  1. Still holding out hope for a sale to go through sometime this year to an owner dedicated to regaining the trust and backing of MN fans. Someone who wants to actually win and is willing to spend more to get there. In a winnable division, another 30-50 million would go an awful long way. Imagine a lineup with Correa, Buxton, Lewis and someone like Guerrero/Alonzo or some other all star power hitting 1b.
  2. I think the twins will give Castellano every opportunity to stick in the pen. They are using a roster spot on him, he's one of our top pitching prospects now and he has great potential as a starter down the road. It sounds like Stewart might start the year on the IL which should open a spot for Alcala, leaving Topa and Varland pitching for St Paul, likely first men up. Alcala was misused last year. Hopefully they learned from that because of used correctly, he has the potential to be one of our best late inning options.
  3. I'm not sure what it is. Is our medical team lacking in it's injury prevention practices? Do we just tend to draft and aquire injury prone guys? Is it all just bad luck year after year? I don't know how our prospect injuries compare to other teams, but it sure seems like one or two major injuries is a hurdle each and every one of our guys will have to go through at some point just to make the team. Hopefully Rodriguez can get healthy ASAP and start tearing up AAA pitching along with Keaschal and Eeles. I think all three of those guys has a chance at a mid to late season call up if they're hitting well enough
  4. If we believe we need even more SP depth then lefty Quintana could probably be had for a few million. I say trade Paddack along with a prospect or two for offensive help and then sign Quintana to be our #5. Doubt this will happen, barring major injuries I think our roster is pretty well set
  5. Julien is young enough and talented enough that I'm not ready to give up on him yet after only one bad year. However, unless he totally years it up in spring training, I'm starting him at St. Paul and making him earn his way back. His defense anywhere will never be great, and with plenty of other options at first and second base, Julien's bat is going to need to be his calling card. This is likely his last chance to earn a spot on the big league club as he's out of options after this year. I wish him the best. If he hits like he did in 23, the roster crunch gets interesting with Castro, Lee, Keaschal and Eeles all vying for at bats in the infield.
  6. Lewis' career has been one of extremes. We've seen a potential power hitting MVP type of player in short stints and we've seen the ultra injury prone, slump prone bust. I think this year will be important to prove he can stay healthy and show the team what kind of player he is. Keeping him at third base is a good move. Let him focus on health and consistency. A productive Lewis is a major boon for this team and lengthens the lineup significantly.
  7. Everyone seems to be ready to hand Rodriguez and everyday OF job, but the kids only played 47 games last year, most of them in AA. He's never even played half a season as a pro. Let's temper the expectations a bit and hope for a full healthy year of production first, then talk about a possible September call up. Keaschal seems more likely to get his debut first. With all the questions marks at first and second base, if Keaschal's bat looks ready, I could see him making his debut fairly early
  8. Fundamentals, athleticism, defense, and situational hitting all should be worked on and improved. We need to be able to move runners over and get hits with RISP. We do not have an elite offense, which makes these skills even more important. Cleaning up our defense will also help out a lot of our young pitchers who will not doubt be throwing innings for us at some point this year. My main concern is Rocco sticking with struggling veterans for way too long when there are other options. France, Bader, Paddack.... Give them their fair shake, but if they're not cutting it, next man up.
  9. I think how he looks in spring training might help determine our course of action with him. Dude seems like a legit pitching prospect and you can never have too many of those. I hope we find a way to keep him. Add him to the stable of young arms we're developing:)
  10. Pitching should be the strength of this team. We've got more legitimate depth than we've had in a long time, especially with near MLB ready pitchers. The offense and defense in the real question mark. If our big 3 of Buxton, Correa and Lewis can stay healthy for long chunks of the season we might be ok. I still think we need one more big bat, most likely at first base. Maybe if we have new owners by the trade deadline, and we're in a position to go for it, they make a splash and grab an impact bat. As always, healthy will be a major factor in the teams success this year.
  11. I think Paddack could provide some real value this year. I'm thinking maybe he pitches well the first couple months, until Festa looks ready, and then Paddack suddenly goes on the IL for a while giving his rotation spot to Festa. Maybe Paddack comes back in the bullpen if there's an opening. Maybe another team comes calling and offers us some kind of trade that would benefit the major league club at the trade deadline. Paddack will be doing all he can to pitch a career year as he's entering free agency and wants to land that lucrative deal
  12. I hope his '24 was for real. Looks like he's got good stuff. Hopefully he can make it through the year without blocking better options. I was expecting some kind of trade so that we could send him down the the minors to finish his development, but not sure what that trade would look like
  13. We need to get very lucky and have this finally be the year that Buxton, Correa and Lewis all stay healthy and on the field together. If that happens, we might have a shot:)
  14. If this is ever going to happen he's going to need to stay on the field for the whole season. If we could ever get just one full year of Correa, Buxton and Lewis together, we might have a shot.
  15. Would be nice if he can develop into a power hitting first baseman. We need a long term solution there. Seems most of our upper level prospects are pitchers. Aside from the big 3 of Jenkins, Rodriguez and Keaschal, it'd be nice to see the Twins develop a few more impact bats.
  16. I could see it going either way. And average defense with Miranda/France as passable 1st baseman. A good 2nd baseman in Lee. Correa is elite and Lewis should improve at 3rd. Castro looked good pretty much everywhere Or it could be a mess if Julien is our second baseman. France is a butcher at first. Correa gets hurt and we have no viable SS.... hopefully it doesn't come to this. I still think they should have signed a backup SS like Iglesias. Dude hit like .315 last year and would be a better glove than Castro. At least our outfield defense should be elite. Especially if Buck and Vader are healthy and playing. Not many balls are going to land between Bader in left and Buxton in center:)
  17. After what he did last year I think SWR has earned the #5 spot, unless his spring is disasterous or something. This leaves Festa and Mathews first up as reinforcements. I think it's probable that Paddack is injured or ineffective enough to be replaced by mid season. I'd like to see consistency with Festa and Mathews in St Paul first, but I think they'll both make MLB starts at some point this year. St Paul should have an interesting rotation with Festa, Zebby, Adams, Morris, Raya and Lewis. As others have said, Varland is cooked as a starter and should let it fly as a reliever out of the pen.
  18. It's got to be so hard jumping three levels and playing with three different teams in one year Morris and Zebbys numbers had to have suffered a little bit because of the added stress. I'm excited to see what both of them can do in a full year in AAA. The 2022 draft has the potential to be one of the best drafts in recent memory. If even some of these high minors pitching prospects work out the Twins should be in a good position for a lot of years. Festa, Zebby, Morris, Adams, Raya, Lewis, Culpeper, Prelipp, Canterino... The future looks bright :) Now we just need to draft some impact bats!
  19. That's true, I wonder what it would take in order to complete a trade. I know Castellano was their minor league pitcher of the year in '24, but he only reached AA. Seems he's still at least one year away, which makes me think it'll be hard to keep him in the pen all year if he struggles since we will have other viable options in AAA.
  20. It would be amazing to have a lefty handed home grown ace in our rotation. That should be the goal. If he can't seem to sustain a starters workload though, a lefty handed hard throwing closer wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Either way, Prelipp should be fun to watch progress this year. Hopefully he can stay healthy and put himself in the best position possible for a late season call up
  21. I think a full-time role in the bullpen is the best use for Varland. A great spring training would help, but even if he has to start the year in AAA, having him as relief depth would be very valuable. Relievers are especially volatile year to year and injuries happen. Have him let it rip in the pen and maybe he turns into a high leverage weapon. He's cooked as a starter, especially with the SP depth we now have
  22. As long as Rocco isn't so RH obsessed that we get more lineups with Vasquez or Martin as our DH JUST because they hit RH....
  23. Best odds are probably on Castellano since he needs to stay on the roster if we want to keep him. I still think we should work out a trade so we could send him back down to AA or AAA. Eeles would be a fun pick to. If he keeps hitting like he did last year, he could be a great utility guy and Castro replacement next year. Canterino in the pen and Severino at first base could happen if they both can bounce back and if there are injuries. The fact that the Twins haven't given up on either of these guys shows that there is still promise. Keaschal by mid season hopefully. Not because of injury or poor performance hopefully, but because he's performing way to well in AAA to not get the call. Can't wait for games to start! Wish spring training games were televised though.
  24. I think Canterino, Prelipp and Varland should definitely be full-time relievers. All three could be high leverage weapons in our pen, making our relief core even deeper if everyone is healthy. Maybe that depth opens up a trade at the deadline to get a little more thump in our lineup somewhere. As far as starters to relievers I'd say maybe Raya and or Soto? I wouldn't make that move until they are sure those guys cannot handle a starters workload, AND if we have that big of a need in the pen.
  25. I think that expecting France to be productive enough to be our everyday first baseman all year is a little naive. I'm guessing Miranda takes over before too long if he's healthy. I just hope we don't stick with the struggling veteran for far too long like we did with Margot last year. Same opinion with second base. Let Lee and Julien battle it out for the starting job, but if they're both struggling and Keaschal or Eeles are raking in AAA, then give them a shot if they earned it.
