    After today's game I think you might want to edit your essay and remove Emilio from the list. Not sure who to put in, but Pagan is a disaster. I guess you can give me Moran over Pagan, but I think it is difficult to get past three RP at this point.

    I really enjoy these summaries - We are now at a point where the prospect list really means something. I look at Martin and think he needs to drop while Steer has to rise. The pitchers I like are either on the IL or just off it. Enlow and Henriquez look like pitchers who are dropping in the rankings, although I do not know who is next from the prospects that are not currently ranked. Miranda must be close to coming off the list because of MLB ABs. I am delighted that he has recovered from his weak start. Former prospect Larnach has now had two seasons start well and go south. I hope he can recover and get back on track. But from this list who comes up to pitch? Sands seems to win because everyone else is injured, too far down in their minors, or not performing. Who would you bring up?

    Duran! Then fingers crossed. This BP does not have another RP that deserves full trust.

    Nice reflection. I have always thought that judging coaches is almost impossible for those of us on the outside. We have now had a hitting coach and a pitching coach come in, impress us and leave. But the number of coaches is large and what they do and how effectively they do it is still a mystery that leaves Rocco taking the blame and credit for the rest of the team. Thanks for the insights.

    I have no idea - I know there are trade calculators out there that can measure value and some of these posts have done a really good job ranking prospects, but it really depends on the team we are trading with. Who do we want and who do they want? I know we have a glut of 2B, but so do many other teams - it seems like 1B and 2B and LF are the low ranking positions where players drop to if they do not have the talent to hold the premium positions. That makes trading our surplus less valuable. The other question I have based on the posts here - is why does it have to be a bad team we trade with. What about a good but flawed team that can use a Polanco/Kepler/throw in Sano/Urshela and have a nice surplus arm or two?

    Jorge Polanco - 273/333/446 14.2 WAR 7.7 WPA Max Kepler - 234/320/436 16.4 WAR 3.1 WPA Miguel Sano - 234/326/483 8 WAR 2.1 WPA Max and Miguel are pretty closely matched until fielding enters the WAR calculation. Over their career Jorge has averaged 2 WAR, Max a little more and Miguel has been a replacement player. I had to look at more that HRs since that is not my favorite stat. The reality is that we can package all three in a big trade and have someone ready to take their positions while we use a new and good SP.

    After a few hours I started to wonder what life is like in the pros versus the college ranks and how that might have affected him. How many more trips, how much time away from home did this cost him. As a person who travels over half the year I can say that there are times you wish for a little more home time, that good-byes are more difficult. Wes was not a professional pitcher, he did not develop with the lifestyle. Just speculating.

    No - there is a reason that "you can't go home again" remains a cliche. Thomas Wolfe added, " “Make your mistakes, take your chances, look silly, but keep on going. Don't freeze up.” I am pleased that Gibson succeeded in his journey, but let's reach for another pitcher who will prosper from a change of scenery.

    These are the kind of games the Twins need against the lower rung of teams. A nice victory and lots of reasons to celebrate. Let's keep it going.

    Miranda played 1B - 33 games in the minors, 2B - 168, and 3B - 223. He actually played SS one more game than he played 1B. Baseball Reference - go fielding register and at the bottom they break down positions and games.

    Miranda is playing 1B where he has no experience and has not played 3B enough for us to judge him, but that is the place he has the most experience.

    N ice review of an essential tool. Defense is too often overlooked. But like you, I cannot see anyone change on Def that will correct this. Miranda to third, Polanco back to 2B and Arraez at 1B might be our best lineup (or Kiriloff at 1B abd Arraez DH).

    The frustration is when we go to Colorado and can't score and can't win against another team that has a losing record. I just don't know what to think of the twins. The year either can write itself in Cleveland or spin out of control

    This was more disappointing than the Cleveland losses. We went for two high scoring games that we lost; then two games where our offense disappeared. The inconsistency is what hurts. We have the bats but they either on fire or they disappear. Nice to see here - two lesser used relief pictures do well, but in a game like this why not let Bundy get some more innings in and save those relief pitch Innings for the future,.

    Cleveland, being on the south shore of Lake Erie has lake effect rain and snow - the result is that it does not rain cats and dogs like other places - it rains starters and relievers - you just need a rain barrel to catch them.

    This is really good news to an old slow guy who loves to see the speed and daring that comes with SB and hit and run. Bunt, slug, hit, walk, move- that is baseball. We can have and celebrate the HR, but upsetting the opposing team, putting pressure on defense, catcher, and pitcher is wonderful. I hope this continues, but could Rocco deal with it?

    Wow is Smeltzer impressing all of us. What a great streak he is on and he is saving the SP, RP and the team. Nice. I do agree that if we have players we are not able or want to use it is time to adjust the roster.

    A lot of teams do. He is elite and not many are. I would put Buck Showalter on the short list, maybe Craig Counsel, and maybe Kevin Cash (but he has too much Rocco in him).

    Are the Twins a good team - definitely. Our bats should have won both games, but the bullpen is a mess. I am not a Rocco fan and I wonder why he had Thornberg warm up so many times but did not use him. He may be burned out from last night without ever getting on the actual mound. But I also wonder how Rocco can or should manage this assortment of arms. If the SP cannot go long, it is a tough night, after night, after night! When will Buxton be back? And I mean in the field too. This really hurts the team, but what is really wrong with him - can it be fixed? I like Arreaz at 2B more than Polanco this season and Polanco might have the value to get us another good arm. Finally, empty the Minors of every arm that looks like it has life and try to rescue the BP. Put Archer in the pen, he only goes 4 innings, what if that was in relief - like last night if he came in for Gray? This is my second post because I cannot get this game out of my mind - I hope the Twins players can!

    Very hard to argue with these five. But to add to the discussion, here are other players who might make this list: Duran - in this BP, what would we do without him? Is there another legitimate arm in the pen? Jeffers - despite our anguish over his bat, which is coming around, he is our catcher. Sanchez is not as good behind the plate and can leave as a FA and we have no one in the minors who is a potential starter right now.
