As for NRI players i am disappointed to not see Eeles with an invite to big league camp. With the year he just had he should get a good long look this spring. First base is mostly set with Miranda so the only battle will be for who backs him up or splits time with him. Second base is wide open. Im guessing some combo of Castro and Lee with Julien and Martin getting looks as well. Maybe some Keaschal as well. Our catcher duo is set but they need to figure out who is catcher number 3 in case of injury or trade. Gasper probably has the best bat but it looks like the twins dont view him as a catcher anymore, so it'll be a battle between Camargo and the new kid from LA. Twins need to figure out their long term first baseman and catcher situation. This year might be an audition year. If one of our guys can take the job then great. If not, we know we need to sign somone new.

I love watching Ryan pitch. If he can learn to get deeper into ballgames this year while keeping his strikeouts up and era down, him and Pablo could be a great one two punch in the rotation. Ober can be great too if healthy Im less sure on Paddack and SWR. S looked great last year, hopefully he can build on that. I do think well be seeing Festa and Morris in the rotation within a few months. Even if its just temporary like a 15 day il stint for Paddack for something like arm fatigue.

With the year Eeles had in '24, he should have the same opportunity to earn a roster spot as Lee or Julien. Whether as a second baseman or utility guy. Who cares if hes not a top prospect? If he can outhit and outplay other guys, then he should get a legitimate look.

I think he was signed as a backup plan in case Miranda, Julien, Gasper and Ford look like they can't handle the 1b job. I just hope France doesn't get a spot on the team based on his experience at first. I say go with the best bat seeing as none of these guys are good defenders anyways. Go with Miranda, maybe Julien. Give Severino a look if he's swinging well and eventually maybe Keaschal. We've got lots of options for 1b and 2nd base, just need to find the best combo of guys at each position.

While I don't think Lewis will play a full season, an all-star caliber first half is a distinct possibility, and that's all you need to make the all-star team. How about Payton Eeles? Rookie of the year and '25 all-star lol!

I also think they'll work out a trade so they can send Castellano down to AA or AAA. I think the battle for the second base job in ST will be interesting. I think Lee probably has the most upside over Julien and Martin. Keaschal probably ends up taking over eventually, but even if he's healthy and hitting, I don't see him getting his call up until mid season. The only other position battles should be for bench spots. I'm thinking Miranda and France for first base. So that leaves Castro as utility and one or two bench spots. Bader gets one as the 4rth OF. Then maybe Martin and whoever hits best out of Ford, Gasper, Keirsey, Severino etc...

Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Kyle DeBarge
LambchoP replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
He should be fun to follow his ride through the minors. Hopefully they keep him at SS. Seems we draft so many of these shortstops then by the time they get called up to MLB they aren't shortstops anymore. Martin, Lewis, Lee, I think Miranda maybe.... -
I think a trade with the Orioles for MountCastle makes way too much sense. They want pitching, we need a starting first baseman who can hit and play well defensively. I'm sure we could get him for Paddack and one of our young high minors pitchers. I never expected this to happen but with the Ty France signing, I think it all but assured we aren't getting a starting first baseman this year. Hopefully Miranda is up to the task.

France is a low risk signing, if he looks good early then he can backup 1b and DH. If he sucks, he doesn't make the team. I really believe the Twins need to finally decide on a long term first baseman rather than the year to year carousel. Maybe use this year to see if Miranda can do it. Give Severino one last chance to get a call up. Maybe Royce Lewis ends up at first base if we need 3rd base for Lee. Can Keaschal play first? A lot of these questions should be answered this year. If we can't find an answer in house, then a trade or FA signing should be made in the off-season. A little stability at first would be great. Then we can turn our attention to the next big need, our long term catcher:)

I think these depth type signings do raise our floor a bit and help as injury insurance but do nothing at all to raise the ceiling . They don't help our lineup at all either, which is something we needed to do. Maybe Keirsey wouldn't be able to outperform Bader offensively or defensively but how do we know if he never gets a chance? Could Severino outhit and be a better first baseman than France? Maybe. If all these depth moves, which seemingly just clog up our bench are a prelude to a trade to get an actual impact starting player then I'm all for it. Unfortunately, I think this is all we're getting. Signing backup bench guys and hoping for better health and performance from our main guys like every other year.

NEWS: Twins Agree to Sign Infielder Ty France
LambchoP replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My guess is whoever looks better defensively between Miranda and France gets the first base job and the other will get DH at bats with Julien playing first for the Saints and needing to earn a call up. I'm not sure Ty France will be able to outperform Yunior Severino. Dude has two plus years experience at first base and has crazy power. Also a switch hitter. Maybe he gets a mid season call up if he's doing well in AAA and Miranda or France gets hurt?- 279 replies

I could see extensions for Ryan and Ober. Would really stabilize the rotation. They shouldn't get big money deals though as there are both injury and inconsistency concerns. If we can get them cheap on a team friendly deal then go for it. I need to see Lewis actually put together a full season before even thinking of an extension. We've seen flashes sure, but at this point we still don't know if he'll ever be durable enough to be a starter quality player. As far as Jeffers goes, I like him,but think his best years are past. If we're going to lock up a long term catcher I think we should look for a young defensive catcher with an average or better bat. Maybe look to free agency next year when Vasquez leaves. We don't have anyone in our system now that inspires much confidence.

I think at this point you have to plan for IL stints for Correa, Buck and Lewis. The hope is that these are short instances and not recurring or serious issues. We also need our depth and backup players to be able to handle the load while our "stars" are hurt. I think we're ok in the OF with Bader, Castro, Keirsey, Martin, maybe Keaschal and eventually ERod. The infield is a little more sus imo. It all depends on who is our starting 2nd baseman. If it's Lee, who is our backup SS or 3rd baseman? Who is our backup to Miranda at 1b? Castro should be able to cover most of these in the short term as long as he's not required to start at any one position long term. I think we really need a good first baseman to go along with Miranda and DH. Casas, MountCastle or Diaz would be best. Worst case, grab Turner for this year and look for a long term solution next year.

The Saints look like they'll have a stacked rotation! Festa, Mathews, Adams, Raya, Lewis.... Hopefully these guys stay healthy and perform well. As we all know, you can never have too much pitching. Especially since I still believe a trade of Paddack is coming. I'm excited to see how a few fringe type NRI guys hit in Spring. Eeles, Mccusker and Severino. Not forgetting about Keirsey too. If an injury to Buck and Larnach/Wallner happens, Keirsey might be the first OF call up. I think he would be better than Martin.

Will be nice to see Keaschal against big league pitching, but I also would have liked to see Eeles out there. With no real backup options to Miranda at 1b, I hope they give Severino one more shot to make the roster. Dude led the minors in HR in '23. Took a bit of a step back last year but still hit 24 HR I believe? This will be his third year in AAA so it might be his last chance. The strikeouts are a concern, but he's young and has the power to be a 1b/DH for us this year.

I think eventually Royce Lewis will be our long term first baseman with Keaschal taking over 2nd and Lee at 3rd. Might be a year or two until this happens though. If we can't get Casas, MountCastle or Diaz, let Miranda take a shot and see how it goes. Just might need a better backup option than Julien, Gasper and Ford....

I wouldn't mind seeing Castro as the starting 2b at least until Lee, Keaschal, Julien or Eeles forces their way into a job. Castro is also a solid 3b, and LF option as well. He can even cover SS and CF short term. I think our team is definitely better with him, but with the Bader signing and rumors that we're looking for a backup infielder, Castro may be gone. If they do trade him I just hope they get a good long term catcher, or even better, a starting caliber first baseman. I think MountCastle or Diaz would improve this lineup greatly.

Did the Pohlads have a change of heart?
LambchoP replied to thelanges5's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think they are trying to drum up interest in the team to get people to sign up for the new twins.tv subscription. I'm not sure Coulombe and Vader are enough. They need to sign an impact bat, that would increase subs for sure. -
Castro at first doesn't sound like a solution to me. They need to make a trade for a true power hitting first baseman. If they can't swing that, I think Larnach should try a platoon with Miranda. I don't trust Julien until he proves he can hit again. I think the long-term solution will be Royce Lewis at first and Lee/Miranda at third, but I don't think they are ready to designate him a first baseman yet. Aside from Wallner and Larnach, I think Lewis profiles best as a power hitting 1b.

I didn't know we had Acuna's little brother:)

My guess is a trade of Paddack is coming. If the Twins really are looking at backup infielders, maybe that means Castro is on the block too. I hope we keep him, he's too valuable to such an injury prone team like the Twins. I am hoping for a trade to acquire an offensive first baseman or Dylan Cease. As long as the trade doesn't hurt our lineup too much.

Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Kaelen Culpepper
LambchoP replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Maybe he develops into a solid SS/3rd baseman that hits for high avg, 10-20 HR and steals bases. A lot of our top prospects are pitchers or outfielders. Other than Keaschal it'll be nice to see some infield prospects move through the ranks :) -
I can't imagine we would get any kind of MLB talent other than bench players for Paddack. Maybe we acquire the backup SS that the Twins apparently want? I'd rather add another player or two with Paddack to get Cease or a 1b that can hit.
