What's Left at First Base in Free Agency?
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is pathetic that a major league team cannot afford 10-12 million dollars to fill a major offensive hole in our lineup like first base. I'd love a trade for Diaz or Bohm, but let's be realistic, it's not happening. They obviously need to dump Paddack and Vasquez, but why haven't they? I'm sure they could have at least traded Paddack at winter meetings. Yet Falvey sits on his hands until everyones rosters are already set then he'll say nothing materialized, but it's ok cuz we like what we have ..- 81 replies

Twins Listening On Trade Inquiries About Pablo Lopez
LambchoP replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Trading our ace away would make it impossible for ownership to keep up the fascade of trying to be competitive this year . Plus, it would be just one more slap in the face to our already used and abused fanbase. -
There are no extensions coming from these owners, we all know that. With our supposed pitching pipeline we are probably trying to emulate CLE and TB by acquiring cheap controlled pitchers, using them up until they become too expensive and then trading them for more cheap controllable pitchers. It works for those teams year after year.

Maybe if we can get him on a minor league deal. As much as Rocco likes to platoon and pinch hit, I don't see the Twins signing a full time DH. They need a good first baseman more than anything. I'd love it if they could find the money for Walker, Goldschmidt or even Santana, but I doubt it. Holding out hope for a trade with PHI or TB for Bohm or Diaz. I think first base is the biggest hole on our roster and we need a big offensive boost there. I like Miranda but don't think he has the consistency or hr power to be the everyday first baseman.
-
Well, they can't be any worse than what we have can they? If they prioritize the fans and winning games over money, that would be a massive step in the right direction into earning the trust of Minnesota 's fanbase back.

I don't like it. Too much risk for a team that had to be perfect with their money. Jenkins and Rodriguez are likely going to be decent to great everyday players, but they could also end up another Buxton. Great when healthy, but only on the field half the time. Could even go worse and they end up not even being everyday players. Being a teams top prospect does not guarantee success at the major league level.

Castro is way too important to this team to dump him for a backup type of player. If we were to trade Castro, I'd say I'd want a starting first baseman or a better RH outfielder who hits well enough to be an everyday player. With all the I juries we have, plus the ineffectiveness of Julien and Lee, Castro is going to be needed and awful lot. Just about everyday like he was last year. I can't believe they haven't found a trade partner for Paddack yet. With the money these FA SP are getting, Paddack should have multiple suitors you would think. And it's not like the Twins are asking for a lot in return if it's just a salary dump.

I sure hope not. He's basically Austin Martin with better defense. This team needs to find a way to score runs. Keirsey and Martin should be able to handle the backup OF jobs until Rodriguez is ready. I'd rather they focus on getting a first baseman who can hit. Walker would be great. Diaz would be good. Goldschmidt or Santana would be ok. I like Miranda but don't think he's our long term answer at first.

I'm excited for Festa. I think if we trade Paddack and find a stable veteran to be our fifth SP, Festa can start the year in AAA which would be best for him. Let him finish off his development as both him and Mathews were rushed last year. I think if Festa can build up more endurance, maybe learn a fourth pitch, I can see him being a number 2-3 type starter similar to Joe Ryan.

Hopefully whoever the new owners are just do what's best for the team. Make sure the all the games are accessible and watchable and be willing to spend a bit of dough to put together a winning team year after year. Imagine the possibilities of the team this year of we had just another 40-50 million to play with....

Neither option helps the team much. I think a healthy Miranda outfits both these guys. I'd love a trade for Diaz. If we can't afford a 1-2 year stopgap option like Goldschmidt then we need to figure out who our first baseman of the future is. I don't hate the idea of moving Lewis there. Would help keep him healthy and first base is usually your power position. Miranda could do well there, but they need a better backup plan than Julien. I say trade for Diaz or give Goldschmidt one year. Walker would fit perfectly on our team but of course, ya know, money :(

If we can ever get a full season from Correa, Buck and Lewis, we would probably win the central for sure. As much as I hate to say it, I don't think it will ever happen. That said, Correa is the best all around player we have and is the leader of this team. Without him, we'd have no identity or validity whatsoever.
-
No reason to do this now. First he needs to prove he can stay on the field for a whole year. Then we need to see what kind of numbers he puts up over a full year. Lastly, they have to figure out if he's going to be a third, second or first baseman or a DH. Lot of things up in the air with Lewis right now.

Please Come to Minnesota, Roki Sasaki
LambchoP replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He would be a major get for us. Question is, why would he want to come to a team that is desperate to trade away players to lower payroll. You'd think he would be more interested in a team that looks to be a contender. Not a team looking to trade away assets and possibly get a new owners.... -
Twins need to actually pick up the phone and initiate some trades. Waiting back and just hoping some team calls us with a good deal probably isn't going to happen. Waiting until the last minute when everyone has their teams pretty much set is pure stupidity. Every other day it seems we read about a new team acquiring a catcher. Why didn't we try to trade Vasquez to any of those teams?

I think he could be a good pitcher for us down the road. He's about two years away though having barely pitched above A ball. If he can make it through this year it'll be a good pickup. Not sure he'll be good enough for a bullpen spot though. I'd rather give Varland a shot at being a full-time reliever and see if his 100 mph fastball can generate any trade interest. Same with Canterino or Moran. Spring training will be interesting. It is seriously sad that a rule 5 pickups and a couple minor league signings are all we're going to do, while still trying to push the narrative that we are trying to compete lol.

These guys all definitely earned it. Trading away any one of these guys would be idiotic.

The truth is, last year they had a fourth place team that had a historic collapse at the end of the year. With the AL Central teams all getting better for 2025, the Twins are going to roll out the same exact team as last year and just hope for the best. This is not a competent strategy and I just really hope the new owners place an importance on winning and not just profit.

We can't even afford Rosario lol. Twins will do nothing but sign minor league deals, stating our "wealth" of young talent as the reason for not doing anything. They will run out the same exact team that collapsed at a historic level and finished in 4rth place. But oh, we're planning on competing so make sure to watch and come to the games.....sad state of the team these days. Do we have new owners yet?
-
Maybe he'll be our long man out of the pen since he's been a starter. I think the fact they are trying to fill MLB roster spots with rule 5 pickups shows us how active we're going to be in the free agent and trade markets. Nothing but minor league signing rest of the off-season is my guess. Pretty sad. A first baseman like Diaz should be attainable . Rays are always looking for pitching. Paddack and a prospect for Diaz would give us a starting first baseman that we need. Not holding my breath....

This team needs to decide what they're doing. If they intend to compete, which they should since we have Correa Buxton and Pablo at their peaks, then they need to stop penny pinching and get on the phone now. Fill the holes in the roster with competent players and make a push for the division. Any playoff exposure makes them more money and more attractive to potential buyers. If we're not going to try and compete, then just admit it. Trade Correa, Pablo and maybe Buxton for all the young talent you can get. Either way they need to decide one way or the other. This in between crap is killing the team and alienating the fan base worse than ever.
