Week in Review: Falling Flat
Blyleven2011 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Week in review couldn't have been said any better nick ... The twins have reverted back to playing possum ... Unexciting dead baseball , the plan our players have been exposed to will never be consistent winners ...- 16 replies

Not an unexpected result , I would agree with you ... The whole team is a pathetic , pitiful and piss poor except for the 2 good starts this week by woods richardson and paddack ... It's hard to watch and not to exciting but watching paddack pitch 8 innings was nice ...

The whole truth and nothing but the the truth ... Are the twins winners or losers , It's hard to come to any conclusion yet , we got to beat the better teams , Chicago and Anaheim are bad teams we took batting practice against them and built up some confidence ... We have to play better baseball against better teams and their starting pitchers ...

Defense is the game ... If your very good at defense you have a position on this team , for a few years Kepler was lost at the plate and everyone wanted him gone and twins stuck with him ... Vazquez has good skills behind the plate and a good repertoire with the pitchers , yes I wish he would hit better , I'll take his defense over his hitting ... Catching is the most important position of the team , or it used to be , catchers called the game , positioned players in the field , but today it's more of the dugout that has the control of the game , so it seems ... Vazquez is a decent defensive catcher ... Nice to hear he went to driveline over the winter to try and improve his game , so those that don't like Vazquez should be a little more positive that Vazquez is a team player ...

Arraez ( major leaguer ) was loved as a fan favorite in twins uniform because he hit like carew ... Arraez ( major leaguer ) is going to be just as loved by the Padres because he bats like Gwynn ... People are going to say his defense isn't equal to Carew and Gwynn , but you can't argue about the bat , love his style and professionalism ... Go Luis , good luck on another promising chapter ...

I would agree too , our spring training efforts are lacking in the preparation of the season ... It seems like they are very cautious about the main roster getting injured and the players just don't get enough game time repetitions to be ready for the season , plus they go from warm climate to colder climate , ( lame excuse ) ...

I'm still not totally convinced the twins have solved their problems ... Don't get me wrong the 10 game winning streak against white Sox , angels and white Sox, it was good batting practice against those teams to generate some confidence ... The first 2 games against Boston to extended the winning streak to 12 games helped me gain some confidence in the twins approach , hitting did come alive during the streak , strikeouts came down , doubles went up , solo Homer's do nothing for me ... What worries me most is the hitting , yes it's came alive but against bad teams , beating Castillo yesterday wasn't easy ,, they only managed 3 hits against him and the bullpen allowed the inherited runner to score 3 against him ,, the batters did make their hits count with back to back doubles , walk and a double , walk to load bases ,, Vazquez SF to score 1 run and then Margot single two score 1 run .... What concerns me is the hitting against good pitchers ... The point being is the hitters have to make the hits count and they did against Castillo, it wasn't easy ... We did have better pitching in the game , woods richardson was tremendous ...

Week in review ... I don't need the reminder especially when we are losing , but we need to vent ... Baseball is a team effort , and everyone is accountable starting with the owners , FO , coaches and manager , and the players ... The off season moves did not set us up to succeed this year , after last season of breaking our losing streak in the playoffs winning 2 in a row over toronto and 1 against Houston our wiz kids after the world series was over decided to let our free agent pitchers walk and tried to patch a rotation that hasn't any resemblance to last year rotation ... What kept us in the games last season while our hitting suffered for the first half ???? And who won some playoff games for the first time since 2004 ???? The answer is above average starting pitching ... Team effort , F ...

Sundays matinee game .... Decent crowd , sunny , perfect for baseball until the twins took the field ... Deflate gate in the first innings , varland walks first two batters and I guess we all knew it was going to be a long afternoon and twins load bases in bottom half of 1st inning with 1 out and failed to hit a sacrifice fly or clutch hit and I guess we really knew then it was going to be a really long day trying to mount a comeback ...... Varland , Worst I've seen him pitch , I think he gets 1 more start to figure out a new plan , he was definitely not confident in attacking the hitters ... Varland is a hard worker , can't give up on him as a starter quite yet , everyone knows he was impressive in the bullpen towards the end of last year and that could be his nitch , but not yet ...

Why do the twins make it so difficult to win a ball game , it should be a lot easier than today's game ... They get the lead off man on each inning until the sixth , They do score but all runs were scored by a sacrifice fly , a hit and maybe we would have had a larger lead ... Some people say a win is a win ...

I don't really know what to say that I haven't said before ... The ALC opposition strengthened in the off season and the twins reduced payroll and quality starting pitching was let go and not replaced , we traded switch hitting Polanco for a injured pitcher , ( desclafini out for the season ) , topa ( injured and only 1 successful mlb season ) and a prospect and replaced Polanco with free agent switch hitting Santana , we traded a shortstop prospect for Margot to cover a position of uncertainty ( buxton ) ... We addressed the bullpen and on paper it looks solid ... The regime likes power and we didn't address that , we are not a Homerun hitting team , solo Homer's make no difference , clutch 3 run Homer's are the game changer ... Last but not least the front office didn't take into consideration for the sophomore jinx , we did not address our depth for hitting ... Forget the injuries for now , the twins have professionals to fill the gaps and win games but something could be holding them back and that just might be not letting the players play the way they are capable of and inserting their plan into the players that just isn't working ... Name of the game is to win games and if we aren't winning games it all comes down to the coaching , the coaching isn't getting it done with the professional players we have and someone needs to be held accountable !!!! What the FO did over the off season was not a recipe for playoff success ...

This team is fun, right?!?!?!?!
Blyleven2011 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This team has no harmony ... This team has no discipline ... This team lost its playoff hope back in the off season when they reduced payroll , let the starting pitching go from a strength to maybe average rotation ... This team like most teams have players who just play for the money ( just a job ) where most of us would play for free because we have a love for the game ... This team needs consistency and of the good kind , they are only as good as their leaders which continue making head scratching decisions ... Acala the most recent .. -
Orioles 4, Twins 2: Sweeping Away the Misery
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In the old days you signed a player and hoped if he was good , that you would get 10 or mores years out of the player , today I don't think they value any longevity and careers are shorter as players are being coached to play another style of baseball , Man did Baltimore out play us with hard contact and discipline ...- 54 replies

It's pathetic pitiful piss poor baseball ... I for one think the preparation in spring training is not advantageous for success ... Are the players careers in jeopardy because of our major league philosophy of all or nothing , I would say yes , I am a player and a fan of yesteryear , results matters , results get you voted to the Allstar games , results win awards , results might win you a hall of fame selection ... don't any of today's players have the desire for these accolades ... Results of batting average , rbis , stealing bases , scoring runs and OPS earn respect from other teams players and fans , with the current coaching staff coaching our players , they just seem to be going through the motions and the motions are unwatchable baseball games ... It's time for the players to take back the way the game is supposed to be played and win some ball games , every small details matters .... In the last series against Baltimore , Baltimore batters swung at good pitches and lay off the bad pitches .... the the twins batters continue to swIng at bad pitches and let the good pitches go by .... Discipline ....

What are the Twins Expecting from Trevor Larnach?
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's sad to see someone demoted , but it was time wallner was sent to st Paul and get straightened out ... He was beginning to become a head case with no confidence , umpires against him , pitchers knowing his weaknesses and him not adjusting ... Larnach , last chance for him to wear a twins uniform , it's definitely a prove it week , month or year ... Small sample size during his rehab , I was out of town in Texas during spring training so I'm not sure how he was doing before the injury , would be nice to see some production from him , if not I see no reason to think he will Remain a twin ... -
I agree a change in the dugout needs to be addressed , someone needs to be held accountable for the lack of preparations in spring training , hitting approach , fundamentals , throwing to the wrong base or just missing cutoff man ( Buxton of all people did this last night , unacceptable for a veteran ) and just sloppy baseball ... This year we are expected to win the division and the pressure seems to much for players , coaches and manager .... Someone needs to be accountable but the owners don't listen to you or I , or so it appears even care that we are off to a bad start , if I was the owner and because we were considered contenders before spring training , I would be embarrassed and demand that someone take accountability , even with the injuries we still have a roster that should be capable of winning some series or at least watchable baseball ( are we turning out to be the white sox)....
