    The bottom line is the fact we did not make the playoffs. No matter where anyone ranks in various statistics the team record at the end of the year is what counts. Clutch hitting, clutch pitching. It comes down to having the talent to match the situation and a manager who knows how to use his talent in the right way. I have no blame for the rookies - they actually did quite well, but we needed the veterans to bring the season to a successful conclusion and that includes the BP. How many pitchers did we use - 34 according to Baseball Reference. Ten had eras of 3 and under - that included Wallner (I think he could be a pitcher) and Castro. It also includes the recently released Winder. And no starters. If we go to a 4 era there are 18 pitchers - of the additional 8 Ober is a SP at the top of the list (18) and Ryan is 14. Pushing our ERA to 4.5 there are 22 so we add four including SWR, (20) and Lopez (19). Going to a 5 ERA we get Festa, Paddock and Boushley. That means we have 10 pitchers with an ERA over 5. Looking at this I cannot see the Twins staff ranking higher than our place in the standings where we had the 17th best record out of 30.

    I appreciate the article. I was one who thought we never gave him enough opportunity. I always love it when a former prospect makes it big with another team, another opportunity. But it also points out that our minor league development might not be the best. Now I am rooting for Steer and Encarnacion-strand to blossom like Rooker and Gil

    I went to trades and rumors to see what was happening on the FA market and was surprised that there was no mention of Farmer signing with the Rockies. I know that he was a FA and we declined to sign him, but I still am interested in where our former Twins go.

    If he insists we have to try him as a SP. But with a BP as valuable as they have become this potentially weakens both the BP and rotation. We know what he is in the BP, but we really don't know how he will be as a starter. This decision is more about keeping him happy. Right now we have replacements in the rotation, but not the pen.

    Is that really possible? As he moves up let's hope he is all we wish for.

    Dodgers, Phillies, Mariners, Padres too start with, but wait until after FA to settle on the full answer.

    Sorry, but I will always be an Arraez fan - ask the Padres if they liked him. WAR is not the end point for me, but I respect your disagreement.

    I agree with rv78 - power does not have to be the defining point in a players development. Ask Arraez if exit velocity is the most important measurement. I will take him and so glad we have him.

    I am not saying he should not be a prospect - I just move Keaschall up and him down. I cannot get caught up in the hype. I have seen that too much. I also see Morris underrated and put him up there too. But if Em is number 3 or 4 is that really a big demotion?

    Not yet. I need to see bat discipline. You can get away with a lot in the minors that will not work in the majors. He slides to #3 or 4 for me.

    I have no idea - Lopez is our Ace, but then he goes stretches where he is more of number 4. Ryan is interesting but not an ace. Ober is good unless he has to face KC. We have a solid lineup of SP, but unfortunately none of them raise the bar like Cole or Wheeler or Skubal... We have a nice set of SP, not a great set.

    I actually would have him at number one. I am really excited to see him in the majors. He just has the feel of a rising star. Julien and Miranda are starting to feel like good trade bait.

    I have no comment on the current collection of arms - who knows with a BP. But I am wondering if we won't see a trend like the batting shift from HR and K to contact/power and fewer Ks. With thirty teams needing 390 arms for the collective BP I would see some teams trying to move back to the old formula - SP going at least 7 and reducing the number of mediocre arms needed for the BP by at least 60. Of course this may be an Old Man Dream.

    TOO SOON, TOO HIGH. I like to see players earn their ranking, not get wish credits for what we think is potential. He is not top ten for me yet.

    I am really curious about our pitching pipeline. How would they line up? Lopez, Ober, Ryan are sure things, but below that. Is Paddock really the next one or are we projecting because so far his acquisition has done nothing for me. It would seem that Richardson is number 4. And it seems like the posts reflect that Festa is number five if Paddock is gone. Then is it Matthew and Morris? Who behind them? Is Raya that close? Is Adams ready for RP or SP?

    I am fine with them for 2025. The two prospects you listed in the article are not ready yet and these two are producing at average and better at the plate - something we desperately need. Let someone beat them out before we look at moving them on.

    It's the bullpen. No one knows. No one projects with accuracy. I hope we are better, but nothing in this essay makes me fell secure.

    Waiting to see - not that long ago Winder and Headrick seemed like good prospects with excellent futures. Then there was Balazovic who I was sure would be outstanding - is he now pitching in the Yukon? Just kidding. Before that we had others that have now disappeared like Gonsalves and Thorpe. Glad to see the hype, just waiting to see the reality.

    I will judge this after two more years. Rule V is not a quick win or lose.

    You misunderstand what I am saying. Correa is the SS now and next year. Does he stay there as he is aging? Who takes his place when he either is traded, moves positions or finishes his contract?

    Is he positioned well for the end of the Correa contract? We have an abundance of infielders and it will we interesting to see how the FO takes advantage of this after they establish their payroll and sell the team. But right now the current MLB group, plus Eeles, Keaschall, and Culpepper makes a really full cupboard. Is it enough for them to consider trading Lewis or Lee or Correa?

    Teams in HS and college put their best athletes at SS - that does not mean that they are suited for that in the pros, but these teams have fewer choices. If they have a SS they put their best in CF. The positions they play at those levels are irrelevant going forward.

    It is not a group of outstanding prospects except Raya. Rule 5 is a good thing for fringe players. If they don't fit our profile they might fit elsewhere. Rooker, Gil, Steer are good examples of quality players that did not fit our roster but did well elsewhere. When I look at a list like this and I think it reflects on the quality of our minor leagues. Because we called up so many this year this list is less interesting than some of the past few years.

    Fun read, but not quite palatable for me. I see Castro as too good of an asset to let go. Camargo seems to be the backup catcher of choice based on his call ups. He saves them a lot of money if they can find a taker for Vasquez. This does not increase the quality of C, but it does get rid of money and that is what the Twins really want. Paddack can go if we find a taker and our young arms got a good introduction to MLB last year. I do not sign or trade for another SP. I see the bench filled from AAA - Eeles, McCusker, Keirsey. The BP is another issue. We do not want Thielbar back, but what do we have? Do we take young arms that have issues staying in the Rotation like Varland, Culpepper... and put them in the pen? Try for another Sands. This is not my preferred plan, but it fits what I see with the no spending Twins. Why bring in more questionable RP when you can run the young arms out and keep changing them so you have something fresh. BP management is much more difficult now that the complete game is no longer a part of the pitchers goals.

    I have no idea how good he will be but as I read his size and stats I think of Jimmy Wynn - 160 pounds, 55 WAR. He was called the Toy Cannon. I hope we see Gabriel grow into that kind of player. Too young to be critical of the things he can still learn.
