Barring a bunch of injuries, I think we have enough solid SP options that will be waiting for a call up in AAA. If Paddack is still our #5 then we'll have Festa, Mathews, Adams and Raya all ready to go. Not to mention Lewis, Culpeper and few others on their way too. I get that we have a full pen but with a lot of injury risk. Sands could be one of our best relievers, you don't mess with that. We all saw what CLE was able to do last year with an elite bullpen. And we have a better starting staff than they did. If we could pick up a solid lefty and maybe another higher leverage arm, I'd believe all this "best BP in baseball" talk. On another note, the Giants traded Taylor Rodgers to the Reds for just their 36th ranked prospect. They also got six million, meaning they got a closer type lefty for a lottery ticket and six million. This is the kind of deal we should have pounced on as it would have solidified our pen. Of course, we do nothing, as is seemingly our strategy. No nothing and hope all our players do better than last year. Sad really...

I'm more intrigued by how Eeles, Keaschal, Keirsey, and all of our young pitchers due in '25. I'm guessing that we will see lots of kids getting their debuts and will have chances to play for the major league club. With the team being so injury prone and not being able to sign a single new player this off-season, we're going to be seeing and relying on a lot of new in house faces.

In CF, no. I'd be fine with Castro first, then Martin as backup OF 's in the corner. For CF, I really only think Buck and Keirsey. At least until Rodriguez is ready. I think this is the year to finally give Keirsey a shot at real playing time. I don't care he hits left handed. He's a great defender and hit really well all year in AAA, he's got nothing left to prove in the minors.

So all Twins hitters need to do is have better at bats. Huh, wish they would have thought of that last year lol

Anyone else even remember an off-season without adding one single new major league player? Man, new owners cannot come soon enough. Aside from a complete teardown and rebuild, nothing could be worse than this. We can dream on a Cease trade, but we're not getting him. I'm guessing a third place finish in AL Central. A ton of prospect debuts and seeing what we have in terms of young talent before new owners change up the team next off-season.

3 Potential Twins Trades for the Padres' Dylan Cease
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think we're getting Cease but it's fun to dream. He is only a rental and we aren't signing him long term so we have to look at him as a one year and done, plus a QO draft pick. SD has some interest in Vasquez. I don't think Vasquez and a near ready MLB pitcher like Mathews, Raya or Adams gets it done. What if we pay down half of Vasquez's salary? Vasquez and 5 million dollars Mathews/Raya/Adams C. Lewis Does that get it done? Maybe throw in a AA or A good looking prospect.- 88 replies

I completely understand the value of defensive versatility and wanting our guys to be able to cover multiple positions. It allows Rocco to platoon, play match ups and cover for injured starters. The downside being, these young kids are being forced to learn three different positions. While they may end up ok at two or three of them, they never really get the development time to become any better than average at any one position. When you have an infield of utility guys it's nice from a management standpoint, but more than likely your defense is going to suffer. Gold glovers stick to one position and play it well. I think the best middle ground is having one or two multiple position guys in the IF and one or two in the OF. Everyone else has their own designated position that they can focus on. I'm sure the players would love it and would probably improve their offensive numbers as well.

Should The Twins Be Investing In The Rotation?
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Give them Vasquez and someone like Raya, Lewis, Adams for a year of Dylan Cease. Then trade Paddack and another prospect or two for a first baseman like MountCastle or Diaz. I'd be overjoyed with our off-season if even one of these comes to fruition.- 107 replies

The Minnesota Twins Are Active In the Trade Market
LambchoP replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Maybe Vasquez, Paddack and someone like Raya or Cory Lewis for Cease? Is Cease under control for just this year? I'm drooling over a MN rotation of Lopez, Cease, Ryan, Ober and SWR/Festa/Mathews! I'll believe it when I see it though. Highly unlikely would be my guess. -
I saw on mlbtrade rumors that the Twins and Padres are trying to line up on a trade for either or both of Paddack and Vasquez. Surprisingly it also said that we were interested in Dylan Cease. I don't really believe it, but if we could somehow snag him, imagine our SP rotation of Lopez, Cease, Ryan, Ober and SWR/Festa/Mathews. That would make up for this agonizing off-season. To get Cease we'd probably have to give up one of our top 5 prospects I'd guess. Vasquez, Paddack and Raya? I'm sure that's not enough. I'm not sure if Cease has any control remaining or not as that will make a difference.

I say keep him. You can never have too many starters, especially with Ryan coming off injury and SWR not proven yet. We saw what happened last year when we tried to rely on Festa and Mathews. If one of our AAA SP are needing a call up, Paddack could be great in the pen. If we do trade him, it should only be for major league players. We have more than enough depth/prospect/ AAAA players...

I say if we can find a team to take Vasquez and his salary you have to do it, but only if we use the money saved to re invest it into improving this years team like a solid LHRP or RH OF.

I think what's most likely is we'll be out of contention by the trade deadline. Buxton, Lewis and Correa will miraculously get hurt and sit out the second half and the team will trade off veterans on expiring contracts. If new ownership is going to raise payroll and make a splash, I think it would happen next off-season. New owners, new payroll and clean slate. Can't come soon enough!

5 Burning Questions Facing the 2025 Twins Bullpen
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Varland needs to be designated a full-time reliever this year. He's had plenty of chances at being a starter. Put him in the pen at AAA to see if he earns a call up. Canterino and Prelipp could be dark horse weapons for our pen if they can finally get healthy. Topa is a wildcard, but ultimately I like our pen, despite the lack of a proven lefty.- 49 replies

Exploring Two Trade Scenarios for Willi Castro
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think overall we need more offense this year, which Castro would probably help with, covering for just about everybody if they went down with injury, negating the need to call up a prospect who isn't ready. If we did trade Castro, I'd be fine trading him straight up for a late inning lefty reliever. But only if said reliever can get eighties out as well, and if we use the 6 million or so saved to pick up a RH OF bat -
I'm glad we get MLB.tv for free from t Mobile. I think I read they have a signed contract to keep offering it through 2028. I just wish we could watch twins spring training games with MLB.tv, but as far as I can remember, St isn't included?

I hope we don't waste what little wiggle room we do have on someone like Rizzo, or another Margot for the OF. The only moves is make are on the pitching side. Dump Paddack and sign Quintana. That shores up the rotation. We need another good MLB reliever, preferably a lefty who can also get eighties out. I still say Andrew Chafin would be a good fit.
-
Let's wait to see if we even have 5 healthy and effective starters, let alone 6, that deserve a full-time rotation spot. I'd go with the hybrid method if anything. Our bullpen usually throws a lot of innings. To keep our relievers healthy and from being over worked, I don't think we can spare the roster spot on a SP number 6 for long periods of time.

This will never happen but I believe both Festa, Mathews and Morris need some more time in AAA. I like our top 3 of Lopez, Ryan and Ober. SWR as our 4 could go either way. For our number 5, I think it makes sense to dump Paddack for a cheap relief pitcher or prospect, and then sign Quintana to a one year deal. His salary is more or less the same as Paddack and would give us a much different lefty look in the rotation. Would also allow Festa and Mathews to finish off their development rather than needing to rely on them right out of the gate.
