    I totally agree that this Twins team is totally unpredictable. Yesterday's win was welcome but definitely had some flaws and question marks in it. Rocco continues to misuse this so-called pitching staff. All year long over- using the bullpen. IMO Gray shouldn't have been pulled after 5 innings and 79 pitches. He was pitching well. The starters should be able to go 6 or 7 innings by now. This just wears down the bullpen. Using Duran in that game was a waste. A pitcher doesn't have to go in to pitch just because he had been warming up earlier. Pitchers have been getting warmed up and then not pitch for decades. It shouldn't kill them. Duffey unfortunately turned a romp into a closer than should be game. We should be used to that. The umpire getting hit by that batted ball surely helped. It would have tied the game at that point. On the other hand, Padres still had two chances to get him in and they didn't. Glad we won 7-4. Just keep in mind that we are 1-3 on this road trip. Even a win today would be nice but still be a bad road trip. We need a win today then come home to beat up on the tigers for three games.

    Yes Seattle gave up 4 prospects including a couple of high prospects. But they haven't been in the playoffs since 2000 or 2001. I don't think it's an overpay for the moment. You can play your prospects if they are so great or use them in trades. Prospects are an asset. At least the few that may be able to make the majors. But what good does it do to hoard prospects when the major league team is floundering and in obvious need of help. This team has been so flawed from the start but the FO so far has only been good at signing washed up pitchers no one else wants. Yes I agree we should be thinking 2023 and beyond. But first there is no guarantee as of today that the team in 2023 will be any better than this year's team. So what's wrong with adding a little major league pitching now and getting someone good enough to help with that supposedly open window? My opinion is if Falvey and Company is unable or unwilling to make some noticeable improvement on this team they should not be here. That's there job. I'm expecting some kind of help coming via trade. Some significant meaningful help. Can Sano pitch? He's not much good at anything else.

    Very sad performance by Ryan. But he's been the teams best starter. What's frustrating is we were counting on him to be a stopper. At least in this case. Hopefully Gray can do well on Saturday but the ship is rapidly sinking. I agree with the contributed questioning Rocco's handling of pitching staff. Many times he takes the pitcher out way too early then other times he leaves him in way too long. He should have gotten Ryan out of there much earlier. It probably wouldn't have made any difference in the final score. But maybe by letting him get hammered and embarrassed you hurt his confidence. I've been saying since April. This team is not good enough to be a serious contender and Rocco will wind up managing his way out of playoff consideration. Front Office, where are you???

    I believe this bullpen is accountable for 20 losses. They have given up a league leading 58 homeruns ouch! Twins also need a starter or two, or at least find someone that can pitch to the 6th or 7 the inning on occasion. Or a manager that should have stretched out the starters long ago. Most of these pitching problems were not adequately addressed this off season. Top 4 guys in batting order yesterday went 0-16. They are starting to look like last year's crummy team.

    I hope they don't trade either one of them. I like them both and they have a huge upside. But keep in mind if people are looking for trade help you need to be prepared to give up something good to get something good. Hoarding all your prospects is not the answer either. The Twins, like most teams tend to over hyped their prospects. Remember most will never make it. If we could just draft and develop our own pitchers much better than we have in the past we would be much better off.

    I think the whole thing is a crap shoot. Any of the three teams could win it. All are decent teams with lots of flaws and the ability to choke away games. After a very good start Twins have been below 500 for the past 50-55 games. Their ship is sinking but Sox and Cleveland can't seem to take control either. The trade deadline could prove the difference the rest of the way

    Another sloppy Twins game. I didn't see in your article that after Garlick was gifted on a poor defensive play by Brewers to get him to second did you mention his base running good. He got doubled off second on a good outfield catch. He had a runner in front of him who rightfully wasn't running waiting to see if the catch was made. Garlick, like usual, played it poorly and took us out of a potential good inning. It doesn't help when your own pitching staff continues to demonstrate how poor it is. How has Duran done the past several games? He sure didn't pitch a clean inning yesterday and has struggled the past few outings. Yes even the good ones run into slumps. Wednesday 4 innings Archer is pitching. Look for bullpen overuse again and Twins struggling to score against a very good Brewer pitcher today. Twins may be in first place but they sure aren't a first place team. Way too many holes. They are well below 500 the past 55 games.

    Correa is a member of the Twins. He does not have a no trade contract Anyone in the team can be traded. I don't think they will trade him because I don't think they will find a team trading partner. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't listen to any offers. Correa has been a good player but looks like he took could be a rental for the Twins. I would expect that when the Twins don't trade him and he leaves the same fans will start complaining because they let him go for nothing. I'm for keeping him but not at all costs. I still can't figure out why they signed him without making their pitching staff a major league one.

    Obviously no way that is happening. The main reason we got Correa was because his agent, Scott Boras, contacted the Twins. Not the other way around. But the Twins DID elect to sign Correa. As it is currently turning out I'm not sure it was for the best. After all if the FO refuses to invest in major league pitching what good does Correa do? Yes the team is 3 games in first place. Without the regular implosion of the bullpen, and with a superstar at short Twins should be 8-10 games in front. Soto is likely going to a big market team. My guess the Dodgers or Cardinals. It's also possible the Yankees could sweep in but the asking price is very high.

    Enough said about Sano. He is probably playing his last couple of months with the Twins. It's time to move on from Sano. He enters his return hitting .093 with a ton of strikeouts. He was a liability this spring when he did play. Oh that's right the weather was rotten and cold. But it was only cold for him I guess. As he starts taking at bats away from some proven younger players, I wonder how happy people will be when he strikes out at a career rate around 35%. But people always remember a grand slam against Cleveland or a ball that went 500 feet. He may win us a game or two. But it's also safe to say he may lose us a few as well with his inability to advance runners. He hits a homerun abour once per every 18 at bats in his career but strikes out about once in every three times. Strikeouts are part of the game. But when all is said and done a batter striking out produces close to nothing.

    Catching definitely needs an upgrade. People act as if Jeffers is a superstar. My god he's hitting .214 with 7 home runs and 25 RBI. He's struck out 58 times which translates to about 31% of time. Plus he's poor defensively. He's worth keeping but I sure think at some point we could find someone better. Our catching over all offensively and defensively is well below average. Much like our pitching staff. Pitching must be added if Twins have any chance

    If the Twins pick up his 14 million option for next year then the FO people should be fired. I'm not a Sano hater but his time here has run its course. Yes as sime people always seem to mention he can get hit and carry a team for a short period of time. But his other streaks of striking out 2 or 3 times a game last much longer. Often those strikeouts are with runners on base and he normally doesn't deliver consistently. It's all or nothing for Sano. We all knew he was coming back. I hope he is helpful. I won't like the days when he takes at bats away from better players. Does anyone think it would be great for Aareaz, Miranda, kirilloff to lose at bats to Sano? He's coming back. He played 17 games and he is hitting .093. I sincerely hopes he helps but I am more worried that his performance and presence may hurt.

    Interesting possibilty. Well researched! On one hand he's definitely better than most of the members of our current bullpen. On the other hand he represents the philosophy of the current Twins FO. He's been an often injured pitcher with an aging arm and cones cheap. Twins seem to go for cheap when it comes to pitching. Could that be why our bullpen is one of the statistically poorest in all of baseball? They may as well give up a lower level prospect or two and give him a chance. But I would like to see them go after someone more accomplished.

    It's hard to evaluate the Twins these past two games against the Tigers. Twins did a great job of taking advantage of a very poor and depleted team. Hopefully we can win a few out of the next 5 against Brewers and Padres. Both very good teams. Cleveland has a couple of tough series coming up as well. In the meantime White Sox next 19 games are against Rockies, A's, Royals, Tigers. A little bit of an opening coming up for the White Sox. It's time for them to make their move if they can. Twins just need to take care of themselves. We are below .500 the past 50 games. Go Twins!

    Sano is due back. Unless he is traded he will be taking someone spot. My guess Garlick is sent down. I believe he has an option left. His performance is greatly exaggerated and over hyped. After all Sano can pinch hit and strike out too. Sano needs a new fresh start. Twins need a new fresh start without him. The worst thing would be for Sano coming back and taking playing time away from miranda, Arraez, or kirilloff. Please Twins move on from Sano.

    Wow. Lots of great comments that cover just about everything. I do not think Twins will trade him. They are in a tough spot but they put themselves there in part. Assuming Correa walks after the season I would imagine you same people who said no to even think about trading him will roast the Twins for not trading him and at least get something. I think Correa has been a good but not great addition. He certainly hasn't played up to his previous superstar status and definitely hasn't played up to being paid the highest infielder nor the more than 40% of twins payroll. I fault the FO for not bolstering especially the pitching staff after spending all that money in Correa. Why have such a player if you surround him with a minor league pitching staff? Not quite sure what the Twins are for this team. There is no guarantee this team even makes the playoffs. I hope they do but this team has a lot of holes in it.

    I've been confused about the Twins all year. You never know what team is going to show up. Twins are 3-7 in last 10 games giving up 68 runs. What was very disheartening was the beat down from White Sox. Twins had no energy. They looked awful. We need to win both the games this weekend in Detroit. Chicago has the easiest schedule over the last 4-5 weeks. Twins are like 23-29 in their last 52 games. This is more indicative of their play. Lately the pitching has been terrible. Many stretches the offense goes missing in action. They are only an average fielding team. Their baserunning ranks amongst the worst in all of baseball. Twins also don't steal bases and can't throw out would be base stealers. Twins bullpen has given up 55 homeruns. Way too many. The ERA us around 5.15 good for 25th out of the 30 teams. They show stretches where they play good baseball and other stretches where they are just awful. This team has so many holes and flaws. Guess we should feel lucky we are in such a terrible division. We are in first place but not a first place calibre team!

    I'm sorry but I'm not sold on anyone on that list. Too many what ifs, injuries and projections. Remember a prospect is just that a prospect until he proves himself professionally. I. Surprised at times that college pitchers don't make it to the big leagues a lot quicker. Many play 3-4 years of college ball. Shouldn't they be more prepared and ready to help out the major league team after just a year or two in the minors? But I agree with one of the others on here. Twins don't do much if a good job of developing their own quality pitching. This organization for years has been known as a good hitting/ poor pitching organization for a long time. Not much changes does it.

    I'm sure I'm in the minority but I would like to see the Twins move on from Correa. He has been good but definitely not great. He's supposed to be a superstar. He definitely has not performed that way for a guy making $35 million or about 40% of the payroll. He is probably going to walk after the season so maybe trade him for a good major league player and prospects if you can find someone with something to offer. The pitching staff has been a mess most of the year. The bullpen mostly disgraceful. The starters only going 4-5 innings is destroying an overworked bullpen. I'm not sure at this juncture what we have benefited by having Correa on the team. What was/ is the FO strategy in having the highest paid infielder in baseball if you have basically a minor league pitching staff?

    I would say the Twins have at least two white elephants in the room. Yes. Sano is one. I suggest the other is Carlos Correa. He very likely isn't coming back. If you can find a trade partner to take on his huge salary perhaps he could be used to either obtain major league pitching help or get prospects to replenish the system should you trade prospects for pitching. By all indications he's going to leave anyway. Plus IMO Twins surely have not gotten a 35 million dollar performance. Far from it.

    I would say that if you are in a position to get in to the playoffs you need to make every reasonable attempt to get there. Obviously there is no guarantee the team makes the playoffs this year even via a trade. But don't you owe it to the fans and the players to try? Everyone rants and raves about 2023 and beyond. Is that a guarantee? Of course not. That will depend on part what happens this trade deadline and next off season. Yes this team has plenty of holes. But do you just give up? Do you shrug your shoulders and say let's leave it and wait? They are at a mini crossroads. I don't think they were planning on contending at this point in the season. And what about Correa? He most certainly doesn't appear to be part of the Twins future. It's time to trade him for a prospect (s) if you can find any takers.

    Just a great article!! Congrats on admitting mistakes when it comes to analyzing prospects and potential prospects. Too many expert writers on here think their opinion is gospel. As we all know MOST prospects never make a significant impact. Any don't make any impact at all. Teams sign college and high school players to millions in signing bonuses without them even playing one professional game. I know that's the rules. That's how it's done. It's all based on over hyped and hope. It also tells me that people who say don't trade prospects may need to rethink their position. The Twins have a chance to win something this year. They need improvements especially in pitching. Must be prepared to trade some prospects. That's part of what they are there for. If the top prospects we have were so good they would be producing on the big club. Yes no one wants to see a prospect goand see him become a superstar with some other team. But for everyone of those there is probably at least a couple of dozen who they keep and will never make it. If the FO can't make trading decisions involving potential prospects, they probably shouldn't be in the front office.

    Great article. Very well researched and thought out. Twins claiming they were very happy with the draft? Really what do you expect them to say? Like always only time will tell. It's just as likely none of these players will ever play major league baseball. Let's hope they all pan out. Good job guys on the article.

    This pitching staff and the managers handling of it has been a train wreck waiting to happen. Yes the pitching pipeline has produced a couple of pitchers. Just because they are on the big league club doesn't mean they are good or that the pipeline is producing. Twins were embarrassed by the Sox on our home field. Twins showed no life or enthusiasm at all. We are now 3-7 in past 10 games. In those 10 games we have given up 68 runs. Yet only because we play in a very weak division are we in first place. Does anyone really think this is a playoff contending team as currently constructed? It needs some reworking if they are serious about contending this year. It's frustrating because the opportunity is there to take the division and get to playoffs. Will the Front Office take charge? Or will they sit on their hands and let the season slip away?

    The Twins are in first place also because they play in a poor division where no one seems to want to take charge, including the Twins. I don't see center field as an area of strength. Seven years of a part time, always injured Buxton shows that. He's hitting .217 and is so strikeout prone. He looks lost at the plate most of the time. Yes he's great defensively but not so at the plate. His .245 seven year career average and part time status can attest to that. Sano indeed is the elephant in the room!! He's coming back soon. Someone will be sent out to make room for him on the roster. My guess, Garlick or Cellistino as they have options left. Problem with Sano is who is he going to take at bats from? Miranda, Kirilloff, Arraez? Hope not. Those players have earned their right to stay and play regularly. Baldelli loves him so you know Sano will play. If they are not bringing him back next year they need to trade him for whatever they can get. The Yankees batboy perhaps? Or bite the bullet and release him. Sanos run in Minnesota should be over.
