  1. I think the change is to break the opposite way as his slider (and maybe curve, we’ll find out) to pitch effectively against lefties. Whatever that breaking pitch we saw this year was, it was a very good pitch.
  2. I’d think Kiriloff is destined for left field, hopefully 2020 sept call up and a fixture 2121 onward.
  3. yeah, looking back... I was way wrong...
  4. Who thinks that Falvey’s quote http://twinsdaily.com/topic/35221-falvey-were-going-to-target-impact-pitching/ is directly related?
  5. it takes a lot of people to run a factory supply chain. Engineer/Lab, Quality, supply chain, sourcing, logistics. Those factories probably make more than just MLB and MiLB balls too. Retail, college, high school, softballs. Materials from all over the world.... Even a slight change in the ball would require dozens of people to be involved. Most of them unaware of the aerodynamic properties of a baseball in flight. However with leather being sourced from most likely China but manufacturing in Costa Rica, you could maybe do a production experiment to get balls for the post season if you started in April. 6 months is very fast for a change like that in an experimental fashion, but not impossible. It would be very expensive. This is all to say, Falvine knew of the new baseball for 2019 this time last year. At that point manufacturing for many or all of 2019 was already done. This new change was probably already in the works even then.
  6. I think starting Odorizzi in the band box is a waste. Further, you need to win both home games, because it’s always long odds winning in NY. They needed to win game 1, and Rocco managed to save the bullpen for game 2. I think that was a mistake. They were tied and left their best relievers on the bench
  7. heck yeah! I loved the first 3 seasons, really excited for the 4th
  8. I share your optimism, but maybe not game 1. He’ll absolutely get carried on the DS roster and my guess game 3.
  9. it was a pop up on the pitchers mound, the exact same situation could have happened if Arraez were playing 2nd and Astudillo played C
  10. he’s been a starter, and will be one again. He’s not stretched out right now. There’s not enough time to get him stretched out to 80-100 pitches, so if he’s a “starter” he’s an “opener”. Now I would absolutely be in favor of him getting the first 6 outs or so and having Smeltzer or Thorpe take over.
  11. a 3.35 FIP suggests “he’s not as good” as 2.01 ml era, but PTC pitchers that hang around tend to have a better ERA than FIP or they don’t last. 3.35 FIP is pretty good on its own merit. Perez at 4.64 or Gibson’s out of gas 4.34 FIP. Smeltzer 4.92 but has looked stronger in the vision test. My other choice as a starter for the DS is Lewis Thorpe 3.64 FIP. I agree w/the OP that Dobnak/Thorpe makes the most sense for Game 2.
  12. Sometimes you gotta sit through a show to appease your spouse. This was that show for me until Jeremy Bearimy. Holy cow I laughed til I cried!
  13. I was right next to the camera well above the press box. I was tempted to start off a “Ric Flair Woo” to get twinsporto’s blood pressure worked up, but I was too wrapped up in May’s performance to time the lull in the volume/crowd noise right Agreed, 100% the crowd was great!
  14. is Marwin your starting RF? I think you need to plan on carrying one more position player (Wade or Astudillo) until Cron and Kepler prove healthy. Agreed on the “as many pitchers as possible” concept. Even games with a solid start will be more or less bullpen games.
  15. Today was a good template for the Division Series. Smeltzer/Littell is a darn good combo to start the game
  16. The best starting rotation in baseball, the Cleveland Indians, get 5.76 innings per start, to the Twins 6th most 5.55. Acquiring two starters in one offseason who are mid rotation or better in one offseason is a very difficult task. This particular ask of 22% more starting pitcher innings than the best rotation in baseball isn’t feasible.
  17. Oof brutal.... hopefully a strong recovery in the offseason and Buck hits the ground running in the spring
  18. I mostly agree with you but, going back and reading LA Vikes and Glunn affirms this for me. Pineda’s intent isn’t clear, reading several times previously including Glunn’s shared article https://www.goodrx.com/blog/common-prescription-medications-found-in-dietary-supplements/ that supplements are notoriously not very well regulated. My previous job was in food distribution and we never ever handled supplements to avoid risk to our certifications. As I said above, it’s not clear what Pineda’s intent was on taking some particular substance. There’s been speculation that he took diet pills to lose weight, but we don’t know that. He may have thought he was taking a daily multivitamin for all we know. What we do know is he made a case for his intent in taking that substance that contained a banned diuretic that it was not to hide PEDs. Make no mistake, I’m mad at him for taking that substance. I’m not ready to label him a PED user because he made the case of intent with the Arbitrator.
  19. Congratulations Nick! Well said, I could quibble with your assessment of Gibson’s stuff, but agree with the sentiment that he is better than he’s been lately. I’m optimistic for the outlook on the rest of the season and look forward to the post season!
  20. the diuretic Pineda used is on the banned list. There’s never been a single dispute that he didn’t earn his suspension. The reasons for the ban are well documented and reasoned. I’m still not willing to condemn the man as a PED user because of the information LAVikesfan and Glunn brought up. It’s very possible he never intended to ingest that diuretic. It doesn’t excuse that he did ingest it, just reasonable doubt on a much more heinous crime.
  21. Pineda had 4 more starts left. Their post season chances are not solely tied to 20% of the games remaining.
  22. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-roster-rules-eligibilityThey are still a possibility via petition
