  1. I don't think 3/$60 million is going to get it done. That's basically what Bassitt got last year, and Sonny Gray is coming off a better season. It's probably gonna be at least 3/$75 million. I don't think I would go there given his age, but I don't think that will fit into the Twins payroll anyway, so it's a moot point. This is Gray's last and best shot at a big deal. He will hit the market. Good for him, bad for the Twins.
  2. "Brooks Lee is likely off the table." I don't think anyone should be off the table. The Twins will most likely get priced out of the free-agent market, so that leaves a trade. To get something good you have to give up something good (see Lopez -Arraez). If the Twins had any success developing pitching they wouldn't be in this situation. But it is what it is.
  3. If Gordon batted right he would be a no brainier. That said, I 'd be inclined to keep him. He would essentially be taking Stevenson's spot, and has more versatility. Of course, a lot depends on how confident the Twins are that Buxton will be ready by spring training.
  4. As you stated, the Twins were very fortunate on the injury front with regards to their catchers this past season. I suspect one of the reasons they signed Vasquez was because they didn't want to end up in a position like they were in 2022, when Sandy Leon was having to get a fair number of at bats down the stretch. For that reason, I don't see Vasquez going anywhere.
  5. I saw that this morning. Not good. In the articles I saw it didn't say anything about motive. This has Dateline NBC written all over it.
  6. I'm curious to see how his career plays out. The opinions about him are so varied. Some think he's the second coming of Babe Ruth, while others think he'll be the 103rd overall pick in a Rob Deer league.
  7. I didn't think the Mahle trade was bad at the time. It would have been a good trade.....if he had actually pitched for the Twins. The big question is whether the front office should have been more cautious given his recent injury history. I'm not a medical expert so I can't opine on whether they missed or ignored any red flags.
  8. He has shown he can be an effective bullpen arm, but after two elbow surgeries can he maintain his velocity and control over 30 starts and 150+ innings? I'm rooting for him, but the Twins better have a plan B.
  9. I am one of those who believes there's at least some degree of luck that goes into a post-season run. You can do everything right, but it ultimately comes down to who's healthiest and who's on a hot streak. The Orioles, Dodgers, Rays, and Braves all had the best records, but they all had injuries to key pitchers down the stretch. The Twins will need to replace Sonny Gray, but if someone gets hurt, or the young guys don't step up, they could easily finish behind Cleveland and Detroit.
  10. I saw some earlier comments about how the Twins need more veteran hitters. Today they had only two rookies in the lineup (Julien and Lewis). Those two combined for 3 hits (including 2 hrs) and 2 walks. That was the entirety of the Twins offense. None of the veterans reached base.
  11. Especially when you consider he was throwing that change every other pitch. They were constantly out front and couldn't make the adjustments.
  12. Agreed, but that's going to be the challenge. They need to resign/replace Sonny Gray, and I don't know how how that's gonna happen. Not many options out there and maybe not as much payroll room as people think.
  13. The really sad thing is everything was lining up well for the Twins. We owned Texas in the regular season, and that was before they lost Scherzer.
  14. Is it just me, or does it seem like every time there's a big crowd at Target Field the Twins just don't show up
  15. His last two at bats he was trying to get walk. Just a mess at the plate, as were many of the Twins hitters
  16. Another pat on the head and participation trophy for the Twins.
  17. Rocco can't resist a chance to over manage. Going to the pen in the 3rd? The more pitchers they use, the more chance that at least one of them won't be that sharp today.
  18. They're a good team, but I don't understand how they won 101 games with that rotation. Reminiscent of the 2019 Twins.
  19. They needed a better start from Ober. He was up in the zone the entire time he was pitching. He has to utilize the entire strike zone.
  20. A tough task ahead, but it's the playoffs. There are no easy series left.
  21. I don't think Paddock has shown enough to be on the playoffs roster. He showed some encouraging signs yesterday, but he did give up three runs to a really bad lineup. Also, do the Twins want to risk him overdoing it just coming off elbow surgery? He's a part of their plans going forward. Why risk it if he hasn't proven he can be a difference maker at this point in the season.
  22. At this point there's really no reason to play Correa these last two weeks. Let him sit and hope his foot improves at least somewhat by October.
  23. Odd that it's Luplow and not Stevenson.
  24. I like Arraez, and I think the Twins have missed him, but it's a trade they almost had to make. I thought the comment in the article from Mr. Sussman about how the Marlins have more success developing pitching than hitting is interesting. The Twins organization is the exact opposite. If Balazovic, Woods-Richardson, Dobnak,,,etc,,, had been knocking on the door this year, or if Paddock hadn't had TJ surgery, then maybe the Twins don't have to make that trade. The trade became even more necessary when you consider both Gray and Maeda are pending free agents.
