    3 way parlay: Buxton, Correa and Lewis all play 110 or more games. Should get some nice odds on that. I would take the over at 83.5 big time. I know we are all frustrated with the off season but this club does have some upside.

    Respectfully disagree. It’s been 9 years and they were in charge of their drafting philosophy and who they traded. The guys that have made it to the bigs are poor defenders and don’t run well, and some aren’t proven with the bat.

    I keep posting this because it seems we either don’t care or are unaware. The Twins farm system has produced precious little for quite a long time. It’s a big underlying problem.

    I don’t believe that Lewis has had Tommy John surgery. I do agree that it is too soon to assume he has permanent throwing problems.

    Your last sentence sums up the problem nicely. The problem isn’t Bader or France per se, the problem is that not enough talent has been produced by our farm system. Even the so called success stories are guys that can’t run or field particularly well. We place lots of things under the microscope on this site but this seems to have flown under the radar a bit.

    I like this. It’s amazing how many endless debates there have been on these boards over who is an ace or who is a number 12345 starter and never once has anybody cared to define what the debate was about 😀

    Does a change in tv revenue sharing have to be collectively bargained with the players union? If not, a great first step would be to pool all tv revenue and divide equally. Each franchise still keeps all other revenue so a well run franchise will still be rewarded, I know the top 4-6 teams will balk at this so here is the next part of the plan: the rest of the teams charge any team not in the revenue sharing a participation tax equal to the amount of the missing revenue sharing. Don’t want to pay the tax? Great. You can play the other 4 non revenue sharers 162 times a year while the other 28 teams have a real league with roughly equal revenue. I know this is a long shot idea but something has to change.

    Of all the comments on this topic this sums it up best for me. And as much as I try to stay neutral on Falvey the actual results after 9 years is just not going to cut it.

    I would hope and guess that if Miranda looks good this spring France will not be a factor in his playing time.

    I e always felt that Buck is limiting himself as a hitter when he starts with his hands so high. The bat travels a long way to get to the hitting zone which means he is going to punish some pitches but have difficulty making adjustments on other pitches.

    Of course we would have to define ace to be able to discuss this. Joe has improved and is much better than I thought he would be and I’ve been a fan since day 1. Put whatever label you want - to me he’s just a really good pitcher who I hope stays healthy. The rest will take care of itself.

    Correct. His time spent on the IL takes away more innings than Rocco’s plan.

    I believe this is the essence of the old Casey Stengel saying about how to swing a bat “not too fast, not too slow, just butcher boy”. Whatever that means.

    I think this topic is more complicated than who can generate the fastest swing speed. Who can generate the fastest swing speed while maintaining the proper mechanics of their swing is the real winner. Kind of like the old saying “he’s swinging out of his shoes” would indicate the first priority it to be able to barrel the ball.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if the payroll number was $140+ but Falvey had to wait for the bargain bin to fill. Or it’s a lower number and the subtractions will soon start.

    Interesting- thanks. There is another aspect to this. While swinging a heavier bat supplies more for the mass part of the equation for some guys swinging a lighter bat at greater velocity results in the most force. Each player has to find their optimal combination. One of the Twins greats, Harmon or Tony switched to a lighter bat towards the end of the season for this reason.

    Has anybody heard whether Twins TV has been picked up by DirectTv? Or Sling for that matter.

    But are they really good at developing pitching and outfielders? 9 years and our outfielders prize is Larnach and Wallner? Pitching is Ober, Jax and Sands? To me this is their big problem - IMO they aren’t really good at player development. Hence hey we can plug this hole with Ty France or Harrison Bader.

    If you take a step back and look at it, the Twins having to pursue this strategy most years tells me they have a player development problem. It’s understandable this will happen occasionally with all teams but the Twins are forced to do this way too much.

    Would have been nice had they did when, you know, good players were available to sign.

    So I’ve been neutral on Falvey appreciating the system upgrades and ability to hire good coaches. I’ve always felt he has been too rigid in some of his beliefs to adapt and improve. This signing just gives me the sinking feeling that he is wedded to a process whose ceiling is barely making the playoffs but with no real shot to make a World Series much less win one. Do I think Miranda is going to be a great hitter? I doubt it but a good chance he is a decent or better hitter. We all know what France is and it ain’t putting us over the top.
