What a delight - nice reflection - two teams spinning out of control - what a fascinating set of circumstances. I am about to go back to work and fly to Florida and then go up the coast. I hope I can stay in touch because this should be fun. They can't pitch, we can't hit - amazing. But at least we have Joe Ryan.

Rocco, Usage, and the Twins Bullpen
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From the Athletic's Jayson Stark - RELIEF APPEARANCES PER SEASON 2021: 16,686 2011: 13,894 2001: 12,767 As he commented - everyone knows there are too many pitching changes, but will they stop - no it is just to easy to keep picking up arms and plug and play! This makes me sad.- 88 replies

But then we might not have had Jeffers and his 148 BA and -0.3 WAR at DH! Arraez batting 313 - but also a -0.1 WAR that is the result of a stone glove - at DH that is not a factor.

This is reached the point where there's not much to say. Somebody has to hit the ball and get on base and then even more important somebody has to score. Maybe tomorrow, but even if we win one of the three games what does it really mean?

Rocco, Usage, and the Twins Bullpen
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Doesn't he have pitching coaches and an assistant pitching coach and a bullpen coach and a bench coach and an assistant bench coach and two bullpen catchers and an assistant coach (I don't know who he assists and a quality control coach and a "major league coach (what does he do?)? An yet we cannot figure out how to use the pitchers? Or set a lineup without Kepler batting fourth? Counting Rocco they have 17 coaches for 28 men? Why not hire 11 more so no one has to sit alone?- 88 replies

rv78 stole my post! He covered it all. Good job. My only addition is Archer. We want 6 - 7 innings from starters but Chris just made a case for Rocco's 4. Duffey might come back this season, but can't Wes "Guru" Johnson see his stuff in the pen before sending him out? How many coaches do we have? What do our bench coaches do besides read the newspaper to Rocco? It is time to turn things around, I know it is only 7% of the season, but after last season, we need to see some more hope. How about a winning streak? '

Rocco, Usage, and the Twins Bullpen
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The big sticks are not here yet - on ESPN the Twins batting ranks 27 out of 30 in OPS we are 23. We need pitchers holding the other team down - right not Thielbar and Duffey, our two vets, are doing the worst. SP going 7 would change the dynamics of the game. We rank 20 overall - SP and RP - on the ESPN chart. "The bullpen ERA ranks 22nd in the majors, and the ERA actually undersells how much the Twins have struggled because their relievers have allowed an astonishing 60 percent of inherited runners to score." The Athletic And that was last year! Someday someone on this site will tell me who Wes Johnson has reclaimed? I keep hearing about his magic but I am afraid my eyes must be clouded over.- 88 replies

Twins Minor League Week in Review (4/12-18)
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
You bring up an interesting thought - what is the depth at the various positions. We have Larnach and Celestino on the roster, what other OF is there that could come up this year if needed? At SS I assume Lewis is now next in line and Palacios. 2B is already crowded and now they are trying Martin there and Steer - is he ready? At 1B - Sano, Kiriloff (IL), and who from the minors? Terry? Sabato and Wallner are not ready for the big leagues. Who is? 3B - Miranda I assume. C - how close are Mack and Carmargo? Who is at AAA that is the emergency replacement? P - Winder now filling in is next rookie to assume a full time Rotation spot - who is next? Sands?- 28 replies

Should Byron Buxton Shift to Designated Hitter?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No - would you have someone else run the bases for him? He is fragile, Kiriloff is fragile. I do not know what the Twins can do about it, but we have only one DH position and we have Sanchez and Sano for that. -
Twins Minor League Week in Review (4/12-18)
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Who is next to come up? Some nice stats among our prospects. But I don't see any place on the current roster where we can fit in another prospect. The best news is that we have a couple catchers who might move upward.- 28 replies

Week in Review: Scare Factory
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick it was a wonderful horror story. Once again you nailed it and I am sorry you are right on so many points. As I sit here with snow falling and two fresh inches on the ground I keep thinking this must still be spring training. These games don't count, but then I remember last spring and they do! Keep telling us the truth. -

Game Score: Red Sox 8, Twins, 1
mikelink45 replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am in admiration for any of you who can listen to Rocco - sorry, but that is too much to take. I know early in the season, but we need a four game winning streak to get above 500. 8 0f 10 batters are under 250! And five are 200 or less. The BP has Duran, maybe Duffey, Winder who now should step into the rotation and ?????????????????????????????????? The Twins BP ranks 28 out of 30. -
Minor League Report 4/16 The Bats Are Sizzling
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wow - prospects went 11 - 24. Nice. Lewis Thorpe has lost it and we have so many prospects I expect that unless he has a miraculous comeback he will be gone for good this year. And Vallimont is struggling. Glad we have a lot of arms - those two are not doing themselves any favors. I had to go and look at the 40 man. I would say that Garlick and Vallimont are the next two off the list.- 26 replies
