb-record-for-strikeout-to-walk-ratio-in-a-season Lance Lynn was poor for the Twins, however was fantastic for the Rangers https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/8/13/20803129/lance-lynn-texas-rangers-american-league-cy-young-leader Joe Mauer was an extension but still 184 mil. It is false that the Twins don’t sign high end free agents.
  2. I’ve been heave-laughing the whole thread. Oh man... that is too funny
  3. I’m gen x, and I really identify with the OP. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xczb7GeQwdAI am doing the stupid dad jokes, backing into parking spots (when practical) and trying to figure out how to work in a Kyle Gibson debate with a coworker even though Gibson’s not a twin. I’m a bit despondent. What the hell am I going to do with myself all winter?
  4. with this, the playoff baseball was more “dead” than the regular season. The Twins built a team with good to great outfielders for a live ball carrying to the outfield. Injuries derailed this, but the infield was also built for the live ball. If more balls carry to the outfield, shifts can overcome your infield deficiencies. Fewer chances on infield plays can mitigate... With a potential dead ball for ‘20, infield defense could regain priority.
  5. My first reaction w/ Pineda is let this play out. There won’t be a market for him w/ suspension and he can be a cheap fallback option. I didn’t think there would be a market for Gibson and here he is, signed w/ the Rangers for 3/30 in November. Looking back at Gibson, my instincts might not be very good. Pineda would be a very nice floor on a 4th or 5th starter. Might not be bad to lock that up while going after bigger fish that might not land until Feb or March.
  6. If you are going to trade Sano, trade him while he's still considered a third baseman and has two years left. It would leave a massive gap in the lineup and I have my doubts that he's worth much of anything in the ways of major league starting pitching, and wouldn't trade hiim. Personally I think, if you can't sign Donaldson, Moustakas, or trade for Bryant - leave Sano at 3rd primarily, sign Brock Holt, and rotate Marwin, Miguel and Brock through the corner IFs.
  7. Per Doogoe: Twins kicking the tires on 3B https://mobile.twitter.com/DWolfsonKSTP/status/1198658195394310146 I think Donaldson would be great, if his signing didnt stop them from a big starting pitcher acquisition.
  8. I second John’s question and follow it up with: How’s his mobility another year removed from having a metal rod inserted into his leg and his foot more fully healed? Sure, he may never be a plus defender at third, but with better health, maybe he can be good enough.
  9. Better call Mama! Time for more Gellner in the booth! I am with you on the Morneau/Gellner combo on the TV broadcast. Her calls on those games we’re great! I have two follow ups that weren’t exactly approached, but I think are relevant. 1) In a sport that is dropping in viewership and ticket sales, how can the MLB not prioritize the market opportunity to capture a larger portion of 50% of the human race? Tapping into women as a market segment has massive dollars out there just waiting to be taken advantage of. 2) reading this series of articles and internalizing the message, I come to my own role. Men as advocates. Of course women don’t “need” our voice, but when we raise our voices together we can bring a spot light to injustice. Thank you TCAnelle for your excellent works!
  10. It’s good to see the team begin taking steps in the right direction, but I wish it would be faster. Innovation is spurred by diverse points of view. Time to increase the talent pool.
  11. Great article! I can’t wait for part 2 and 3. I was not aware of this program. I hope when my daughter gets old enough, the Twins still do this program and she might be fortunate enough to do the same.
  12. We moderate as a team here at TD, and strive for consistency where ever possible. as long as we discuss the OP and adhere to the comment policy by first and foremost respectful of each other, I think the mod team may be inclined to let this thread continue. Please note, discussing moderation in a baseball thread is considered thread jacking. Keep to the OP. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy/?do=findComment&comment=420912
  13. I would value Duran more. Rooker? Probably not. Corner outfielders are more fungible than 4th starters.
  14. a reminder to the poster and to the forum. knock it off. Keep to OP
  15. This type of move (and a very good target) I would very much prefer over going after Hamels. The back end of your rotation should be players with upside. Good OP!
  16. Mod note: We’ve already had several debates around Eddie Rosario. In this thread have already been a couple of pet subjects carried over from other threads. Please keep this thread to subject of the OP. How does the delta between metrics used by the FO and the metrics used by the arbitrators impact decisions made in regards to Eddie Rosario?
  17. the Twins have to find at minimum 3 starting pitchers who are currently not on the roster, and preferably 4. Odorizzi and Gibson are both options, but neither of which are currently signed https://mobile.twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1195023702955479047?s=20 . The FO can’t ignore second and third tier starters because they only want the top tier. The players need to come in non-sequential. If you get Odo on the qualifier (not done yet) and Gibby on a 1 year cheap deal, that’s a good floor to build on as you go after the harder fish to catch.
  18. I wonder if the broad interest in Gibson is to Pineda him. Sign him cheap to a 1 year plus (team friendly) option, and hope he regains his strength/mojo. If there are 4 better starters than Gibby including an additional front of rotation type, I'm very OK with taking a flyer on him.
  19. He said he wanted to come back to the Twins https://www.skornorth.com/twins-2/2019/10/wetmore-should-the-twins-try-to-bring-back-jake-odorizzi/
  20. agreed, I’d add Blankenhorn. He’s getting close and this org is very thin at 3B.
