    I’m not as enthusiastic as most here about this list. A bunch of college guys between 22-24 having “good” seasons at A ball or even AA isn’t really spectacular. They should be performing well at those levels. We will see as they start to move up.

    I think people are getting ahead of themselves worrying about Buxton. If he makes the roster it will be as a DH against lefties and / or a pinch hitter. And if Lewis can’t play in the field then he is the dh and Buck sits the first round. I just gotta say the negativity towards Buck is a little much. The guy is injury prone not an axe murderer. By all accounts he puts himself through a lot just to try and take the field and people are acting like he’s sitting on the beach somewhere.

    Agreed. I just think it’s unexpected. Phoenix is number two.

    Ryan did not look that good. When you have two other choices for that 3rd spot it makes for a really tough decision as there is no longer any margin for error. I just hope the pitching plan is based on what is happening now not from an analytics plan derived over really large samples.

    At this point I would have Stewart as a primary set up go over Jax. Also Floro has been dfad which doesn’t lend credibility to the article.

    That turn by Polo was a thing of beauty. There is so much that goes into a good double play combo. Little things like letting the ball come to you with both hands together (the ball travels faster than your hands). Julien frequently reaches his glove out to full extension to grab the ball and then has to bring them together which is way slower.

    I believe framing is a thing (back in the old days it was called soft hands or being a good receiver). What I don’t believe is that it is quantifiable. It’s probably more important than ever with some of the absolute horse crap home plate umpiring we see now. I’ll take the extra oomph in Jeffers bat and only start Vasquez to give him a break.

    I think Maeda is better than Ryan but it is very close. The combo of Ryan starting and Maeda coming out of the pen is probably a little better than Maeda starting and Ryan coming out of the pen which he has never done. I guess we will find out. If the Twins win the series and Maeda isn’t used he could still start the first game of the second round.

    I get your point but I think the question is very different for Lee compared to Martin. Martin has had some success at AAA which as you point out all he can do. Lee has not to date and isn’t worth burning the 40 man spot and option.

    As noted above it will be very interesting to see how far they let the starters go. The rotation is this team’s greatest strength and the bullpen its biggest weakness. I hope they have faith in the starters.

    This rotation is historically strong. It likely means we will be in every game and might even steal one of Lopez twirls a gem. We will see if we can score some runs. I also think it will be interesting to watch our new bullpen and how guys like Varland and Paddack are used compared to Jax and Pagan.

    Noticed that as well. I kind of think it is a coin flip between Maeda Ryan and Ober. Maedas bullpen success was many years ago so I don’t think we should assume similar performance but it would be nice.

    I think there is a decent chance Lewis is your CF next year. Problem solved. Julien dh and I’m not worried about Martin or Gordon. They can fit in wherever. Build your lineup by putting yours studs at their best defensive positions and fill in the rest.

    He’s not really looking like an attractive 4th outfielder and he does make a ton of mistakes on the bases and in the field.

    Like always it seems with this FO I see this as a mixed bag. If we are talking about strictly the trade deadline then I guess they were right. On the other hand it took 3 rookies coming up and firing right out of the gate to rescue the poor lineup of the first have. I would say that’s damn lucky but then again they drafted and developed those three rookies. With better management in the off season we wouldn’t even be asking the question.

    I bet it will be third base with Royce playing second or CF.

    A little harsh but true. There isn’t a lot of upside with Celestino and the 40 man spot might be needed. That was a bad trade.

    Buxtons likely role will be dh against a lefty and pinch hitter. Much rather have him doing that than Luplow.

    We do realize that Duran has been one of the top relievers in baseball for two years right?

    Congratulations to the team and more importantly the fans. I’m going to enjoy this for a day or two and then come back to reality. Which is we slid into the easiest playoff spot possible. Enjoy the playoffs and then expect our FO to do substantially better next year.

    Without having too much info…but it seems like he may not be above average at any position. Kind of like if you have two quarterbacks you actually have no quarterbacks. I like guys to settle in their best defensive position and get good at it.

    Kenta would take the QO in a heartbeat. I can’t see anyone offering a contract through his age 39 season.
