What about John castino , Pete Redfern , Jim eisenrich and some others who were promising prospects but injury ended some careers before they really got started ,,, Can't ignore past prospects if there was no top prospects list back then .... We didn't need prospects list back then because we used the eye test .... Jim eisenrich went on in Kansas city to a career after battling nervous disorders , think he was sold for a dollar , rumor has it ...... I wouldn't go as far to say mauer was one of the best player in a twin uniform ... Hometown boy that just didn't quite have what it took to LEAD the team to a world series ,,, contract wasn't his fault but he just didn't seem to have the bulldog emotions as a leader , I would have done more than just be an example on the field to lead ... If mauer wasn't a Hometown boy , maybe I wouldn't be hard on him if he played for another team

If Martin and Palacios have a strong start in minor leagues either definitely have a chance with the early start over 40 man roster players to open the season if there is not a shortstop added ..... Cantarino , winder and strotman if healthy and get off to strong starts , we do have 2 spots currently left to fill on 40 man roster and once the season starts and adding enlow and maeda to 60 day IL LIST that will be 2 more spots to fill on 40 .... some Minor league players from AA on up to AAA have a great opportunity to make opening day MLB roster if and when WE PLAY BALL

The Twins Need To Protect Mitch Garver
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do we protect him or trade him ,,, his trade value is probably the highest of any current player on the 40 man roster followed by arreaz, in arreaz first season arreaz proved he is a major leaguer ( to me anyway ) , most players take 3 years to know what you get ,,, The twins have to much surplus and they play out of their primary position and are inadequate in defense , you need super utility players and the twins don't really have that at the moment ... I'm for finding a position permanently for the players and not just to get them in the lineup ... Trade the surplus of players that do not have permanent position for pitching ... Where do we find at bats for miranda , he will start in AAA WHENEVER .. also martin probably will be the shortstop starting the season because the minor leaguers are training and playing and ahead of the 40 man roster , Palacios could also be the shortstop for 2022- 17 replies

Your 2022 Twins Sleeper Rotation Arm
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Someday I hope we can have hope that we have studs , aces and bulldogs to talk about ,, Will petty fit that bill .... For now I'll have to hope for the competitive baseball that front office has promised us and we will find out who the real sleeper is ... Just can't put a finger on a sleeper with minor league results -
Looking Back at Minnesota's One Hit Wonders
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't remember any 1 hit wonders that only had 1 hit in a twins uniform .. While reading this my mind wandered to Nolan Ryan and what player had a cup of coffee and his only hit ever in the major leagues came against the Ryan express ... That would be a great story to tell their grandchildren .. My only hit in the majors was against one of the best pitchers in the game and his name was Nolan Ryan ( Ryan express )- 7 replies

The Twins May Have Their Next Tyler Duffey
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Jax had some good success last year in twins uniform and his numbers in minors weren't all that bad +q¹q... watching him pitch I thought he could be suited better for the bullpen and dominate a couple of innings , it would be nice if he could generate more speed on the fast ball if moved to bullpen ,,, Jax is very intelligent and determined ,,, I think a move to the bullpen would be good for the twins ( bulldog determined ) ,,, The twins need starters so we'll see where he fits in to start A season -
How Can You be Romantic About Baseball?
Blyleven2011 commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
The jokes been on us since Manfreds letter to the fans back in December , maybe really since Manfred has been in office .... I haven't been a fan of his at all , i knew his labor lawyer status would be a downfall to baseball .... attendance is down across the leagues and have been decreasing for a number of years before covid 2020 ,,, the real loyal fans are leaving , owners have no real concept on how attract newer younger fans to the game ,, seems like their attitude is if it isn't broke don't fix it , well they better get their act together cause it's busted ,, ( I go to the games and I see the younger adults as partiers and not paying attention to the product on the field ) ( they are the last to give a hurrah ) ... I look at what they are bickering about and can't believe it from both sides .. This is a game both owners and players should love if they are devoted to the fans and not the money ..... Both sides have positives and both sides have negatives , plain and simple , figure it out and play ball .. parity and players non eligible for arbitration is necessary if for example I was in the players corners , I would stop the league from implementing new rules to the game that are supposed to shorten game times ,,, It's not happening in my eyes , play ball with analytics , cyber metrics but keep the strategy in place for the games to be exciting ,,, Some new rules maybe necessary in today's game but making a relief pitcher pitch to minimum 3 batters sucks , almost lost the game for Atlanta in world series against dodgers , strategy is almost non existence... I know some of this sounds like a double standard but I'd I was a played I'd fight for the game I love not just the money , If I was an owner I would fight for parity , the cbt is to high as it is for team parity and the players want it higher for the minority of teams that can afford it to pay them more free agent dollars per year . I took to long for lunch today- 8 comments

Minnesota twins Mount Rushmore from 1961 to present .... Killer , carew , Puckett , Blyleven , Oliva and kaat ... everyone but carew played on a world series Honorable mentions ... Sweet music viola , hrbek , Santana , perry , Kelly and a few more I'm forgetting during lunch hour Honorable mention but I would never put mauer on because of his inability to lead his home town team to a world series ,,, I never heard any praise from other players that mauer helped me with this and that , but players would say how Puckett, carew , Oliva, hunter ,cuddyer helped their careers , Mauer is my opinion and lots of folks loved him

How Can You be Romantic About Baseball?
Blyleven2011 commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
A right on review ,,,, It would be alot better if Manfred and owners loved the sport as much as the ( loyal fans ) did ,,, I'll take it another step though , it also seems like the players don't love what they do and I guess that is business now adays .... Fire Manfred and hire Ken Rosenthal who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the game .- 8 comments

Has Miguel Sano Met Expectations?
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No he has not met expectations with his streaky hitting .. His rookie season he was able to hit to all fields and was more a clutch hitter and has gone backwards on his approach since than with some injuries and demotions , maybe he should stop listening to all the advise like Buxton did and hit like sano used to hit ... -
Shifting Minnesota’s Defensive Focus in 2022
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Strategy is part of the game ,,, Allow the shift but keep it on the dirt . Adjustments ... Hitters need to make improvements hitting to all fields ,,,, What's the sense in paying 2 mlb hitting coaches a salary when all they tell you is loft and carry -
We need all three players and then some to get a jump start ahead of the 40 man roster ... A few minor leaguers not on 40 man roster could be on the opening day line up mlb roster if they perform with fast start ... I'd be okay with Palacios at Shortstop ,, reports are he is a very good defender ..... Will we be competitive and compete ... Are we rebuilding or structuring , it does seems like a total rebuild in the pitching department ..... But who knows exactly what the teams plan are .... We've been speculating this since July 31st after we traded berrios ....

Black History Month: The Soul Patrol

Lawton led team for a few years , I love his career stats that he walked more than he struck out ... now that is plate discipline .... what happened to hitters and batting coaches ... Be a good blog for someone that has the time to research hitters that have walked more than struck since the millennium- 5 replies

Today nobody takes responsibility for anything ,,, Manfred is a lawyer and before baseball he worked in a law firm as a labor and employment law lawyer ,,,, Like most failed lawyers that can't make money in their profession because they are incompetent they move into politics to make their money and screw things up ... Manfred moved into baseball and is now showing his true colors ,,, he lies just like a politician in his letters to the fans ... The letters are insincere and we need commissioner's and owners that love the game of baseball ,, Love of the game folks not love of Money .... this also is the players fault for their love of Money and not the love of the game ... Believe what you want to believe folks , it almost seems likely that neither side cares about the fans and the game ,,, 42 days to get to the bargaining table for economics is a crock and was a sure way to delay spring training for 40 man rosters

Opening day is scheduled March 31st 2022 ... With the lockout and delay on negotiating a new cba there will be no scheduled opening day .. it will be postponed for another day ,, sorry about the sarcasm

The Man that Brought Us Tomorrow Night!
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News

Great story ,,, I'd rather have stories than all this speculation during the lockout .... BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY , I would like our front office to tell us what the real plan is .. Someone please pin them down and get them to reach out to the fans and tell us ... Baseball is losing its best fans in attendance , they don't know how to market Baseball to draw more fans ...

Twins Sign Shortstop Tim Beckham
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Everytime I see a signing like this I think back when falvy and levine were hired on and cleaned house with all personal in minor leagues , scouting departments and trainers etc. Falvy quote not mine is .. We have replaced all personal in the organization with top quality professionals in all categories of positions ... Doesn't falvy or levine listen to there scouting personal or are they just inadequate at their position .... Again this does nothing to move the needle for the competitive stance they speak of ... Yes I see this as a depth piece for minors and not on the parent club .... I'd rather see Palacios ,,, everyone raves about his defense and his hitting made progress last year in the minors .. Palacios is eligible for the rule 5 draft and we could lose him if there is a rule 5 draft this year ... If he is still in the twins system I say play him at shortstop if defense is that good and hope the bat is better than Simmons .... Also if I was owner I wouldn't want to spend 400 thousand for a player just to play in the minors ,,,, but FO could be crossing their fingers and also their toes and hope Beckman can have a career year -

Stock Watch: 3 Rising Twins Prospects
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Miranda hits close 270 in mlb , gets on base and scores runs ,,, miranda should help excite the twins lineup ,, Twins change third base coach and hopefully that will help twins score more runs also , he was awful sending players to score , slow runners he sent and out by a mile , fast runners he stopped and we didn't score with no outs .. Varland I hope pans out but have heard he only right now has 2 pitches- 7 replies

Dreaming On Trevor Story to the Twins
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If there secretive in their plans , approach and budget to the coming season how does a normal fan have suggestions on roster . It's all speculation at that point ... Pohlad in my opinion is lessening the payroll this year because he lost money the past 2 season ( that is speculation ) because nobody has said a dang thing on strategy, plan and budget .. I don't like not being in the loop and I was a business owner and I lived by ... you can't make money all the time , BUT YOU BETTER MAKE MONEY MOST IF THE TIME .. So you lose money 2 years in arow , write it off and pray you don't lose money 3 years in arow ,,, Keep the payroll no less than last year going forward -
Dreaming On Trevor Story to the Twins
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thank for this well written post ... I really don't know how to respond to it though.. Without favey / levine and pohlads giving the fans a plan or a budget for 2022 its most likely that the team will be competitive with our prospects to fill the positions ... that's all I have heard from them that we the twins will be competitive in 2022 but haven't shown the fans any strategy , plan , solution or hope for a the season ,, 81 -81 is competitive , isn't going to happen if your a realist ,,,, our front office doesn't move the needle .... for this to happen .... We probably need a new owner that wants to spend for championships and hopefully loves the game , ridiculous to love money if you can't take it with you ,, Have fun and enjoy it
