  1. The problem, this isn't going to happen because the front office doesn't want to have a third straight losing season in a row. They pitched the idea of "sustainable competitiveness" and yet here we are in year 7 of the regime and we're not much better off than where we started. I don't know if the Pohlads are anywhere ready to be handing out pink slips, but Falvine is more likely to acquire a couple rentals or get a couple guys with control to at least win the division so they can buy some more time... despite the fact that the team will be totally buoyed by being in a horrifically bad division.
  2. I'd rather stick with just having the Paddack contract rather than having him and Mahle. With Ryan, Varland, and Ober on their rookie deals and Lopez just signing an extension, I think we are good with the rotation the way it is. And that's not mentioning what to do with Sonny Gray. Hard pass.
  3. Bad loss. The logic behind giving Pagan a shot in high leverage situations makes sense with how well he's pitched recently, but he just doesn't have what it takes. I imagine Falvey/Levine have been pestering Rocco to get him out of low leverage situations for some time now, and with Lopez not viable for now and Stewart pitching the past two days, it made sense to throw him out there. The FO's hubris with believing in Pagan costs this team another game. Though I will also add, failing to score the runner on 3rd with 0 outs in the 7th IIRC was unacceptable. Why is hitting a sac fly so hard?!
  4. Too bad Biggio didn’t bunt like Dick wanted him to. That’s the downside to bunting!
  5. Pagan back in a high leverage outing… we may get another pagan sacrifice here!
  6. Since when are you not allowed to make a practice swing at the 7 second mark of the pitch clock? He was in the box!
  7. Random Blue Jays thought - the Dalton Varsho trade confused me at the time, and now looks even more questionable. He's an intriguing player but he's not that great of a hitter, and was moved for an elite catching prospect who's already starting in the bigs for Arizona, and Loudres Gurriel, who had a much better track record and is back on track as a great hitter. I'd be ticked off if I were a Jays fan.
  8. Tell ya what, I certainly did not see Michael Taylor hitting 9 HRs by this point... or by the end of the season!
  9. You want those two months of Eduardo Escobar back for full control of Jhoan Duran, just because he gave up a single run yesterday?! BTW, Eddie would not be helping this team right now with his subpar 670 OPS.
  10. Darn, it's hard to believe they couldn't even get a 2024 7th for him. This means they lose an extra $2M by cutting him rather than trading him because of the injury guarantee he had. I suppose teams just do not want to pay $9M for a RB who is more on the average side now. The Vikings now go into the season with the least talented RB room in the league, but RB is a position where a 5th or a 7th rounder like Chandler or McBride could pop off, so I don't hate the approach. I hope people don't have their expectations too high for 2023... because they're clearly taking a step back and gathering cap space for 2024. I don't think they win close to 13 games again.
  11. Just imagine the amount of heat he'd be taking if he were playing this crappily in New York or San Fran... especially on those atrocious 10 / 12 year deals they offered him.
  12. Heck of a start from Lopez, but completely wasted by the hitters so far.
  13. Yup, back then we were dying for good pitching so we could finally contend. Alas, now the tables have turned.
  14. I don't think the roster is close to being great, they have several deficiencies in the lineup and the bullpen. The lineup was questionable from the start and has too many injury-prone players. Too many backup-caliber players are playing full-time roles and many situations are out of control of the coaching staff (Buxton not in CF, Wallner at AAA, Kepler still on the team are front office / collaboration decisions). IMO The biggest issue with the coaching staff is the fact that they hired an unqualified batting coach who is likely in over his head.
  15. I was referring to how the Astros tweaked Pressly's pitch choice and quickly turned him from a good reliever to a great one. Yeah, and that could also happen with Cano, but my point was that if Rooker did sustain his elite hitting, I wouldn't necessarily be mad at the Twins because the Padres couldn't figure him out, DFA'd him, then the Royals couldn't, and so on.
  16. Good point, it's simply lazy to criticize the team for the likes of Hendriks and Tonkin (Brent Rooker is a shorter example that still applies to me) when they went through several years of irrelevancy with other teams. With the likes of Pressly and Cano who quickly flipped a switch with their next team, that's where I'm a bit concerned.
  17. Lopez looks like he needs a trip to the IL to figure out what the heck is going on...
  18. At least there is competition this time around, and I had Podlesny as the top rated UDFA kicker (for what that's worth). Ryan Wright came out of nowhere last year to win the punting job, though I suspect that the Vikings value Joseph's ability to hit 50+ yard kicks and Podlesny was 2/4 in his entire career from that range.
  19. Here's my latest depth chart with the PFF ratings:
  20. Still waiting for action on the Dalvin Cook front... it is unclear if they are still trying to get him to take a pay cut or if they will trade him but just need to negotiate how much $$$ they'll eat. It doesn't seem like cutting him is on the table at this point.
  21. Wild to see this lineup down Buxton, Correa, and Kepler rip off 3 runs like that... Royce Lewis might just be the sparkplug this team needs. Bump him up in the lineup, especially over Kepler, please!
  22. I'm not arguing for it in hindsight, it's simply too bad it didn't happen today. Especially after we had two full pages of bickering about keeping Varland in for the 8th in yesterday's game recap thread.
  23. Too bad Rocco didn't opt for the quick hook this time around...
  24. I think it'd be fair if those 3 pitchers made it and nobody else, seems pretty cut and dry.
  25. What does SRO stand for?
