  1. Looks like a swap of bad contracts. Just going by $$$, looks like Seattle saves about $25 million over the next three years (I'm assuming Ray doesn't opt out.) Giants are probably crossing their fingers and hoping Ray returns to form and gives them at least one good year out of the remaining three of his contract. It's kind of a big gamble for the Giants. Even before his surgery, Ray's career has been kind of up and down.
  2. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/braves-red-sox-trade-chris-sale-for-vaughn-grissom.html I actually think the Sox got the better of this one. I guess it all depends on what you think of Grissom. I know I'll catch a lot of flack on this board for saying this, but he's the same age as Brooks Lee and you could argue he has similar, if not better, minor league numbers.
  3. He literally pitched only 11 innings for the Twins, yet after the allegations came out, all the news articles showed pictures of him in a TWINS UNIFORM. Lovely.
  4. I've come to peace with R.D. I think the guy was just flat out over used. There were a couple years where he pitched over 100 innings as a reliever. You would never see that today. He was a slightly better than average reliever being forced into high leverage situations because the Twins had no one else.
  5. Plus the Twins missed winning the division by one game that year. Having Johan in the rotation sure would have been nice, but who dwells on such things.....
  6. I say be done with Balley's. Turn the production over to MLB. They have experience with MLB Network and are generally good at it. Offer the MLB.tv app without the local blackout restrictions, and to whatever extent the local cable networks and TV affiliates are willing to pay to air some or all of the games, great. Everyone will have access (it won't necessarily be free, but that's not happening). The Twins would probably have to leave money on the table, but this is where this is all eventually headed anyway, so why not just bite the bullet now. Better access should yield returns down the road.
  7. The issue with Castillo is that he's still owed as much as $125 million. The Twins wouldn't go there for Sonny Gray, I doubt they would open the safe for Castillo. The Mariners would have to contribute $$ to make it doable.
  8. What about Emerson Hancock? True, he will not replace Sonny Gray, but it would give the Twins some depth with a young controllable arm. Maybe Polanco for Hancock and a lower tier prospect?
  9. Interesting, but not happening. Orioles are looking for starting pitching help, same as the Twins. There's no way they trade Kremer. The Twins are in a tough spot. It's rare that decent starters are made available. If someone like Luzardo or Gilbert are dangled on the trading block (and I doubt they will be) there are 10 playoff contenders willing to bite.
  10. It's been a slow off-season. We need something to over analyze and critique until the next minor league signing.
  11. Especially when it involves the White Sox. They've indicated they are going into a rebuild, so why give that money to a guy who won't be around when they're competitive again?
  12. As you alluded to, they seem to be able to find guys, but they let them slip through their fingers. Add Cano and Zach Littell to that list. I never understood letting Coulombe get away. When he wasn't on the IR, he pitched well for them. It was a dumb decision at the time, and it has looked worse with age.
  13. I think Keller would be a great get, but a package centered around Wallner is not gonna get it done. Think of what the Twins had to give up for Pablo Lopez. I think it's unlikely Keller is even available. There would be riots in Pittsburgh. I could maybe see Keller being shopped at the trade deadline if he can't work out an extension with the Pirates.
  14. Camargo will eventually get a chance to prove himself. There will be injuries.
  15. This article is spot on. Trading Vasquez would be one of the dumbest things they could do this off-season.
  16. I think this article nicely sums up the situation. I just have two quick comments... 1. I would not consider Brooks Lee untouchable. If the season started today, the Twins would not have a spot for him in the infield, and he will be someone that trade partners would want. 2. I'm sure this has been discussed to death on other threads, but why not have Julien play first, like they did with Arraez? It would hurt to lose his OBP.
  17. Does anyone know what the compensation will be for the Twins? I assume the Twins will get a pick between the first and second round, but I could be mistaken.
  18. I guess that's what it comes down to. Maybe one or both will have a bounce back year, in which case the Cards are getting a good deal, but both are 36. At some point there will be further regression and injuries.
  19. Yeah, I'm not sure what the Cards overall strategy is. But hey, if this is the way they want to go, Dallas Keuchel is still available!
  20. If this is Maeda's last contract, it'll be a nice payday to end his career.
  21. Here's the link.... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/cardinals-expected-to-finalize-deal-with-sonny-gray.html It says the Cardinals are "Expected" to finalize a deal. Who knows what that means.
  22. Yeah, that seems perfectly reasonable. I actually thought he would get more. Maybe the Twins are aiming higher.
  23. Since you brought up the issue of the remotely located Family Value concession stands.....why do they only sell normal sized hot dogs at the lone, hard to find, value concession stand. I don't want the "Big Dog". I just want a normal hot dog.
  24. The Twins lucked out with injuries to their catchers last year. They will need at least 3 halfway decent catchers to start the season. I, for one, do not want to see them having to give at bats to guys like Sandy Leon down the stretch. Bottom line, unless someone is willing to take his entire contract, I don't see how this makes sense for the Twins.
