Just another example of analytics run amok. Lopez has not pitched well for most of the season. Anyone can SEE that. Good pitchers produce "good numbers" real or analytic. The only thing that I see is it reinforcing Baldelli theory of " we are interested in the process not the results" philosophy he has frequently mentioned. I totally expect Lopez to pitch a great game against the lowly Rockies. Then people will be singing his praises again. After all we SHOULD beat the lowly Rockies. Right?
-
Reading an analytical spreadsheet doesn't make you a good major league baseball manager. Being able to manage a game is vital. Rocco doesn't possess the skills apparently to do that. Pulling Varland after only 63 pitches and five innings because he may have to face batters a third time is just plain silly. If he was getting hit, even a little, it would be easy to understand. But he had the Rockies eating out of the palm of his hand. Wednesday day game is a MUST win. Lopez needs to come through. He has not pitched well most of the se9ason. He SHOULD be able to beat the cellar dwellers. This Rockies team is every bit as bad as the White Sox team.

Blah blah game against a very blah blah team. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they won. It's great they beat a team they should beat. Lewis is awesome. Like a previous poster said if only he can play a full season like that. I couldn't help but people talking the same thing about Byron Buxton. Yes only played one full season in 2017. I sure hope Lewis injuries are over. He seems to give the team energy. Go Twins.

Yes and if the 4 blind mice otherwise known as the umpires hadn't missed the obvious foul ball off the bat of Buxton, twins would only had 2 runs and not 3. Glad they won but not overly impressed. But with the "easy" home schedule this week we should win most if not all of them. But I say should because of the Jeckyl and Hyde nature of this team. My guess is by Father's Day we may have them penciled in for the World Series again.

It is ok to blame Baldelli to some degree. He's the one that sees the tone. He makes the lineup. This team is lifeless most of the time. They are 8 games below 500 against winning teams. Now with a relatively healthy lineup they can't blame injuries for losing. They've turned to blaming the umpires. Yes they should win against the rockies, a's at home this week. I'm just not impressed with Baldelli as a manager and this FO .

Pretty pathetic performance. We have now gone scoreless in 22 straight innings. We have a lifeless team with only minimal leadership by the veterans. We still have a manager that is obsessed with analytics and shows very little ability to manage a team and a game. My God he still sends out Margot to pinch hit. Sometimes in very key situations. Does his analytic chart tell him that Margot is 0 for 17 pin h hitting this year? Yet he keeps sending him out there to pinch hit for lefties. He says Kiriloff can't hit lefties. We'll right now he can't hit right handers either. He's only had 8 at bats against lefties so hiw do you judge him or Larnach if they are pinch hit by someone that is 0 for 17? They should get squared around this week as we face the lowly Rockues and As at home. Then like the 12 game winning streak we had they will tell us how good they are. IMO they are about as good as the 14-18 record they own since the 12 game winning streak.

I would probably go with Ryan. With the constant platooning of many twins players making them essentially part timers it's hard to build up stats. Correa has been good but certainly not great, more pedestrian. Jeffers is very streaky and only plays half the games. Hardly worthy of an all star selection much less start. He would need to get very hot plus Rocco would have to let him play more. Not likely to happen.

Yes the home plate umpiring is bad. But it's bad all over not just the Twins. What's worse is constantly whining about it Ala Kris Atterberry on the radio broadcasts. His constant blaming the Twins woes on the umpiring is so childish and typical of the losers lament when not finding actual reasons for poor play. He conveniently forgets or ignores the times when Twins pitchers get bad calls in their benefit. It's OK to mention it once in a while but not nearly every inning. Go Twins.

Yankees 8, Twins 5: Walks Will Haunt, Twins Swept
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's why amongst many other reasons I don't like Rocco. Resting Lewis after 2 days! 2 days in which he hit home runs. I'm sure the previous 58 days he didn't face major league pitching must have worn him out. It was a terrible starting lineup. Plus add in another terrible performance by the 18 million per year Lopez and you have bad results. Plus we keep sending up that great pinch hitter Margo who the Yankee broadcasters happily mention he is 0 for 16 in theses last pinch hitting stints. Rocco is too stubborn to incorporate any actual baseball managing with his analytical show. One of the absolute worst managers the Twins have ever had.- 48 replies

Where the Twins stand after (about) 60 games
Whitey333 replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think k the Twins are an above average team not a great or good team. They must improve against teams above 500. The season isn't young anymore. I think we will be competitive all year buy it's also possible they won't even make the playoffs.- 42 replies

Yes the "Buxton era" is a myth and is over. It's unfortunate but it's true. He's only been a part time player for nearly all of his career. The limited flashes of greatness are diminished. Ive never been a Buxton fan and I'm still not. I truly feel sorry for him due to the injuries. We never knew if his potential was true or over hyped. The fact that he was able to finagle a 100 million dollar contract from the Twins is pure genius on his part. Unfortunately all he is and has been doing is hurting the development of someone who could perhaps play regularly. Yes he will still have a game where he may hit two Homer's and then all they will keep telling us how great he is. Then the nex 2 for 20 with 10 strikeouts will come up. Somehow it's time to move on from Byron Buxton.
-
Yes a poorly umpires game especially at home plate. But that didn't cause the loss. The Twins just have a meltdown when they have to play the Yankees. Thank goodness Thursday is the last day we play them during the regular season. What was just as annoying as the Twins loss was listening to Kris Atterberry lament the lack of umpiring skills of the home plate umpire. It was worthwhile mentioning the poor umpiring but this was his theme ALL game long. It was obnoxious. Just like he normally is.

Yes the ump missed some balls and strikes.. the worst on on the Judge walk that didn't cost us anything. If we are being totally honest you will note the Twins pitchers got several pitches called strikes that were outside. But it is very frustrating I agree. It did not cost us the game.

I know it is hard to publish new and interesting articles each and every day but this is ridiculous. A well written article but come on. This is all we have to chat about? One thing I will say is how much I miss Provus on the radio. Since I'm one of the thousands that is unable to watch the Twins I have to put up with Atterberry and his continually mundane stories not related to tge game at hand. He has a great voice, is extremely informative but never shuts up. His color commentators, Perkins, Molitor, and Gladden are great and seem to pull him through. I miss provus on the radio broadcasts.

Probably the right decision but I would have preferred a dfa of Margot. But I knew they weren't going to do that. IMO this shows in part some of the pitfalls of playing prospects, ie young players, like him and Miranda and kiriloff and larkin and others only part time. By being so rigid on the left right platoon and giving the quick hook to players because of some analytic controlled mandate by Rocco is hurting the players development. How can you look in the mirror and say you are sending a player down to get more everyday at bats then they sit almost half the time while on the big club? I think the Twins have done a great disservice to their prospects and not getting near enough production out of their veterans. I don't think this is a long term solution for utilizing your prospect base.

My vote would be to dump Margot. But perhaps the geniuses in the FO will make it simple and "find" a player to put on the I jury list. As a side note: I can't stand this platoon system especially with the younger players and prospects. How are they going to develop when they wind up being part time players? How do you judge Miranda, Kiriloff. Larnach, Julienne, etc al when they play so sporadically? I think the Twins are hurting the development of their younger talent. A good bench is fine but this strict adherence to platooning is ridiculous. Most of your best teams play a regular lineup day in day out barring injuries. Of course it's impossible to KNOW if the Twins would be better or not since they only play the way they do. Anyway Go Twins.

Willi Castro May Be Twins Latest, Greatest Come Up
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This organization is better than player evaluations?? Better than what? He's been exceptional?? He's been decent yes. But let's not make him out to be a hall of fame or savior of the franchise. Another typical over hypedbstory about an average part time player on a average team- 19 replies

I agree. We should not trade for him. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins made the move. Why? Well because he is a pitcher with injury issues. The Twins seem to love to trade for these types of players then whine when they go down to injury. Plus they seem to enjoy getting hosed big time when trading prospects for questionable and injured talent. I'm sure teams like the Reds and Orioles appreciate us lol. No trade for this guy please.

As a long time fan I absolutely hate Roccos platoon system. It's too rigid. Maybe that's because he doesn't know how to actually manage a baseball game.

Still can't watch the Twins - I can't let this go.
Whitey333 replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We switched to Fubo for a one week trial. The Twins were on everyday. That was great. But Fubo doesn't carry a lot of the channels we watch like all the Turner channels. So we kept Hulu. We switched several times to be able to watch h the Twins, Wild, etc. But not anymore. I'm done with that. The Twins have been promising us for nearly 5 years they will fix it. We still can't watch the Twins. They obviously don't care about their fans. They have blown it. -

Royals 6, Twins 1: Royals Rock Ober, Again
