    If Pat Reusse is to be believed, he claims that Levine's contract was up. If true it's not quite a firing, but it's not as if he is immediately taking another job. They're essentially letting him go into free agency. Still have no idea what he was doing in comparison to Falvey, but I don't mind them letting go some of the current minds in the organization. But it's hard to claim that his replacement will make much difference.

    That "what's next" segment was pretty funny, and despite being satire half of that will probably come through.

    It's confirmation that Baldelli is doing what the front office wants him to, unless the salary of a new manager would be that prohibitive. Despite the multiple collapses, questionable bullpen decisions, and consistent lack of fundamentals, he is their guy. Which points to the root issue - the Falvine regime. Would a new manager of theirs really change things so drastically? Nothing will change until the root issue is addressed.

    I find it mind-blowing that this team at no point had an average to above average left-handed pitcher. Thielbar continuing to stink and Funderstunk returning reminded me of this. This front office has to reevaluate how they acquire relievers outside of the farm season. They had better not run into 2025 with just Funderburk, Headrick, and some DFA pickups and cross their fingers.

    I'm not opposed to it, but it's just reminiscent of coaching changes in other sports. The Vikings from Frazier to Zimmer, for example. Went from the most soft spoken coach in the game to good ol' fire and brimstone, and it worked for a hot second.

    Ah yes, the classic sports coaching cycle. Fire and brimstone manager works wonders for a couple seasons, then the players get sick of him and he gets canned for a players-first manager. That works for a bit until the team becomes too undisciplined, then the cycle repeats again.

    He's not in charge of roster moves. I believe the majority of managers in baseball aren't.

    This is it... two guys on down two runs in the 8th. Gotta get this game tied at least.

    They've also been a hot-and-cold team. Cold at the start and end of the season, and got hot in May-July. The difference in at-bats we've seen from then to now is monumental. I had this team at around 85-86 wins so reaching close to that isn't a shock, it's just the way the season has gone has been full of twists and turns.

    Even with that win, the Red Sox are still 3.5 games back with 6 games to go. That's really hard to make up.

    Hard to believe this team traded a prospect for Margot... and then continued to field him when he was well past the point where he should have been DFA'd. And yet Rocco puts him in the #1 spot and keeps Larnach and Wallner on the bench... ugh.

    He actually did this in one start last year, put up 300 yards and 2 TDs IIRC. He's a top tier backup and Bryce Young is really, really bad. He's made his supporting cast look worse than they are. He's in danger of topping out as an average at best QB, which is not great for being the #1 pick, but made way worse by getting paid like a top tier QB. They are going to rue that contract. He deserved a Baker Mayfield-esque deal based on his play. And yes, taking Travon Walker over Aidan Hutchinson was a major blunder. And that's not hindsight, it was obvious in the draft process that Hutchinson was absolutely the better prospect. Their GM is one of the worst in the game. And dang, Bengals-Commies game was the first in 80 years not to have a punt or a turnover. I thought the Bengals defense was better than this, they're gonna finish in last place in their division if they don't find a way to step it up. Great game from Jayden Daniels, nice to see a rookie QB having a great game.

    There is a world of difference between the impact NFL coaches have on games compared to managers in baseball, and to some extent basketball and hockey. The differences in preparation for a game / how scheming offense and defense works / and so many other things make it folly to even compare to the two. In football you can scheme around bad players to a degree, feed your star players the ball, etc, but you can't do that in baseball. A hitter has to hit when he's up to bat and a pitcher has to pitch and the amount of strategy involved by the manager is lesser by several magnitudes.

    Yeah, keep the staff who are running the draft process and purge the rest. The whole organization needs to do some serious soul-searching.

    I said it was dumb and a bad call by Rocco, but Sands and Tonkin were also garbage. It's one thing if that one reliever imploded, but all of them are stinking it up.

    Using Irvin like that was dumb, but what are the alternatives? Jax and Duran are the only consistent relievers in the pen. All of them allowing multiple baserunners is unavoidable. A better manager doesn't fix bad relievers and this roster is full of them. And Alcala being in AAA for some reason isn't Rocco's fault. Having 0 capable lefty relievers is also not his fault.

    Can't blame Rocco for using Sands, who is de facto one of his best relievers in the pen who just so happened to implode. This just simply isn't a viable bullpen.

    I was at the game... good gravy, what a beating the Texans took. This Vikings squad is legit and it gives me 2017 vibes. This might be the #1 defense in the game.

    Heck of a game from this pitching staff, considering they gave up only 2 runs when the Sox had 3 innings with a runner at 2nd to start. They won this game.

    7 straight hitters have failed to move the runner. Embarrasing!
