    Feels like Twins Daily is always due for an article titled like this to jinx something later in the day a few times every year. 😉

    I'd prefer they'd go BPA rather than drafting to fill their current needs. The DT/RB classes are deep and will probably have a guy on the board that will be worth pick #97. It's a bad iOL class and middling CB/S class comparatively. I would like to start developing another Day 3 safety with the way we keep hitting on them, as well as another body at WR. It'd help if they could trade down and pick up another 3rd or 4th rounder. The guy they take at #97 is more than likely not going to help the 2025 team right away, so I'm fine taking an RB who is there to play a big role in 2026 - and potentially mix with Mason if Jones misses games, which I suspect will happen.

    You would think they'd want him off the 40 man roster to open up spots for other players. Not that they'd need that right away, but come mid-season and you have guys on the 10 day IL, you will want that spot.

    It's "up to $12M" which usually means it is a 2/$7M unless the player hits hard to reach incentives, and if they do then they are worth the extra money. Feels like a steal for a very solid RB whose skillset is a great match for Jones'. He can take some of the workload and his bigger body is perfect for wearing down defenses while Jones can be more of the home-run hitter and handle 3rd downs, recovering Mason's shortcomings. I also wouldn't rule out spending a 3rd or other pick on a RB given how deep this class is, and the odds are Jones does not have two quality years left so they may need to pair someone with Mason in 2026.

    They also have a big need at RB2 so that Jones doesn't have another career high in touches again, his body is not going to be able to handle another workload this big. Thankfully, this is the perfect RB draft class to dip into.

    If we're covering intangibles, then we also have to talk about his lack of focus which led to getting picked off bases or caught in between, and also making mistakes when throwing the ball into the infield. Sometimes he was infuriating to watch. I am glad he was able to be part of the World Series run with the Braves, but I have a hard time seeing the argument that paying him was the right move given the numbers he put up through the rest of his career.

    Not anymore! Murphy is now the 4th highest paid CB in the game. The CB market exploded today, and the demand more Murphy went through the roof. He is a nice player but not a CB1 so this is a massive overpay. I wonder if they felt they had to do this or be forced to spend their 1st rounder on a CB.

    Ryan Kelly signed to a 2/$18M deal, considerable upgrade to Bradbury at center. Slow going for the Vikings so far, but the deals flying around have been crazy. Pedestrian players are getting massive deals and "good" players are getting "great" contracts. I like the Rodgers move over bringing in a 30+ vet like Shaq Griffin, PFF loves him but he's never held down a starting job. Kelly will be worth the money if he can stay healthy. They still need at least one guard, one more CB, and an interior pass rusher at a minimum. Jonathan Allen is in town meeting with the team, but I'm not high on him as he hasn't been good for 2 years. Would be like a classic Twins signing, a 30 year old who hasn't been good in multiple years... I think that's just Ty France. For the draft, I'm thinking DL Round 1 and RB Round 3 still makes the most sense. They have to pair Aaron Jones with somebody better than Akers/Chandler to keep his usage down. For perhaps once all the money has been spent, a bargain option at RB will appear. I don't think a single non-backup RB has signed in FA yet.

    It only cost a 2nd because it required giving him a massive deal. They probably fetch a 1st + more if they didn't have to pay up like that. He's still behind Dak Prescott's $60M. Allen already had 4 years under contract so I'm not sure if those $55M seasons are coming way down the road or if it's actually a pay raise for the next 4 years.

    I don't think he will get that chance here, I believe the front office sees him as a AAAA player who could be an easy DFA to make room on the 40 man at some point in the year. I'd love to see him defy the odds, but I've seen this song and dance with other fringe prospects who looked good at AAA.

    That's a lot of money for a guy who turns 31 this year. That's more guarantees than Josh Jacobs got in a 4 year deal with the Packers and it makes him the 6th highest paid RB in the league. NFL cap inflation is gonna be a thing that we will witness the next few days, but I'm still not a fan of this move. They have to pair him with a RB2 or he will break down again by the end of the season - if not quicker now that he's older.

    Looks like Tonkin could be starting on the IL, so there is a path to keep Castellano to start with. I could see Blewett cracking the roster. I don't know about Miranda, Lee, and Julien all being on the roster with France solidified as the starting 1B. I would send Lee to AAA to get consistent PAs every day in this scenario.

    Tonkin and Topa with shoulder injuries? Yikes. Looks like Tonkin will not be on the Opening Day roster, and Topa's health just isn't holding up. Good to hear that Zebby is in good shape. I don't know much about hip flexors but I know a pitcher would much rather to be injured there than in the arm or shoulder.

    It's actually 1/$31M, I saw that 25M figure earlier tonight on Spotrac but then it updated to 31M. And the Raiders are now negotiating an extension for him that is expected to be in the $40-45M range... yikes. I think this is a bad move for them. Geno's a middle of the road QB, who was fine as a $25M per year QB, not in the 40s! I'm fairly confident that Seattle is going to land Darnold now, I doubt they make this move without having a clear idea of how to replace Geno. He's also a good fit in new OC Klint Kubiak's system. My guess is he gets 3/$105M (35 per year).

    The notable thing on Theo Jackson is that it's a "2 year extension through 2027", meaning that they must have given him a (probably low) RFA tender for 2025 and put 2/$12M on top of that. Once we see the contract details, it's going to look more reasonable and will be a bargain if he can be a solid starter, of which I think he can absolutely be.

    I was surprised to see Lewis at #9, but then scanning the rest of the list, I get it. Feels like there is a big drop-off after the top 8. Part of this is because of the number of prospects who graduated (or flunked out) last year. I am tempted to say the farm system looks weak on talent, but there are ebbs and flows.

    Alcala's numbers look similar, if not a bit better, but the Yankees wouldn't have DFA'd Tonkin if he was really pitching that well. Not to mention the Twins usage of the two made it abundantly clear that Alcala is more trusted, he was consistently pitching in games within 3 runs usually around the 6th and 7th inning, whereas Tonkin was a mop-up man, with 54% of his appearances coming in games winning or losing by 4+ runs. Alcala pitched in those situations 17% of the time.

    I disagree, break camp with the best roster possible - Winning games in April is every bit as important as winning games in August/September. If Castellano isn't going to be a viable option in the pen, either work out a trade for his rights or send him back. And I don't get the fascination with Tonkin, we will be able to find a AAAA reliever like him on the waiver wire at any point in the season.

    I would have preferred to stick with the backups they had on the roster, Quessenberry has been a fine backup in the past and had been the swing tackle for the past two years. I understand that wouldn't have been a popular move, but Cam Robinson is an overrated player whom Jacksonville had benched for Walker Little and it would have been hard for Quessenberry to be worse in those final two games (Robinson gave up 21 pressures against the Lions/Rams!). Another move that was thrown around was Brandel to LT and Risner to his natural position of LG.

    I forgot about the 7th, but the conditions were most likely hit to make it a 4th round pick: Robinson only missed about 60 snaps against the Bears and then played the entire rest of the season, so in all likelihood the Jags got our 2026 4th. So in both trades the other team got a future 4th - one for a pedestrian LT and one for a still very good LG.

    It frustrates me to see Thuney go for exactly what we got for half a season of a mediocre LT in Cam Robinson, who was every bit as bad as Darnold those final two games.

    The last stand may be over, now that he's sidelined with a shoulder injury. A while back I called Canterino the "new Nick Burdi" based on his injury history, but I think he has redefined that role. Here's hoping Prielipp can avoid this fate.

    The past few years, the "fringe" 40 man prospects usually get a full season on the roster and then get removed after the season is over (see Yunior Severino, Blayne Enlow). I don't think they flippantly put him on the roster. Fernando Romero had legitimately great stuff, not sure what exactly went wrong there. IIRC some of it was off-the-mound issues.
