    I'll be glad to see the shift go. But I'm sure we will see some legal variation of it. The shift this year gives the appearance of defenses used in slow pitch softball. The baseball field has become an on field video game. Disgraceful!! As for players taking advantage of hitting into the open shift at will, come on get serious. Pitchers are routinely throwing near and over 100 mph. Making it near impossible to "place" hits and bunts wherever they want. It's just too bad that after decades of thriving baseball attendance and ratings that MLB has had to make major rule changes that although well intended, are slowly destroying the game.

    Yes. Very frustrating season for all the reasons mentioned in the well written article. Add to it the teams pit hing philosophy of short starts and not having an adequate bullpen to back them up. I believe the bullpen has lost over two dozen games. Carlos Correa doing very little offensively until the last month of the season. Terrible base running, terrible in game managing by Baldelli. Yes the injuries have been way too high. But to be honest many of those injured players were either not projected to help much or contribute to the major league club. The injuries piled up at the end making for a convenient excuse to a dissappointing season. When the team was relatively healthy, playing with a normal lineup, they blew many winnable games. Remember those 5 disastorus losses to Cleveland earlier this year? Yes it's been frustrating because the division was very winnable. It's frustrating to see it slip away. It's also frustrating to see the health players perform so poorly with very little energy.

    Great game by Ryan. He did a nice job like he has all season pitching great against the poorest teams while struggling mightily against the top teams. But that's ok. At least we have a starting pitcher that can do that.

    Must be Baldellis agent. How about a little balanced article? You paint him out to be near perfect. I would much rather have Garden hire or Monitor as opposed to Baldelli. For people to leave Baldelli blameless and blame everything on injuries are clueless. Yes although I am not a Baldelli fan I do expect him back next year. If the FO doesn't quit signing bargain basement pitching, they may all be looking after next year. You and many people said 2022 they weren't going to compete and the real competitive season will be starting in 2023. If 2023 is supposed to be the start of a more annually competitive team, they have a LOT of work ahead of them

    It is true the Twins had plenty of injuries. Some people list them and make it appear they were all all stars. Most of the players on that elongated injury list were not expected to be major contributers. To leave the FO and manager blameless due to the injuries is disingenuous. Since June the twins have been playing poor uninspired baseball. The FO made some trades which thus far have not planned out. The FO created the pitching mess by signing has beens on the cheap. If you are going to go with short starts like 5 innings or less as the pitching philosophy you better have a very solid bullpen. The team is listless and shows no sense of urgency in it's approach. We have a manager that has poor in game management skills and questionable pitching management. The team has too many players that don't hustle. We don't advance runners and have very poor base running. But the plan is the plan and Rocco and coaches stick with it no matter what. It's what got us to this point. It's what is going to finish us off.

    You must be their agent. Glowing reports on the FO. I too expect them to be back but I would sure expect to see a better plan, a new computer, a manager that is at least flexible, and some direction for the team. This team appeared rudderless for the last three months. If 2023 was always the year to be a great contender they have a long way to go.

    It's done. Yes we still have plenty of games left with Cleveland and Chicago. But you have to be able to win those games. This team has shown very little inclination of putting it all together. There has been no fight in this team for several weeks. Why would we expect it to change now?

    A September push? They are 2-7 in their past 9 games. Some push. I will admit the injuries have been long but only a few of the players were expected to be producers. Buxton? He's hurt basically every year so you can't count on him anyway. I don't think the players play for Rocco. They say they like him. Who wouldn't when they aren't held accountable for poor play. Too many errors, mental errors, terrible base running, too many manager mistakes, too little clutch hitting and terrible pitching. The one thing is that when the season is done and we don't make the playoffs, they will blame it all on injuries. Then the whole process will start all over again. Bargain basement pitching. Twins have the most pitched games in baseball where the starting pitching doesn't go 5 innings. Their record during that time is 19-41.

    Twins won. Not a great win. It was pretty sloppy like most of their games this year. Poor base running again. After celestino forgot how many outs there were after not advancing to third on a passed ball, he should have been benched. We have guys who play poor baseball and don't hustle. Uninspiring and no hustle baseball falls directly on the manager. Good job Correa. Although it took over 130 games, you finally got a clutch hit. Cleveland lined up their starting pitching this weekend to have their 3 best starters face us. The Twins not so much so. We have Bundy, Archer and TBD. Not exactly the starters that terrify other teams. 8 of next 11 games against Cleveland. Could be interesting. Maybe not.

    Great comments all. I believe the organization has failed miserably in the pitching development and usage. I'm not going to repeat all the great things the previous posters have posted. As I see this team in a continued down spiral over the past three months it's a sign that what they are doing isn't working yet they keep doing it. They should all be shown the door.

    Pagan to me is the number one issue. The geniuses that say he has great stuff then send him out and watch him blow so many games. Don't these people see the results? He's terrible. He's been terrible for 3 years. It's a joke. Buxton? He's not a real disappointment. This is the 8th year now of injuries. We should be used to that by now. What's more frustrating is people expecting him to be something he isn't. That is a full time superstar player. And then act surprised when he is hurt again. We only have 7 more seasons of this. Sano? Time to let him go. Kirilloff is frustrating because he has raw talent but is always injured. I hope his career isn't over. Falvey trading for pitchers with injuries then acts surprised when they get injured. Lots of twins candidates this year. Good article! Well written!

    Typical Twins game. The Yankees didn't play that well and the twins, like normal, couldn't take advantage. Pagan should have been released months ago. He's been very bad for three seasons now. This year with the Twins he's been a joke. But he and the coaches say he has good stuff. Do any of these people watch the game? If some of these players come back soon Pagan should be the first to go.

    Nice twins win. Huge to avoid a sweep there. Now the Yankees. They have manhandled us for years. I'm hoping we can at least gain a split. It will probably be a huge bullpen day with 4 inning Archer on the mound. A team could " win" the central with a 500 record or less. May as well be the Twins.

    What an embarrassing display on national TV. It was expectedly bad enough facing Cease but letting the game become a circus by putting in and leaving Gordon in to let the "game" get out of hand was inexcusable. We had the guy we got from Boston hasn't pitched for 6 days. He couldn't pitch in a mop up role for one inning? There was plenty of options for one in ing. Gordon should not have been one of them. The team and organization was embarrassed by Baldelli decisions. Showing that you gave up early in the game, Twins once again displayed no life or heart on national TV. I fully didn't expect the team to win this game anyway but their ineptitude and lack of any fire is beyond baffling .

    One of the things that bothers me lately with MLB in general is how many players don't hustle when running the bases. You only get to bat three or four times a game. If you can't hustle from the batters box and go all out you shouldn't be playing. Fun game last night. Good comeback but too many mistakes in the field and the managers chair. Correa has had one great series this year . That was against the Giants. He decided not to show up against the Red Sox. You don't get much effort and production for 35 million anymore I guess

    Correa back? He was great against the Giants for 3 games. Right back into the tank against the Red Sox having a very poor series. That was topped off by the game Wednesday in which he meekly hit into a game ending double play with the tying and winning run on base. Continuing his abysmal lack of production with runners in scoring position and two outs. Buxton? He's been a part time player for eight years now. We should be used to all the time off because of all the injuries. I don't see either of our star players providing anything more than they have. In any case I think September could be a fun month to see how the season shakes out.

    Excellent article. Prospects are just that until if and when they prove otherwise. Most never pan out.

    I'm sure Rocco will be back. I don't really care for him as a manager. But the FO hired him to produce some of the most bizarre and boring baseball I've seen the past two years. His inability to do in game managing and adjustments is ultra frustrating. His commitment to the plan is intoxicating. The plan is more important than the game itself to him. His lineups, pitching decisions, strategy, are strange at best. IMO he has very little feel for the game. And I suggest the players probably do like him. There is very little accountability for the players performance. Rocco will be back. I just hope at sometime he combined the spreadsheet philosophy with some old school on field managing style.

    This article is absolutely ridiculous. It's nice to be positive and enthusiastic but not at the expense of common sense. First I do applaud the FO for these aquisitions. Even If they don't make the playoffs it should help in the coming couple of years. To me they waited way too long. They were the ones that assembled the pitching staff in the first place. They created their own mess that the had to patch up. The pen has lost 24 games that we can't get back. If it was only half that we would be in great shape. Their insistence on keeping Pagan because he and they say his stuff is great is very discouraging. Have any of those people really checked his results? He should have been DFA a long time ago. With the overwhelming positive nature of this article one can assume the writer works for the Twins lol ( tongue in cheek)

    To me Bundy is definitely the better of the two. Who knows, maybe they will both be back. Maybe they will both be gone. To me Pagan is the prime example of analytics and projections gone mad. Does whiff rates, missed bats, spin rates really matter if you can't get anyone out. Duffey and Smith were released due to ineffectiveness but we're both better than Pagan. Whatever happened to the "eye test" evaluation of players. Anyone that watches must realize he is terrible. He has been very directly involved in 13 of the bullpen losses. But Pagan and Baldelli say he's pitching fine. What games have they been watching? Pagan should have been released a long time ago. Baldelli should go right with him.

    Nice to sneak a win from the jaws of defeat! Not a very well played game though. But nice pitching from the Twins and Giants didn't seem very interested in the game

    If, in part, you are talking about using his salary sump to spend elsewhere u kind of understand. But we have a $35 million shortstop that is way underperforming. I say let's hope he leaves and use his money to keep Utshela and also find more pitching

    Nice to see an ala around very good win. Nice to see everything click in all facets of the game. Now the key is to build on that and build a little win streak. Great job Twins. Keep it up.
