Joey Gallo Shatters Failure Narratives
Althebum82 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A very thoughtful analysis of an enigma of a player. Not sure how relevant the Jayce Tingler connection is to his performance, but it apparently had an impact on him landing with the team which is interesting. I also thought the signing was a poor fit for this team and still hold that opinion. But, yeah, if he can finish with an 800+ OPS in an injury-impacted season and exhibit the positive qualities pointed out by others here, he may have been an expensive FA to pursue, but one who has proven worthy of pursuit nonetheless. -
Love to see all of the positive recognition (with caveats, as always) for the highlights of this game. It certainly makes for a refreshing post-game read. Miranda's only mildly saving grace today was starting a double play, but his error lead to an unearned run and he seems to be flummoxed by average to below average major league pitchers. He needs to go back (assuming an option remains) and figure it out while Castro is limited to the infield with Walner's return so richly earned.

McCusker was in his third season with the Tri-City Valleycats (Troy NY) playing independent ball for former MLB star Pete Incaviglia. This year he has been chasing the league's triple crown leading the Frontier League in HR, RBI. and BA. He graduated in 2021 from Oklahoma State but was undrafted. Supposedly the Twins had visited with him after his freshman year at Folsom Lake (CA) Junior College but things fizzled out when he decided to continue on with his college education and career. A native of Sparks, NV he is reportedly 6'8" and 250 pounds.

Yeah, the Twins/Saints have had a lot of patience and loyalty with Aaron Sanchez. He has served a purpose and filled a role that most likely no other organization would offer him. He seems to have reached the point where he is now blocking others from gaining experience as a AAA starter (maybe even Winder, although he has been used exclusively in the bullpen this season). This needs to be Sanchez's last on-field season for this franchise.

Buxton fighting the "back spasm" pain Saturday may lead to Wallner's return sooner than the trade deadline. Noone ever wants Buxton on the IL (no matter how conditioned we have become to seeing it), but the timing is good for him to focus on getting healed and giving Wallner the shot he has clearly earned.

Monster game for Prato. Even before this game he was off to a hot start since his promotion to the Saints from AA where it would actually be kind to describe his offensive accomplishments as modest. Might be interesting to check in on his progress in a couple of weeks to see if he is still in some measure showing some surprising promise.

Whose on your all time Twins team?
Althebum82 commented on Devlin Clark's blog entry in Devlin Clark
Ya'll are so very polite to play along with a headline that begins with an incorrect use of the word "Whose". Who's gonna admit that they noticed this but were just to kind to mention it? It takes a jerk like me to point it out. Love, Horton the hearing elephant.- 54 comments

On a completely different topic......it has been very rare for this franchise over the years to resort to either an opener or bullpen-only pitching strategy. For this I have been very grateful! I don't understand what prompted it to be used for this particular game. but I was totally prepared to complain about it in the post-game summary today. Instead, I am forced to be extremely happy with the results, dammit. Maybe instead I need to complain about why they don't do it more often? Naw, I'll just have to stuff my whining for now until the next time it is tried,....

Twins 7, Brewers 5: A Twins Win to Remember!
Althebum82 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was trying to understand what Winder had accomplished in St Paul that warranted his call-up. He was definitely the right man at the right time tonight and got rewarded for his effort with this first MLB win of the season.- 51 replies

Did these 10 players struggle the most during their Twins career?

Am I the only one that notices the inclusion of Gene Glynn who never played a single game for any MLB team, much less the Twins? -
The good news for Dylan Bundy is that he at least found work at the AAA level this season. The bad news for him is that so far he is performing more like "Married With Children" guy Al Bundy: Former top prospect ejected from Triple-A game for 'sticky substance' (msn.com)

Whoa, nice catch on Vargas I has no clue that he was with the Twins in 2020. I really love this list!

Way to capture all of the unique aspects and angles of this game! Ober continues to provide a terrific boost to the success of this team, and after knocking off one jinx against the Yankees this franchise has now seen a second historic jinx ended as well.

C.J. Cron appears to be headed "back" to the IL.....and based on his performance so far this season, it certainly could mean that he never actually fully recovered from the first trip? Rockies Likely To Place C.J. Cron On 10-Day Injured List - MLB Trade Rumors

Is Bailey Ober Sustainable?
Althebum82 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Okay, I'll bite on the Brad Peacock reference. After finishing a competitive year at AAA with Omaha and the Saints in 2022, whatever happened to him this season? Retired? Unsigned free agent? International ball? -

Here's How to Make Room for Alex Kirilloff

Rookie couldn't even finish one game due to an injury. Nobody feels sorry for the Yankees, but I bet that they will be motivated to find someone outside of their own organization and the Twins may just be the right partner: Yankees' Jake Bauers makes incredible catch vs Rangers but suffers injury (msn.com)- 43 replies

Wow, you pretty well nailed it. Only thing to add is that it is refreshing to have our catchers be so solidly dependable that they are excluded from the discussion. Yeah, KC stole some bases but who cares if you can still beat them three out of four games in spite of that. Nicely done!

Here's How to Make Room for Alex Kirilloff
Althebum82 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So far the Yankees have sure looked like a team in desperate need of an outfielder, although more so in LF than RF. But, for now, they are pinning their hopes on a rookie to be ready to make his mark. If that doesn't pan out by this time at the end of the month of May, I think they would welcome Kepler in exchange for a not-yet-MLB-ready starting pitching prospect (If they have one) in advance of the deadline.- 43 replies

Alex Kirilloff and Embracing the Unknown
Althebum82 replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The unasked question here is who do the Twins drop to get Kirilloff on the 26 man roster? Castro is the easiest answer to that question. It appears that they are committed to Gordon and Solano in the infield, at least until Farmer returns. Do they finally give up on Kepler instead? He as actually right now hitting at above career averages, and still playing elite defense. This would not seem to be good timing for this move. So, let's send Castro packing and give Kirilloff the chance to goose up our offense instead of the offense of the AAA team. Service time considerations are a sad reason to not make the right move. But, I suppose ultimately baseball a business with business choices to consider. Sigh. -

Impressive win against Jim Kaat's favorite rhyming Nestor! Looking forward to Maeda's best effort so far this year so maybe the Twins can add "series sweep" on top of season win honors against this opponent in 2023.
