  1. The article implies that the Twins were seriously considering bringing them back and opted not to at the last minute. The Twins didn’t even consider bringing them back which was the correct decision. Gray said as much in yesterday’s Trib. He knew right away they weren’t going after him. The idea that the saved money was critical to building the lineup is just false. It was the largest chunk of the $30 million payroll reduction.
  2. Did not realize Gonzalez had such a good arm. Also excited about DeAndrades ability in the field. Watching a smooth SS is a great pleasure.
  3. I think it’s time for people to temper their expectations for Raya. He’s just not that good at least so far. I think prospect ranking is propping up how people judge him.
  4. And there is no such thing as a low leverage reliever.
  5. Me too. I saw that and cussed. The $115 a month that I pay Direct TV just isn’t enough.
  6. I look at this as an opportunity. Max has been a good fielder but average to below average hitter especially right field. If the Twins want to score more runs or score more consistently then the corner outfield spots and first base are the places to improve. How or will they is a different question. I always had high hopes for Max as a hitter just because of that sweet swing. Guess there is more to hitting than having a sweet swing (see Kiriloff, Alex). I wish Max well and hope he has a good finish to his career.
  7. Do you think Correa would waive his no trade?
  8. Part of it is a little regression. He allowed zero homers up until recently and now he has given up 5. He’s a pleasant surprise in my book.
  9. My guess is due to payroll issues we might have to choose between Santana and Castro. I will take Castro without hesitation.
  10. We will see. Half of that (roughly I go from memory) is from last year with a 374 babip. I hope he turns into Rod Carew but this book is in its first chapter.
  11. Plus I think the minor league affiliates are done around Labor Day. AAA goes until mid September I think so options for a rehab assignment are pretty limited.
  12. Another good pitching success story. He seems to waver a bit in high leverage situations but he has gone AAAA to a bona fide major league reliever in a couple years.
  13. We will find out after 1000 at bats. People refer to his “talent” which I’m not sure of. He doesn’t seem overly athletic to me rather he developed a unique hitting style. His defensive limitations put more pressure on the bat to perform. I doubt he will ever be as good as last year and probably is better than what he has shown this year. I wish him well because he is going to have to hit at a pretty high level to stay in the bigs.
  14. You are correct in that when the contact play is on and you are a dead duck your job is to get into a rundown so other runners can advance. But this team is fundamentally not sound and these types of mistakes happen nearly every game. Alcala had a rough game but nobody is talking about the errors we’ve made to end the last two games.
  15. No kidding. I didnt say release them simply that they shouldn’t be counted on as starters.
  16. Here is an interesting scenario. Let’s assume they bring Santana back (I’m not sure I would but the guy has been pretty good). Then it almost makes sense to have Miranda at third Lee at second and Royce in left field. If they don’t bring Santana back then Miranda gets first and Royce and Brooks cover second and third with Lee getting whatever the FO considers the more important position. I would in no way count on Kiriloff or Julien in my plans.
  17. To make matters worse he hasn’t been that good either. I’m sure the Twins would love to dump him on somebody next year. That trade is really looking no bueno.
  18. Off the bench and makes that play. Outstanding Willi.
  19. He wouldn’t have hit that with a canoe paddle.
  20. The Twins are good for at least one bonehead play per game. Sometimes several. We are up to two tonight with a couple innings to go.
  21. I also agree. I would have added him instead of Julien and let him play CF against righties until Buxton gets back and maybe longer.
  22. Nope. When he came up he had the traditional crouch. There are still plenty of catchers that have a traditional crouch.
